ENGINE OIL CHECK
To check the engine oil level consistentlyand accurately, do the following:
1.Make sure the parking brake is on. Makesure the transmission is in park (P) orneutral (N).
2. Run the engine until it reaches normaloperating temperature.
3. Make sure that your vehicle is on levelground.
4.Switch the engine off and wait 15 minutesfor the oil to drain into the oil pan. Checking the engine oil level too soonafter you switch the engine off may resultin an inaccurate reading.
5. Open the hood. See Opening andClosing the Hood (page 308).
6. Remove the dipstick and wipe it with aclean, lint-free cloth. See Under HoodOverview (page 310).
7.Replace the dipstick and remove it againto check the oil level. See Under HoodOverview (page 310).
8. Make sure that the oil level is betweenthe maximum and minimum marks. If theoil level is at the minimum mark, add oilimmediately. See Capacities andSpecifications (page 387).
9. If the oil level is correct, replace thedipstick and make sure it is fully seated.

2. Leave the engine running until thecoolant temperature gauge needlereturns to the normal position. Afterseveral minutes, if the temperature doesnot drop, follow the remaining steps.
3. Switch the engine off and wait for it tocool. Check the coolant level.
4. If the coolant level is at or below theminimum mark, add prediluted coolantimmediately.
5. If the coolant level is normal, restart theengine and continue.
AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION
FLUID CHECK - 2.7L ECOBOOST™/

WARNING
Do not use supplemental transmissionfluid additives, treatments or cleaningagents. The use of these materials may affecttransmission operation and result in damageto internal transmission components.
The transmission does not consume fluid.However, if the transmission slips or shiftsslowly you should check the fluid level. If younotice a sign of leaking fluid, contact anauthorized dealer.
Checking the Transmission Fluid Level*
Only check the transmission fluid level whenthe engine is at normal operating temprature179°F (82°C)-199°F (93°C). Normal operatingtemprature is reached after drivingapproximately 20 mi (30 km).

Note:Check the fluid level with the enginerunning and the transmission in park (P).

2. Rotate the automatic transmission fluidcap in a counterclockwise direction. SeeUnder Hood Overview (page 310).
3. Remove the cap and dipstick and wipeit with a clean, lint-free cloth. Replace thecap and dipstick and remove it again tocheck the fluid level.
4.Make sure that the fluid level is betweenthe MIN and the MAX marks. If the fluidlevel is at the MIN mark, add fluidimmediately. See Adding TransmissionFluid.
5.Replace the automatic transmission fluidcap and dipstick. Turn it clockwise untilyou feel a strong resistance.
Low Fluid Level
If the fluid level is within the minimum range(below point A) add the correct specificationfluid to be within the hash mark area. SeeCapacities and Specifications (page 381).

Note:If the fluid level is below the minimumrange do not drive your vehicle. An underfillconition can damage the transmission.
Correct Fluid Level
If the fluid level is within the hash mark area(between points A and B) do not add anyfluid.
High Fluid Level
If the fluid level is above the maximum range(above point B) fluid may need to beremoved. High fluid levels may be causedby a overheating condition. If you haveoperated your vehicle at high speeds, towinga trailer or in city traffic during hot weather,allow your vehicle to cool for a minimum of30 minutes before rechecking the level.
Note:An overfill conition can damage thetransmission.
Adding Transmission Fluid*
1. Rotate the automatic transmission fluidcap in a counterclockwise direction.*
2. Remove the cap and dipstick and wipeit with a clean, lint-free cloth.
3. Add fluid that meets the Fordspecifications. See Capacities andSpecifications (page 387). Pour the fluiddirectly into the automatic transmissionfluid cap and dipstick hole.
4.Replace the cap and dipstick and removeit again to check the fluid level.
5.Make sure that the fluid level is betweenthe MIN and the MAX marks.
6.Replace the automatic transmission fluidcap and dipstick. Turn it clockwise untilyou feel a strong resistance.
*Vehicles With 2.7L EcoBoost
WARNING
Do not run the engine with the air filterdisconnected.
1. Remove the two air filter assemblysecuring bolts.
2. Lift the air filter assembly to disengagethe locating pins.

