The main purpose of an EDR is to record, in certain crash or near crash-like situations, such as an airbag deployment or hitting a road obstacle, data that will assist in under-standing how a vehicle’s systems performed. The EDR is designed to record data related to vehicle dynamics and safety systems for ashort period of time, typically 30 seconds or less. The EDR in this vehicle is designed to record such data as: How various systems in your vehicle were operating; Whether or not the driver and front pas- senger safety belts were buckled/fastened; How far (if at all) the driver was depress- ing the accelerator and/or brake pedal; and, How fast the vehicle was traveling.
These data can help provide a better under- standing of the circumstances in which crashes and injuries occur.
To read data recorded by an EDR, special equipment is required, and access to the vehi-cle or the EDR is needed. In addition to the vehicle manufacturer, other parties, such as law enforcement, that have the special equip-ment, can read the information if they have access to the vehicle or the EDR.

The driver’s seat position sensor is attachedto the seat rail and provides the airbag control unit with information on the seat’s fore-aftposition. The airbag control unit controls deployment of the driver’s front airbag in accordance with the information it receivesfrom this sensor. If there is a problem involving the driver’s seat position sensor, the SRS warning light in
the instrument panel will come on. Refer to “SRS warning light/display” on page 4-36.

WA R N I N G If the SRS warning light or warning dis- play comes on, have the vehicle inspected by an authorized Mitsubishi Motorsdealer as soon as possible. Please observe the following instructions to ensure that the driver’s seat position sensor can operate correctly.• Adjust the seat to the correct position,and sit well back against the seatback. Refer to “Front seats” on page 4-3.• Do not recline the seatback more thannecessary when driving.• Do not place metallic objects or luggageunder the front seat.
If the vehicle is involved in a severe impact, have the SRS sensors inspected byan authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer as soon as possible.

The power steering system operates while theengine is running. It helps reduce the effort needed to turn the steering wheel. The power steering system has mechanicalsteering capability in case the power assist islost. If the power assist is lost for some rea- son, you will still be able to steer your vehi- cle, but you will notice it takes much moreeffort to steer. If this happens, have your vehi- cle inspected at an authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer or a repair facility of yourchoice.

The brake system is overheating due to continuous brake control on long down- hill slope.
This can occur when In adverse weather conditions, such as rain, snow or sand storms, etc. Foreign objects, such as dirt, snow or ice, adhere to the surface of the sensor. A front vehicle or an oncoming vehicle is splashing water, snow or dirt. Driving on a nonbusy road with a few vehicles and obstacles in front.
If the display keeps showing the message, there is a possibility that the ACC has a mal- function. Contact your authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer. When the ACC system detects an abnormal- ity in the system, the ACC system will beturned off, a buzzer will sound and a message will be displayed in the multi-information display.If the message remains after the operation mode is put in OFF, and then turned back to
ON, contact your authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer.

After the ACC control has been canceled withthe ACC turned on, the ACC control can be resumed by pushing up and releasing the “RES +” switch. While the ACC system is in the stationary vehicle hold state, if it is possible to resume following the vehicle in front because it hasstarted moving, “ACC READY TO RESUME” will appear on the meter. To start
moving again, push up the “RES +” switch or depress the accelerator pedal.

When any of the following conditions are present, the ACC control cannot be resumed. • When your vehicle speed is more than 110 mph (180 km/h). • When your vehicle is driven at speeds between approximately 0 to 20 mph (0 to 30 km/h) and the ACC is not detecting avehicle in front. • When ASC is in the OFF position.• While ABS, ASC or TCL is activated. • When the selector lever is in positions other than “D” (DRIVE). • While the brake pedal is depressed. • While the parking brake is applied.• When the ACC system has judged that the performance for detecting a front vehicle isdegraded. • When an abnormality in the ACC system has been detected. • While the brake pedal is depressed, the vehicle will not start moving again even if the driver operates the switches.

The Forward Collision Mitigation system (FCM) is designed to help reduce the risk of acollision with a vehicle or a pedestrian straight ahead of your vehicle. The FCM uses a sensor (A) to determine the distance andrelative speed to a vehicle and a pedestrian in front. The FCM is not designed as an auto- matic driving system or as a collision avoid-ance system. When your vehicle is approaching a vehicle or a pedestrian straight-ahead in your pathand the FCM judges that there is the risk of a collision, the system will give audible and visual warnings.When the FCM judges that a collision with the vehicle or the pedestrian straight-ahead is imminent, the system will automaticallyapply moderate braking to warn you to apply the brakes immediately.
When the FCM judges that a collision with the vehicle or the pedestrian straight-ahead is highly unavoidable, the system will apply emergency braking to reduce the severity ofthe collision and, if possible, to avoid the col- lision. Stop lights are illuminated during automaticbraking.
CAUTION Changes or modifications not expressly approved by the party responsible for com- pliance could void the user’s authority to operate the equipment.

WA R N I N G Before using the FCM, read this entire section to fully understand the limitations of this system. Failure to follow instruc- tions could result in an accident. The FCM is designed to help avoid certain frontal collisions or reduce the crash speed in such collisions. It is not a substi-tute for your safe and careful driving. Under certain circumstances, the system may not operate or may not detect cor-rectly a vehicle or a pedestrian in front. When your vehicle is approaching a vehi- cle or a pedestrian too closely, take all nec-essary actions to avoid a collision, such as braking and steering, regardless of whether the FCM is activated or not.Never rely on the FCM to prevent a colli- sion. Never attempt to test the operation of the FCM. Doing so could cause an accident, resulting in serious injury or death.

The parking sensors are parking aid only. It is not a substitute for your visual confir- mation. The system is not designed to detect chil- dren, pedestrians, bicycles and pets. Thearea within which the system can detect is very limited, and ob
jects outside the
detection area, such as under the bumperor around either corner of the bumper, cannot be detected. The sensors of the sys- tem may not be able to detect certainobjects. Never rely solely on the parking sensors to clear the area in front and to the rear of your vehicle. Always check visually in front and to the rear of your vehicle forpersons, animals, obstructions or other vehicles. Failure to do so can result in damage toyour vehicle, serious injury or death.CAUTION The parking sensors may not operate prop- erly in a certain situation. The parking sensors may not properly detect certain objects including;• A thin object such as a wire net or rope.• An object that absorbs ultrasonic sound waves, such as snow.• An object with sharp angles.• An object with a smooth surface, such as glass.• A low height object such as a curb. If the bumper has experienced an impact, the sensor area may have damage and the park- ing sensors may not function properly.
