1. Pull off the road as soon as safelypossible and switch the engine off.
2. If you are a member of a roadsideassistance program, we recommend thatyou contact your roadside assistanceservice provider.
3.If this is not possible, wait a short periodfor the engine to cool.
4. Check the coolant level. If the coolantlevel is at or below the minimum mark,add prediluted coolant immediately.
5.When the engine temperature cools, youcan re-start the engine. Have your vehiclechecked as soon as possible to minimizeengine damage.
Note:Driving your vehicle without repairincreases the chance of engine damage.
Engine Coolant TemperatureManagement (If Equipped)
WARNING
To reduce the risk of crash and injury,be prepared that the vehicle speedmay reduce and the vehicle may not be ableto accelerate with full power until the coolanttemperature reduces.
If you tow a trailer with your vehicle, theengine may temporarily reach a highertemperature during severe operatingconditions, for example ascending a long orsteep grade in high ambient temperatures.
At this time, you may notice the coolanttemperature gauge moves toward the redzone and a message may appear in theinformation display.
You may notice a reduction in vehicle speedcaused by reduced engine power in orderto manage the engine coolant temperature. Your vehicle may enter this mode if certainhigh-temperature and high-load conditionstake place. The amount of speed reductiondepends on vehicle loading, grade andambient temperature. If this occurs, there isno need to stop your vehicle. You cancontinue to drive.
The air conditioning may automatically turnon and off during severe operatingconditions to protect the engine fromoverheating. When the coolant temperaturedecreases to the normal operatingtemperature, the air conditioning turns on.
If the coolant temperature gauge moves fullyinto the red zone, or if the coolanttemperature warning or service engine soonmessages appear in your information display,do the following:
1.Stop your vehicle as soon as it is safe todo so. Fully apply the parking brake, shiftinto park (P) or neutral (N).

Note:If the fluid level is below the minimumrange do not drive your vehicle. An underfillconition can damage the transmission.
Correct Fluid Level
If the fluid level is within the hash mark area(between points A and B) do not add anyfluid.
High Fluid Level
If the fluid level is above the maximum range(above point B) fluid may need to beremoved. High fluid levels may be causedby a overheating condition. If you haveoperated your vehicle at high speeds, towinga trailer or in city traffic during hot weather,allow your vehicle to cool for a minimum of30 minutes before rechecking the level.
Note:An overfill conition can damage thetransmission.
Adding Transmission Fluid*
1. Rotate the automatic transmission fluidcap in a counterclockwise direction.*
2. Remove the cap and dipstick and wipeit with a clean, lint-free cloth.
3. Add fluid that meets the Fordspecifications. See Capacities andSpecifications (page 387). Pour the fluiddirectly into the automatic transmissionfluid cap and dipstick hole.
4.Replace the cap and dipstick and removeit again to check the fluid level.
5.Make sure that the fluid level is betweenthe MIN and the MAX marks.
6.Replace the automatic transmission fluidcap and dipstick. Turn it clockwise untilyou feel a strong resistance.
*Vehicles With 2.7L EcoBoost
WARNING
Do not run the engine with the air filterdisconnected.
1. Remove the two air filter assemblysecuring bolts.
2. Lift the air filter assembly to disengagethe locating pins.

CLEANING THE EXTERIOR
Wash your vehicle regularly with cool orlukewarm water and a neutral pH shampoo,we recommend Motorcraft Detail Wash.
•Never use strong household detergentsor soap, for example dish washing orlaundry liquid. These products candiscolor and spot painted surfaces.
•Never wash your vehicle when it is hotto the touch, or during strong or directsunlight.
•Dry your vehicle with a chamois or softterry cloth towel to eliminate waterspotting.
•Immediately remove fuel spillages, birddroppings, insect deposits and road tar.These may cause damage to yourvehicle’s paintwork or trim over time. Werecommend Motorcraft Bug and TarRemover.
•Remove any exterior accessories, forexample antennas, before entering a carwash.
Note:Suntan lotions and insect repellentscan damage painted surfaces. If thesesubstances come in contact with yourvehicle, wash the affected area as soon aspossible.
Cleaning the Headlamps
Note:Do not scrape the headlamp lensesor use abrasives, alcoholic solvents orchemical solvents to clean them.
Note:Do not wipe the headlamps when theyare dry.
Exterior Chrome Parts
•Apply a high quality-cleaning product tobumpers and other chrome parts. Followthe manufacturer’s instructions. Werecommend Motorcraft Custom BrightMetal Cleaner.
•Do not apply the cleaning product to hotsurfaces. Do not leave the cleaningproduct on chrome surfaces longer thanthe time recommended.
•Using non-recommended cleaners canresult in severe and permanent cosmeticdamage.
Note:Never use abrasive materials, forexample steel wool or plastic pads as theycan scratch the chrome surface.

