ESP®Crosswind Assist de tects sudden gust s of
side wind and helps the driver tokeep theve hi‐
cle in the lane:
RESP®Crosswind Assist is active at vehicle
speeds between 50 mph (80 km/h) and 12
5mp h (200 km/h) when driving stra ight
ahead or cornering slightly.
RThe vehicle is stabilized bymeans of individ‐
ual brake application on one side.
Fu nction of EBD (electronic brake forc e dis‐
tribution)
EBD is characterized bythefo llowing:
RMonitoring and regulating the brake pressure
on there ar wheels.

cally.
If yo udo not react tothe visual or acoustic warn‐
ing, autonomous braking can be initiated in criti‐
cal situations.
In especially critical situations, Active Brake
Assi stcan initiate autonomous braking direct ly.
In this case, the visual and acoustic warning
occurs simultaneously with the braking applica‐
tion.
If yo uappl yth e brake yourself ina critical situa‐
tion or applyth e brake during autonomous brak‐
ing, situation-dependent braking assis tance
occurs . If necessary ,th is inc reases the brake
pressure up tofull brake application.
If th e autonomous braking function or the situa‐
tion-dependent braking assis tance is trig gered,
additional pr eventive measure sfo r occupant
pr otection (PRE-SAFE
®) may also be initiated, if

Distance warning function
The dis tance warning function issues a warning
at speeds:
RFr om appr oximately 4 mph (7 km/h), if your
ve hicle is critically close toave hicle or
pedestrian. An intermittent warning tone
sounds and the· distance warning lamp
lights up in the instrument clus ter.
Brake immediately or take evasive action, pr ovi‐
ded it is safe todo so and the traf fic situation

Evasive Steering Assist
Evasive Steering Assist cannot always clearly
identify objects and complex traf fic situa‐
tions.
In addition, thesteering support of Evasive

RIfth e sensors malfunction due to otherradar

re flections in a parking garage .
RIf a loss of tire pressure or a defective tire
has been de tected and displ ayed.
The sy stem may not react cor rectly:
RIn complex traffic st ations where objects
cannot alw ays be clearly identified.
RTo pedestrians or vehicles if they mo ve
qu ickly into the sensor de tection range.
RTo pedestrians who are hidden by other
objects.
RIf th e typical outline of a pedestrian cannot
be distinguished from the bac kground.
RIfa pedestrian isnot recognized as such , e.g.

Speed control cruise control
Function of cruise control
Cruise cont rol accelerates and brakes theve hi‐
cle automatically in order tomaintain a pr evi‐
ously stored speed.
If yo u accelerate toove rtake, forex ample, the
st ored speed is not dele ted. If youre mo veyour
fo ot from the accelerator pedal af terove rtaking,
cruise control will resume speed regulation back
to thestored speed.
Yo u can operate cruise cont rol with the cruise
control le ver.
If yo ufa ilto adapt your dr ivingst yle, cruise con‐
trol can neither reduce therisk of an accident
nor override the la wsof ph ysics. It cannot take
into account road, weather or traf fic conditions.
Cruise control is only an aid. You are responsible
fo rth e dis tance totheve hicle in front, forve hi‐
cle speed, for braking in good time and forst ay ‐
ing in lane.
Sy stem limitations
Cruise control may be unable tomaintain the
st ored speed on uphill gradients. The stored
speed is resumed when the gradient evens out. Change into a lo
werge ar in good time on long
and steep downhill gradients. Take particular
no te ofthis when driving a laden vehicle. By
doing so, you will make use of the braking ef fect
of the engine. This relie vesth e load on the brake
sy stem and pr events the brakes from overheat‐
ing and

Do not use cruise control in thefo llowing situa‐
tions:
RIn traf fic situations whi chrequ ire frequent
ch anges of speed, e.g. in heavy traf fic, on
winding roads
ROn slippery roads. Accelerating can cause

va te Active Dis tance Assist DISTRONIC du ring a journ
eyor while stationar y.When Active Dis‐
ta nce Assist DISTRONIC is acti vated, a speed is
st ored which the driver can increase or reduce
at any time. The speed can be adjus ted between
15 mp h (20 km/h) and 120mp h(2 00 km/h).
Ve hicles with the Driving Assistance Pack‐
age: The speed can be adju sted between
15 mp h (20 km/h) and 130mp h(210 km/h).
Ve hicles with Driving Assistance Package,
Ac tive Park ing Assist and COMAND: Upto30
seconds af terst opping, theve hicle automatically
fo llo ws theve hicle ahead without the inter ven‐
tion of the driver. This is only possible if theve hi‐
cle is tr aveling on a free wayor ahigh-speed
majo rro ad. If an obs tacle is de tected in front of
th eve hicle during the driving-off procedure, a
ta ke ove rwa rning is given. Acceleration is
re duced, the driver is given a visual and acoustic
wa rning and must stop theve hicle before reach‐
ing the obs tacle or take eva sive action.
