Setting climate control to automatic
General notes The automatic climate control function is only
available in conjunction with dual-zone auto-
matic climate control.
In automatic mode, the set temperature is main-
tained automatically at ac onstant level. The
system automatically regulates the temperature
of the dispensed air, the airflow and the air dis-
tribution.
The "Cooling with air dehumidification" function
is activated automatically in automatic mode.
Setting climate control to automatic X
Turn the SmartKey to position 2 in the ignition
lock ( Y
page 122).X
Set the desired temperature. X
To activate: press the X button.
The indicator lamp in the X button lights
up. Automatic air distribution and airflow are
activated. X

The climate control system switches to the
following functions: R

i The "Windshield defrosting" function auto-
matically sets the blower level to the optimum
defrosting effect .Asar esult, the airflow may
increase or decrease automatically after the
d button is pressed.
i You can adjust the blower level manually
while the "Windshield defrosting" function is
in operation: R
Air-conditioning system: turn airflow con-
trol

i If you activate the residual heat function at
high temperatures, only the ventilation wil lb e
activated. The blower runs at mediu ms peed.
i You cannot use the ventilation to cool the
vehicle interior to at emperature lowe rt han
the outsid et emperature.
Activating/deactivating X
Turn the SmartKey to position Z in the igni-
tion lock or remove it ( Y
page 122).X
Press the K button.
The indicator lamp in the K button lights
up or goes out.
The indicator lamp in the button indicates that
the respective function is activated.

Air vents
Important safety notes
G WARNING
Very hot or very cold air can flow from the air
vents. This could resul tinb urns or frostbite in
the immediate vicinity of the air vents. There
is ar isk of injury.
Make sure that all vehicle occupants always
maintain as ufficient distance to the air out-
lets. If necessary ,r edirect the airflow to
another area of the vehicle interior.
In order to ensure the direct flow of fresh air
through the air vents into the vehicle interior,
please observe the following notes: R
keep the air inlet between the windshield and
the hood free of blockages, such as ice, snow
or leaves. R
never cover the air vents or air intake grilles in
the vehicle interior.
i For optimal climate control in the vehicle,
open the air vents completely and set the
adjusters to the central position. Setting the air vents

Climate control

G WARNING
Flammable materials introduced through
environmental influence or by animals can
ignite if in contact with the exhaust system or
parts of the engine that hea tu p. There is ar isk
of fire.
Carry out regular checks to make sure that
there are no flammable foreig nm aterials in
the engine compartment or in the exhaust
system.
General notes During ac old start, the engine runs at higher
speeds to enabl et he catalytic converter to
reach its operating temperature. The sound of
the engine may change during this time.

Starting procedure with the SmartKey To start the engine using the SmartKey instead
of the Start/Stop button, pul lt he Start/Stop
button out of the ignitio nl ock.X
Turn the SmartKey to position I in the igni-
tion lock ( Y
pag e1 22) and release it as soon
as the engine is running.
Starting procedure with the Start/Stop
button The Start/Stop button can be used to start the
vehicl em anually without inserting the SmartKey
into the ignitio nl ock. The Start/Stop button
must be inserted in the ignitio nl ock and the
SmartKey must be in the vehicle. This mode for
starting the engine operates independently of
the ECO start/stop automatic engine start func-
tion.
You can start the engine if av ali dS martKey is in
the vehicle. Switch off the engine and always
take the SmartKey with you when leaving the vehicle, even if you only leave it for as hort time.
Pay attention to the important safety notes. X

phone from outside the vehicle. In this case, the
previousl ys elected climate control setting is
activated. In this way you can cool or heat the
interior of the vehicl eb efore starting the jour-
ney.
Only start the engine via you rs martphone if it is
safe to start and run the engine where you rv ehi-
cle is parked.
Observe the lega ls tipulations in the area where
you rv ehicl eisp arked .E ngine start via smart-
phone may be limited to certain countries or
regions.
You can execute am aximu moft wo consecutive
starting attempts via you rs martphone. If you
insert the SmartKey into the ignitio nl ock, you
can carry out two more starting attempts.
Once you have started the engine, you can
switch the engine off via you rs martphone at any
time.
You can only start the engine via you rs mart-
phone if: R

the anti-theft alarm system is not activated R

start. You cannot hear
the starter motor. The on-board voltage is too low because the battery is too weak or
discharged. X

