7. Install the wheel nuts with their tapered ends facing inward, then tighten by handuntil the wheel is no longer loose. 8. Lower the vehicle slowly until the tire touches the ground, by rotating the wheel nut wrench counterclockwise.
9. Tighten the nuts in the order shown in the illustration until each
nut has been tight-
ened to the torque listed here. 65 to 80 ft-lb (88 to 108 N•m)
10. Lower the jack all the way and remove it.
11. Check the tire inflation pressure. The rec-
ommended tire pressure for your vehicleis listed on the tire
and loading informa-
tion placard attached to the driver’s door sill as shown in the illustration. Refer to“Tire inflation pressures” on page 9-15.
CAUTION Never apply oil to either the wheel bolts or the nuts or they will tighten too much.

CAUTION Never use your foot or a pipe extension to apply added force to the wheel nut wrench when tightening the wh
eel nuts. If you do so,
you can over-tighten the wheel nuts and damage the wheel, wheel nuts and hub bolts.

to drive with an under-inflated tire, keep your speed down and av
oid sudden steering
or braking, if possible. Inflate the tire to thecorrect pressure as soon as possible. Refer to “Tire inflation pressures” on page 9-15. After changing the tire
and driving the vehi-
cle about 620 miles (1,000 km), retighten the wheel nuts to make sure that they have notcome loose.

Unlatch the prop from the engine hood and put it back in its retainer. Slowly lower the engi

8 inches (20 cm), then let it drop from its own weight.

need to add oil betwee
n the recommended oil
change intervals. Before starting the engine,check the engine oil level. Refill if necessary. To check the oil level, remove the dipstick, wipe it off, and gently
reinsert it all the way.

ck straight out and
check the oil level by checking the upper sur- face of the dipstick. Th
e oil level must not go
above the line on the dipstick. If the level does not reach the line which shows the minimum amo
unt of oil required,
remove the oil filler cap on the engine valve cover, and fill to within the “Good” range.

CAUTION Be careful not to trap your hands or fingers when closing the engine hood. Make sure the engine hood is firmly closed before driving.If you drive without the engine hood com- pletely closed, it c
ould open up while driv-
ing.

 If this does not clos

erly, drop it again from a slightly higherposition.  Do not push down strongly on the engine hood. Depending on how strongly or whereyou push down, you could create a dent in the vehicle body.

Engine Oil is recommended for optimum fueleconomy and cold weather starting. If Mitsubishi Motors Genuine 0W-20 Syn- thetic Engine Oil is not available, 5W-20grade oils displaying th

can be used. However, Mitsubishi Motors Genuine 0W-20Synthetic Engine Oil s
hould be used at the
next oil change to maintain optimum fuel economy and cold weather starting. The oil filter should be replaced at the time or mileage specified in the “WARRANTY ANDMAINTENANCE MANUAL”. Only use high quality
replacement filters on
this vehicle. The manufacturer’s specifica-tions for Genuine Mitsubishi oil filters
require that the filter can withstand a pressure of 256 psi (1.8 MPa). A Genuine Mitsubishioil filter is the best replacement filter. Follow the installation instructions printed on the filter.

The engine coolant reservoir (A) lets youquickly see when you need to add coolant.When the engine is cold
, the level of the cool-
ant in the reservoir should be between the “F” (FULL) and “L” (LOW) marks. The radiatorusually stays full so there is no reason to remove the radiator cap (B) except when you check the coolant freeze point or replace theantifreeze coolant.

The radiator cap must be
sealed tight to pre-
vent losing coolant, which may result in engine damage. Only use a Genuine Mitsubishi Parts radiator
cap, or an approved
equivalent.
 Do not overfill the reservoir.  Your vehicle uses a special radiator cap that stays sealed and lets the coolant flow from the reservoir back to the radiatorwhen the engine cools down. If you need to change the cap, use the exact same kind.
 Check the coolant freeze point in the radi- ator with the proper gauge, and only whenit is safe. If you add antifreeze, the con- tents of the reservoi
r must be protected
against freezing. Keep the front of the radiator and con- denser clean.  If the engine coolan

is warmed-up, take
your vehicle to an au

The hood lock release mechanism and hood safety catch should be checked, cleaned, andoiled when needed fo
r easy movement and to
prevent rust and wear. Use Multipurpose Grease NLGI Grade 2 sparingly for all slidingparts of the hood latch and release lever. Work the grease into the hood lock mecha-
nism until all the mo
vable surfaces are cov-
ered.Also, put a light coat of the same grease on the safety catch wherev
er moving parts touch.

The ventilation slots in front of the wind- shield should be brushed clear after a heavysnowfall so that the operation of the heating and ventilation systems
will not be impaired.
To prevent freezing of the weatherstripping on the doors, engine hood, etc., they should be treated with
silicone grease.
