▼Trailer Towing Tips
•Verify that your Mazda
maintains a near-normal attitude when a loaded or unloaded trailer
is connected. Do not drive if it has an abn ormal front-up or front-down position. Inspect
for incorrect tongue load, worn suspension parts, and trailer o verloading.
•Make sure the trailer is properly loaded and the cargo is secur e to prevent it from shifting.
•Make sure the mirrors conform to all government regulations. If they do not, install
required rear view mirrors appr opriate for towing purposes.
The three main causes of vehicle-trailer accidents are driver e rror, excessive speed, and
improper trailer loading.
Before driving
•Have your cooling and braking system checked by an Authorized M azda Dealer.
•Before starting out, inspect the operation of all vehicle and trailer lights and all
vehicle-to-trailer connections. S top and re-inspect all lights and connections after driving
a short distance.
Driving
•Your Mazda will handle differe ntly with a trailer in tow, so practice turning, backing, and
stopping in a traffic-free area.
•Take time to get accustomed to the extra weight and length.
•Allow more room between your vehicle and the one in front becau se braking distance
increases with a trailer. For eac h 16 km/h (10 mph) of speed, a llow at least one vehicle
and trailer length between your Mazda and the vehicle ahead.
•Avoid jerky starts or sudden acceleration.
•Avoid sudden braking. It may cau se loss of control and result in jackknifing, especially so
on wet or slippery roads.
•Shift the selector lever to the D position when towing a traile r in hilly terrain or when
heavily loaded.
The D position will allow opera ting the vehicle without frequen t shifting.
Lane changes and turning
Avoid quick lane changes, sudden turns, and tight turns. Slow d own before turning to avoid
the need of sudden braking.
A turning trailer will make a tigh ter arc than the tow vehicle. Compensate with turns that are
larger than normal.

Forward Sensing Camera (FSC)
The Forward Sensing Camera (FSC) detects lane indications and recognizes headlights,
taillights and city lights during
nighttime driving. In addition, it also detects the vehicle
ahead, pedestrians, or obstructi ons. The following systems also use the Forward Sensing
Camera (FSC).
•High Beam Control system (HBC)
•Lane-keep Assist System (LAS) & Lane Departure Warning System ( LDWS)
•Traffic Sign Recognition System (TSR)
•Mazda Radar Cruise Control with Stop & Go function (MRCC with S top & Go function)

The Forward Sensing Camera (FSC) is installed at the top of the windshield near the
rearview mirror.

Radar sensor (front)
The radar sensor (front) functions by detecting the radio waves reflected off a vehicle ahead
sent from the radar sensor. The following systems also use the radar sensor (front).
•Mazda Radar Cruise Control with Stop & Go function (MRCC with S top & Go function)
•Distance Recognition Support System (DRSS)
•Smart Brake Support (SBS)
The radar sensor (front) is mount ed behind the radiator grille.

•When there is a difference in the height between your driving lane and the adjacent
lane.
•Directly after the BSM system becomes operable by changing the setting.
•If the road width is extremely narrow, vehicles two lanes over may be detected. The
detection area of the radar sensors (rear) is set according to the road width of
expressways.
•The BSM warning indicator light may turn on and the vehicle detection screen may be
displayed in the display in reaction to stationary objects (guardrails, tunnels, sidewalls,
and parked vehicles) on the road or the roadside.
Objects such as guardrails and concrete walls
running alongside the vehicle. Places where the width between guardrails or
walls on each side of the vehicle narrows.
The walls at the entrance and exits of tunnels
and turnouts.
•A BSM warning indicator light may flash or the warning beep may be activated several
times when making a turn at a city intersection.
•Turn off the BSM while pulling a trailer or wh
ile an accessory such as a bicycle carrier is
installed to the rear of the vehicle. Otherwise, the radar’s radio waves will be blocked
causing the system to not operate normally.
•In the following cases, it may be difficult to view the illumination/flashing of the BSM
warning indicator lights equipped on the door mirrors.
•Snow or ice is adhering to the door mirrors.
•The front door glass is fogged or covered in snow, frost or dirt.
•The radar sensors (rear) of the BSM may be regulated under the radio wave related laws
of the country where the vehicle is driven. The sensors in this system are approved for use
in the U.S.A. (including territories), and Canada. If a vehicle with a BSM is driven in a
country other than the U.S.A., or Canada, the system has to be turned off by changing the
setting on the center display.
•The system switches to the Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA) function when the selector
lever is shifted to the reverse (R) position.