2. Use Motorcraft Premium Leather andVinyl Cleaner or a commercially availableleather cleaning product for automotiveinteriors. Test any cleaner or stainremover on an inconspicuous area.
3. Alternatively, wipe the surface with aclean, soft cloth and a mild soap andwater solution. Dry the area with a clean,soft cloth.
4.If necessary, apply more soap and watersolution or cleaning product to a clean,soft cloth and press it onto the soiledarea. Allow this to set at roomtemperature for 30 minutes.
5. Remove the soaked cloth, then with aclean, damp cloth, use a rubbing motionfor 60 seconds on the soiled area.
6. Dry the area with a clean, soft cloth.
CLEANING LEATHER SEATS
Note:Follow the same procedure ascleaning leather seats for cleaning leatherinstrument panels and leather interior trimsurfaces.
For routine cleaning, wipe the surface witha soft, damp cloth and a mild soap and watersolution. Dry the area with a clean, soft cloth.
For cleaning and removing stains such asdye transfer, use Motorcraft Premium Leatherand Vinyl Cleaner or a commercially availableleather cleaning product for automotiveinteriors.
Note:Test any cleaner or stain remover onan inconspicuous area.
You should:
•Remove dust and loose dirt with avacuum cleaner.
•Clean and treat spills and stains as soonas possible.
Do not use the following products as thesemay damage the leather:
•Oil and petroleum or silicone-basedleather conditioners.
•Household cleaners.
•Alcohol solutions.
•Solvents or cleaners intended specificallyfor rubber, vinyl and plastics.
REPAIRING MINOR PAINT
DAMAGE
Authorized dealers have touch-up paint tomatch your vehicle’s color. Your vehicle colorcode is printed on a sticker on the front,left-hand side door jamb. Take your colorcode to your authorized dealer to make sureyou get the correct color.
Before repairing minor paint damage, use acleaner such as Motorcraft Bug and TarRemover to remove particles such as birddroppings, tree sap, insect deposits, tarspots, road salt and industrial fallout.
Always read the instructions before usingcleaning products.
CLEANING THE WHEELS
Note:Do not apply a cleaning chemical towarm or hot wheel rims and covers.

General Information
WARNING
Failure to follow these guidelines couldresult in an increased risk of loss ofvehicle control, injury or death.
Note:Do not use the kit if you have severelydamaged a tire. Only seal punctures locatedwithin the tire tread with the kit.
Do not attempt to repair punctures largerthan ¼ inch (6 millimeters) or damage to thetire's sidewall. The tire may not completelyseal.
Loss of air pressure may adversely affect tireperformance. For this reason:
Note:Do not drive the vehicle above 50 mph(80 km/h).
Note:Do not drive further than 120 mi(200 km). Drive only to the closest authorizedFord dealer or tire repair shop to have yourtire inspected.
•Drive carefully and avoid abrupt steeringmaneuvers.
•Periodically monitor tire inflation pressurein the affected tire; if the tire is losingpressure, have the vehicle towed.
•Read the information in the Tips for Useof the Kit section to make sure safeoperation of the kit and your vehicle.
Tips for Use of the Kit
To ensure safe operation of the kit:
•Read all instructions and cautions fully.
•Before operating the kit, make sure yourvehicle is safely off the road and awayfrom moving traffic. Switch on the hazardlights.