The starter motor was exposed to at hermal load that was too high.X
Allow the starter motor to cool down for approximately two minutes. X

The engine is not running
smoothly and is misfir-
ing. There is am alfunction in the engine electronics or in am echanical
componen toft he engine management system.X
Only depress the accelerator pedal slightly.
Otherwise, non-combusted fuel may get into the catalytic converter
and damage it. X
Have the cause rectified immediately at aq ualified specialist work-
shop.
The coolant temperature
gauge shows av alue
above 248 ‡( 120 †).
The coolant warning
lamp may also be on and

sound. The coolant level is too low. The coolant is too hot and the engine is no
longer being cooled sufficiently. X
Stop as soon as possible and allow the engine and the coolant to
cool down. X

as you do so and add coolant if necessary.
DYNAMIC SELEC Tb utton (all vehicles
except Mercedes-AMG vehicles) Use the DYNAMIC SELECT button to change the
drive program. Depending on the drive program
selected the following vehicle characteristics
will change: R
the drive (engine and transmission manage-
ment) R
the suspension (vehicles with damping sys-
tem or AMG adaptive sport suspension sys-
tem) R
the steering R
the availability of the ECO start/stop function R
the climate control:
Each time you start the engine with the Smart-
Key or the Start/Stop button, drive program C is
activated. For further information about starting
the engine, see ( Y
page 125). X
Press DYNAMIC SELECT button C as many
times as necessary until the desired drive
program is selected.
The selected drive program appears in the
multifunction display .A fter five seconds the
display goes out and the status icon of the
selected drive program appears.128

antifreeze and anti-corrosion protection.

Windshield washe rs ystem
Important safety notes
G WARNING

it comes into contact with hot engine compo-
nents or the exhaust system .T here is ar isk of
fire and injury.
Make sure that no windshield washer con-
centrate is spilled next to the filler neck.
! Only MB SummerFi ta nd MB WinterFit
washer flui ds hould be mixed together. The
spra yn ozzles may otherwise become
blocked.
Do not use distille dord e-ionized water. Other-
wise, the leve ls ensor may give af als er eading. When handling washer fluid, observe the impor-
tant safety notes on service products

At temperatures above freezing: X
Fill the washer flui dr eservoir with am ixture of
water and windshield washer fluid, e.g. MB
SummerFit.
Add 1p art MB SummerFi tto1 00 parts water.
At temperatures below freezing: X
Fill the washer flui dr eservoir with am ixture of
water and washer fluid, e.g. MB WinterFit.
For the correct mixing ratio refer to the infor-
mation on the antifreeze reservoir.
i Add windshield washer fluid, e.g. MB Sum-
merFit or MB WinterFit, to the washer flui da ll
yea rr ound.
Climate control system refrigerant
Important safety notes The climate control system of you rv ehicl eisf il-
led with refrigerant R ‑ 134a.
The instruction label regarding the refrigerant
type use dc an be found on the left, on the under-
side of the hood.
! Only the refrigerant R ‑ 134a and the PAG oil
approved by Mercedes-Benz may be used.
The approved PAG oil may not be mixed with
any other PAG oil that is not approved for
R-134a refrigerant. Otherwise, the climate
control system may be damaged.
Service work, such as refilling with refrigerant or
replacing component parts, may only be carried
out by aq ualified specialist workshop. All appli-
cabl er egulations, as wel lasS AE standard J639,
must be adhered to.
