When trouble arises
Securely attach an elastic towing
rope to the towing hooks.
Take care not to damage the vehicle
body.
Enter the vehicle being towed and start the engine.
If the engine does not start, turn th e engine switch to IGNITION ON mode.
Set the four-wheel drive control switch in H4 and push the center differential
lock/unlock switch to unlock the center differential. (→P. 342)
For models with the rear height cont rol air suspension: Change the vehicle
height to N (normal) mode and end th e vehicle height control operation.

Shift the shift lever to N and release the parking brake.
When the shift lever cannot be shifted: →P. 198
■While towing
If the engine is not running, the power assist for the brakes and steering will not function,
making steering and br aking more difficult.

If you have a flat tire
●Stop the vehicle in a safe pl
ace on a hard, flat surface.
●Set the parking brake.
●Shift the shift lever to P.
●Turn off the rear height control air suspension (if equipped). (→P. 337)
●Stop the engine.
●Turn on the emergency flashers. ( →P. 510)
Your vehicle is equipped with a spare tire. The flat tire can be replaced with
the spare tire.

CAUTION
■If you have a flat tire
Do not continue driving with a flat tire.
Driving even a short distance with a flat ti re can damage the tire and the wheel beyond
repair, which could re sult in an accident.

When trouble arises
One of the following may be the cause of the problem:
●One or both of the battery terminals may be disconnected.
●The battery may be discharged. ( →P. 561)
●There may be a malfunction in the steering lock system.
Contact your Lexus dealer if the problem cannot be repaired, or if repair procedures
are unknown.
When the engine does not start, the follo wing steps can be used as an interim
measure to start the engine if the engine switch is functioning normally.
Set the parking brake.
Put the shift lever in P.
Set the engine switch to the ACCESSORY mode.
Push and hold the engine switch for about 15 seconds while depressing the
brake pedal firmly.
Even if the engine can be started using the above steps, the system may be mal-
functioning. Have the vehicle in spected by your Lexus dealer.
The starter motor does not turn over, the interior lights and headlights
do not turn on, or the horn does not sound.

If the vehicle becomes stuck
Stop the engine. Set the parking brake and shift the shift lever to P.
Remove the mud, snow or sand from around the stuck tire.
Place wood, stones or some other mate rial under the tires to help provide
traction.
Restart the engine.
Lock the center differential. (→ P. 343)
Shift the shift lever to the D or R positi on and release the parking brake. Then,
while exercising caution, depress the accelerator pedal.
■When it is difficult to free the vehicle
Turn off TRAC or Active TRAC/VSC/Trailer Sway Control if these functions are ham-
pering your attempts to free the vehicle. ( →P. 353)
Carry out the following procedures if the tires spin or the vehicle becomes
stuck in mud, dirt, or snow:
Press to turn off TRAC or Active TRAC/VSC/
Trailer Sway Control.

Customizable features
■Changing by using the menu switch and the “ENTER” switch
When customizing vehicle features, ensure that the vehicle is parked in a safe
place with the shift lever in
P and the parking brake set.
Press and hold the menu switch to display customization mode. (→ P. 87)
Press the “ENTER” switch upwards or downwards to select the item to be
customized.
Press the “ENTER” switch to confirm.
Press the “ENTER” switch upwards or downwards to select the desired set-
ting for the item being customized.
Press the “ENTER” switch to confirm.
When customization is completed, pre ss the menu switch to clear the cus-
tomization screen.
■Changing by using the multimedia system or navigation system
Press the “SETUP” button on the multim edia system or navigation system.
Select “Vehicle” on the “Setup” screen and select “Vehicle Customization”.
Various setting can be changed. Refer to the list of settings that can be
changed for details.
Your vehicle includes a variety of elec tronic features that can be personalized
to suit your preferences. The settings of these features can be changed by
using the steering wheel switches, the multimedia system or navigation sys-
tem or at your Lexus dealer.
It is also possible to customize certain vehicle features yourself using the
menu switch and the “ENTER” switch.