7. Turn dial (A) clockwise to the sealantposition. Switch the kit on by pressingthe on/off button (B).
8. Inflate the tire to the pressure listed onthe tire label located on the driver's dooror the door jamb area. The initial airpressure gauge reading may indicate avalue higher than the label pressurewhile you pump the sealing compoundinto the tire. This is normal and shouldbe no reason for concern. The pressuregauge reading will indicate the tireinflation pressure after about 30 secondsof operation. You should check the finaltire pressure with the compressor turnedOFF in order to get an accurate pressurereading.
9.When the tire reaches the recommendedtire pressure, switch off the kit, unplugthe power cable, and disconnect thehose from the tire valve. Re-install thevalve cap on the tire valve and return thekit to the stowage area.
10. Immediately and cautiously, drive thevehicle 4 mi (6 km) to distribute thesealant evenly inside the tire. Do notexceed 50 mph (80 km/h).
11. After 4 mi (6 km), stop and check thetire pressure. See Second Stage:Checking Tire Pressure.
Note:If you experience any unusualvibration, ride disturbance or noise whiledriving, reduce your speed until you cansafely pull off to the side of the road to callfor roadside assistance. Note: Do notproceed to the second stage of thisoperation.

Second Stage: Checking Tire Pressure
Note:If you are proceeding from the FirstStage: Re-inflating the Tire with SealingCompound and Air section and have injectedsealant in the tire and the pressure is below20 psi (1.4 bar), continue to the next step.
WARNING
The power plug may get hot after useand should be handled carefully whenunplugging.
Check the air pressure of your tires asfollows:
1.Remove the valve cap from the tire valve.
2. Firmly screw the air compressor hoseonto the valve stem by turning clockwise.
3. Push and turn the dial clockwise to theair position.
4.If required, switch on the compressor andadjust the tire to the recommendedinflation pressure shown on the tire labellocated on the driver's door or door jambarea. You should check the tire pressurewith the compressor turned OFF in orderto get an accurate pressure reading.
5.Unplug the hoses, re-install the valve capon the tire and return the kit to thestowage area.
What to Do After the Tire has BeenSealed
After using the kit to seal your tire, you willneed to replace the sealant canister. Youcan obtain sealant canisters and spare partsat an authorized Ford dealer. You candispose of empty sealant canisters at home.However, you should dispose of canistersstill containing liquid sealant through yourlocal authorized Ford dealer or tire dealer,or in accordance with local waste disposalregulation.
Note:After you use the sealing compound,the maximum vehicle speed is 50 mph(80 km/h) and the maximum driving distanceis 120 mi (200 km). You should inspect thesealed tire immediately.
You can check the tire pressure any timewithin the 120 mi (200 km) by performing thesteps listed previously in the Second Stage:Checking Tire Pressure procedure.

3. Snap the back cover back into place.
4.Wrap the dual purpose hose (black tube)around the channel on the bottom of thehousing/casing.
5.Wrap the power cord around the housingand stow the accessory power plug intoits storage area.
Note:If you experience any difficulties withthe removal or installation of the sealantcanister, consult an authorized Ford dealerfor assistance.
Make sure you check the sealantcompound’s use-by date regularly. Theuse-by date is on a label located on thesealant canister, which you can see throughthe rectangular viewing window on thebottom of the kit. You should replace thesealant canister after four years of non-use.
TIRE CARE
Important Information About Low-Profile Tires
If your vehicle is equipped with265/40R21 tires, they are low-profiletires. These tires and wheels aredesigned to give your vehicle a sportappearance. With low-profile tires, youmay notice an increase in road noiseand faster tire wear, depending on roadconditions and driving styles. Due totheir design, low-profile tires and wheelsare more prone to road damage frompotholes, rough or unpaved roads, carwash rails and curb contact thanstandard tires and wheels.
Note:Your vehicle's warranty does not
cover these types of damages. Extracaution should be taken when operatingon rough roads to avoid impacts thatcould cause wheel and tire damage.
