Note:Make sure the rear window is cleanbefore using a new wiper blade. SeeVehicle Care (page 333).
ADJUSTING THE HEADLAMPS
Vertical Aim Adjustment
The headlamps on your vehicle are properlyaimed at the assembly plant. If your vehiclehas been involved in a crash, have the aimof the headlamp beam checked by anauthorized dealer.
Headlamp Aiming Target
8 feet (2.4 meters).A
Center height of lamp to ground.B
25 feet (7.6 meters).C
Horizontal reference line.D
Vertical Aim Adjustment Procedure
1.Park the vehicle directly in front of a wallor screen on a level surface, approximately 25 feet (7.6 meters) away.
2.Measure the height of the headlamp bulbcenter from the ground and mark an 8foot (2.4 meter) horizontal reference lineon the vertical wall or screen at thisheight.
Note:To see a clearer light pattern foradjusting, you may want to block the lightfrom one headlamp while adjusting theother.
3. Turn on the low beam headlamps toilluminate the wall or screen and openthe hood.

4.On the wall or screen you will observe aflat zone of high intensity light located atthe top of the right hand portion of thebeam pattern. If the top edge of the highintensity light zone is not at the horizontalreference line, the headlamp will needto be adjusted.
5. Locate the vertical adjuster on eachheadlamp. Using a Phillips #2screwdriver, turn the adjuster eitherclockwise or counterclockwise in orderto adjust the vertical aim of theheadlamp. The horizontal edge of thebrighter light should touch the horizontalreference line.
6. Close the hood and turn off the lamps.

BULB SPECIFICATION CHART
Replacement bulbs are specified in the chartbelow. Headlamp bulbs must be marked withan authorized D.O.T. marking for NorthAmerica to make sure they have the properlamp performance, light brightness, lightpattern, and safe visibility. The correct bulbswill not damage the lamp assembly or voidthe lamp assembly warranty and will providequality bulb illumination time.

CHANGING THE ENGINE AIR
FILTER
WARNING
To reduce the risk of vehicle damageand/or personal burn injuries do notstart your engine with the air cleanerremoved and do not remove it while theengine is running.
When changing the air filter element, useonly the air filter element listed. SeeCapacities and Specifications (page 381).
For EcoBoost equipped vehicles: Whenservicing the air cleaner, it is important thatno foreign material enter the air inductionsystem. The engine and turbocharger aresusceptible to damage from even smallparticles.
Change the air filter element at the properinterval. See Scheduled Maintenance (page517).
Note:Failure to use the correct air filterelement may result in severe enginedamage. The customer warranty may bevoid for any damage to the engine if thecorrect air filter element is not used.
1. Release the clamps that secure the airfilter housing cover.
2. Carefully lift the air filter housing cover.
3.Remove the air filter element from the airfilter housing.
4. Wipe any dirt or debris from the air filterhousing and cover to make sure no dirtgets in the engine and to make sure youhave a good seal.
5.Install a new air filter element. Be carefulnot to crimp the filter element edgesbetween the air filter housing and cover. This could cause filter damage and allowunfiltered air to enter the engine if notproperly seated.
6. Install the air filter housing cover.
7.Engage the clamps to secure the air filterhousing cover to the air filter housing.

Note:Industrial-strength or heavy-dutycleaners in combination with brush agitationto remove brake dust and dirt, could wearaway the clear coat finish over a period time.
Note:Do not use hydrofluoric acid-based orhigh caustic-based wheel cleaners, steelwool, fuels or strong household detergents.
Note:If you intend parking your vehicle foran extended period after cleaning thewheels with a wheel cleaner, drive yourvehicle for a few minutes before doing so.This will reduce the risk of increasedcorrosion of the brake discs.
Alloy wheels and wheel covers are coatedwith a clear coat paint finish. To maintaintheir condition we recommend that you:
•Clean the wheels weekly usingMotorcraft Wheel and Tire Cleaner. Applyusing manufacturer's instructions.
•Use a sponge to remove heavy depositsof dirt and brake dust accumulation.
•Rinse thoroughly with a strong stream ofwater when you have completed thecleaning process.
•To remove tar and grease, use MotorcraftBug and Tar Remover.
VEHICLE STORAGE
If you plan on storing your vehicle for 30days or more, read the followingmaintenance recommendations to make sureyour vehicle stays in good operatingcondition.
We engineer and test all motor vehicles andtheir components for reliable, regular driving.Under various conditions, long-term storagemay lead to degraded engine performanceor failure unless you use specific precautionsto preserve engine components.
General
•Store all vehicles in a dry, ventilatedplace.
•Protect from sunlight, if possible.
•If vehicles are stored outside, theyrequire regular maintenance to protectagainst rust and damage.
Body
•Wash your vehicle thoroughly to removedirt, grease, oil, tar or mud from exteriorsurfaces, rear-wheel housing and theunderside of front fenders.
•Periodically wash your vehicle if it isstored in exposed locations.
•Touch-up exposed or primed metal toprevent rust.
•Cover chrome and stainless steel partswith a thick coat of auto wax to preventdiscoloration. Re-wax as necessary whenyou wash your vehicle.
•Lubricate all hood, door and luggagecompartment hinges and latches with alight grade oil.

Note:If you overfill the tire, release airby pressing on the metal stem in thecenter of the valve. Then recheck thepressure with your tire gauge.
4. Replace the valve cap.
5. Repeat this procedure for each tire, including the spare.
Note:Some spare tires operate at ahigher inflation pressure than the othertires. For T type mini-spare tires, see theDissimilar Spare Wheel and TireAssembly section. Store and maintainat 60 psi (4.15 bar). For full-size anddissimilar spare tires, see the DissimilarSpare Wheel and Tire AssemblyInformation section. Store and maintainat the higher of the front and rearinflation pressure as shown on the Tire
Label.
6. Visually inspect the tires to make surethere are no nails or other objectsembedded that could poke a hole in thetire and cause an air leak.
7. Check the sidewalls to make surethere are no gouges, cuts or bulges.
Inspecting Your Tires and Wheel ValveStems
Periodically inspect the tire treads foruneven or excessive wear and removeobjects such as stones, nails or glassthat may be wedged in the treadgrooves. Check the tire and valve stemsfor holes, cracks, or cuts that may permitair leakage and repair or replace the tireand replace the valve stem. Inspect thetire sidewalls for cracking, cuts, bruisesand other signs of damage or excessivewear. If internal damage to the tire issuspected, have the tire demounted andinspected in case it needs to be repairedor replaced. For your safety, tires thatare damaged or show signs of excessivewear should not be used because theyare more likely to blow out or fail.
Improper or inadequate vehiclemaintenance can cause tires to wearabnormally. Inspect all your tires, including the spare, frequently, andreplace them if one or more of thefollowing conditions exist:
Tire Wear
When the tread is worn down to onesixteenth of an inch (2 millimeters), tiresmust be replaced to help prevent yourvehicle from skidding and hydroplaning.Built-in treadwear indicators, or wearbars, which look like narrow strips ofsmooth rubber across the tread willappear on the tire when the tread isworn down to one sixteenth of an inch(2 millimeters).
When the tire tread wears down to thesame height as these wear bars, the tire
is worn out and must be replaced.