3.Rotate the air filter assembly slightly in acounterclockwise direction.
4. Check the fluid level. See Checking theTransmission Fluid Level.
5. Install in reverse order. Tighten the twoair filter assembly securing bolts until youfeel a strong resistance.
BRAKE FLUID CHECK
WARNINGS
Do not use any fluid other than therecommended brake fluid as this willreduce brake efficiency. Use of incorrect fluidcould result in the loss of vehicle control,serious personal injury or death.
Only use brake fluid from a sealedcontainer. Contamination with dirt,water, petroleum products or other materialsmay result in brake system damage or failure.Failure to adhere to this warning could resultin the loss of vehicle control, seriouspersonal injury or death.
WARNINGS
Do not allow the fluid to touch yourskin or eyes. If this happens, rinse theaffected areas immediately with plenty ofwater and contact your physician.
A fluid level between the MAX andMIN lines is within the normaloperating range and there is no need to addfluid. A fluid level not in the normal operatingrange could compromise the performanceof the system. Have your vehicle checkedimmediately.
To avoid fluid contamination, the reservoircap must remain in place and fully tight,unless you are adding fluid.
Only use fluid that meets Ford specifications.See Capacities and Specifications (page381).

When driving with the full-size dissimilarspare wheel and tire assembly, do not:
•Exceed 70 mph (113 km/h).
•Use more than one dissimilar sparewheel and tire assembly at a time.
•Use commercial car washing equipment.
•Use snow chains on the end of thevehicle with the dissimilar spare wheeland tire assembly.
The usage of a full-size dissimilar sparewheel and tire assembly can lead toimpairment of the following:
•Handling, stability and brakingperformance.
•Comfort and noise.
•Ground clearance and parking at curbs.
•Winter weather driving capability.
•Wet weather driving capability.
•All-wheel driving capability.
When driving with the full-size dissimilarspare wheel and tire assembly additionalcaution should be given to:
•Towing a trailer.
•Driving vehicles equipped with a camperbody.
•Driving vehicles with a load on the cargorack.
Drive cautiously when using a full-sizedissimilar spare wheel and tire assembly andseek service as soon as possible.
Tire Change Procedure
WARNINGS
When one of the front wheels is off theground, the transmission alone will notprevent the vehicle from moving or slippingoff the jack, even if the transmission is in park(P).
WARNINGS
To help prevent your vehicle frommoving when changing a wheel, shiftthe transmission into park (P), set the parkingbrake and use an appropriate block or wheelchock to secure the wheel diagonallyopposite to the wheel being changed. Forexample, when changing the front left wheel,place an appropriate block or wheel chockon the right rear wheel.
No person should place any portion oftheir body under a vehicle that issupported by a jack.
Do not attempt to change a tire on theside of the vehicle close to movingtraffic. Pull far enough off the road to avoidthe danger of being hit when operating thejack or changing the wheel.
Always use the jack provided asoriginal equipment with your vehicle.If using a jack other than the one provided,make sure the jack capacity is adequate forthe vehicle weight, including any vehiclecargo or modifications. If you are unsure ifthe jack capacity is adequate, contact theauthorized dealer.

Wheels and Tires

Note:Passengers should not remain in yourvehicle when the vehicle is being jacked.
1. Park on a level surface, set the parkingbrake and activate the hazard flashers.
2. Place the transmission in park (P) andturn the engine off.
3.Block both the front and rear of the wheeldiagonally opposite the flat tire. Forexample, if the left front tire is flat, blockthe right rear wheel.
4. Lift and remove the carpeted load floorpanel to access the mini-spare and jackkit.
5. Remove the steel winged washer nutsecuring the spare tire by turning itcounterclockwise.
6.Remove the spare tire from the spare tirecompartment.
7. Remove plastic wing nut and jack andlug wrench assembly. Detach lug wrenchfrom jack by turning the jack hex nutdrive screw counterclockwise.
8.Loosen each wheel lug nut one-half turncounterclockwise, but do not removethem until the wheel is raised off theground.
9. The vehicle jacking points are depictedby arrows on the underside of the vehicleat the locations shown above.
10. Find the arrows embossed on thevehicle downward flange next to thetire you are changing. Position the jackso that the vehicle downward flangerests in the jack saddle flange betweenthe arrows, as shown above. Raise thevehicle by using the lug wrench to turnthe jack nut clockwise. Once the flat tireis raised above the ground, remove thelug nuts with the lug wrench.