RCTA operation
1. The RCTA system operates when the selector lever is shifted to the reverse (R) position.
2. If there is the po ssibility of a collision with an approachin g vehicle, the Blind Spot
Monitoring (BSM) warning indicator lights flashes and the warni ng beep is activated
simultaneously.

The RCTA warning indication in t he rearview monitor also synchronizes with the Blind
Spot Monitoring (BSM) warning indicator light on the door mirro rs.

WA R N I N G
Always check the surrounding area visually before actually putting the vehicle in reverse:
The system is only designed to assist you in checking for vehicles at the rear when putting the
vehicle in reverse. Due to certain limitations with the operation of this system, the Blind Spot
Monitoring (BSM) warning indicator lights may not flash or it might be delayed even though
a vehicle is behind your vehicl e. Always make it your responsibility as a driver to check the
rear.
NOTE
•In the following cases, the Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM) OFF indicator light turns on and
operation of the system is stopped. If the Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM) OFF indicator
light remains illuminated, have the vehicle inspected at an Authorized Mazda Dealer as
soon as possible.
•Some problem with the system including the Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM) warning
indicator lights has occurred.

•In the following cases, it may be difficult to view the illumination/flashing of the Blind
Spot Monitoring (BSM) warning indicator lights equipped on the door mirrors.
•Snow or ice adheres to the door mirrors.
•The front door glass is fogged or covered in snow, frost or dirt.
•Turn off the RCTA system while pulling a trailer or while an accessory such as a bicycle
carrier is installed to the rear of the vehic le. Otherwise, the radio waves emitted by the
radar will be blocked causing the system to not operate normally.

Forward Sensing Camera (FSC)*
Your vehicle is equipped with a Forward Sensing Camera (FSC). The Forward Sensing
Camera (FSC) is positioned near t he rearview mirror and used by the following systems.

Forward Sensing Camera (FSC)
The Forward Sensing Camera (FSC) determines the conditions ahead of the vehicle while
traveling at night and detects traffic lanes. The distance in w hich the Forward Sensing
Camera (FSC) can detect objects varies depending on the surroun ding conditions.
WA R N I N G
Do not modify the suspension:
If the vehicle height or inclination is changed, the system will not be able to correctly detect
vehicles ahead. This will result in the system not operating normally or mistakenly operating,
which could cause a serious accident.
CAUTION
Do not apply accessories, stickers or film to the windshield near the Forward Sensing
Camera (FSC).
If the area in front of the Forward Sensing Came ra (FSC) lens is obstructed, it will cause the
system to not operate correctly. Consequently, each system may not operate normally
which could lead to an unexpected accident.

Rear View Monitor*
The rear view monitor provides visual images of the rear of the vehicle when reversing.
WA R N I N G
Always drive carefully
confirming the safety of the rear and the surrounding conditions by
looking directly with your eyes:
Reversing the vehicle by only looking at the screen is dangerous as it may cause an accident
or a collision with an object. The rear view monitor is only a visual assist device when
reversing the vehicle. The images on the screen may be different from the actual conditions.
CAUTION
Do not use the rear view monitor under the following conditions: Using the rear view
monitor under the following conditions is dang erous and could result in injury or vehicle
damage or both.
Icy or snow-covered roads.
Tire chains or a temporary spare tire is installed.
The liftgate is not fully closed.
The vehicle is on a road incline.
When the display is cold, images may course across the monitor or the screen and may be
dimmer than usual, which could cause difficul ty in confirming the surrounding conditions
of the vehicle. Always drive carefully confirm ing the safety of the rear and the surrounding
conditions by looking directly with your eyes.
Do not apply excessive force to the camera. The camera position and angle may deviate.
Do not disassemble, modify, or remove it as it may no longer be waterproof.
The camera cover is made of plastic. Do not apply degreasing agents, organic solvents,
wax, or glass coating agents to the camera co ver. If any are spilled on the cover, wipe off
with a soft cloth immediately.
Do not rub the camera cover forcefully with an abrasive or hard brush. The camera cover or
lens may be scratched which might affect the images.
NOTE
•If water, snow, or mud is stuck on the camera lens, wipe it off using a soft cloth. If it
cannot be wiped off, use a mild detergent.
•If the camera temperature changes rapidly (Hot to cold, cold to hot), the rear view
monitor may not ope rate correctly.
•When replacing the tires, consult an Author ized Mazda Dealer. Replacing the tires could
result in deviation of the guide lines which appear on the display.
