Light Switches
Rotating the light switch turns the lights on
and off, regardless of the power mode
setting.
■High beams
Push the lever forward until you hear a click.
■Low beams
When in high beams, pull the lever back to
return to low beams.
■Flashing the high beams
Pull the lever back, and release it.
■Manual Operation1 Light Switches
If you leave the power mode in VEHICLE OFF (LOCK)
with the lights on, a light on reminder chime sounds
when you open the driver’s door.
If you sense that the le vel of the headlights is
abnormal, have your vehicle inspected by a dealer.
Do not leave the lights on when the engine is off
because it will cause the battery to discharge.
Your vehicle is equipped with the automatic
headlight adjusting system that automatically adjusts
the vertical angle of the high/low beam headlights. If
you find a significant change in the vertical angle of
the headlights, there may be a problem with the
system. Have your vehicle checked by a dealer.

uuOperating the Switches Around the Steering Wheel uAuto High-Beam System*
Controls
■To manually cancel th e system temporarily
You can cancel the operation when you ma nually change the headlights to high
beams. Push the lever forward until you hear a click, or lightly pull the lever towards
you to flash high beams. The auto hi gh-beam system indicator goes off.
If you want the auto high-beam system operation to resume at once, pull the lever
towards you.
Disable the system when the vehicle is parked
with the power mode in ON and the light
switch is in the AUTO position.
To disable the system: Pull the light switch
lever towards you and hold it for 40 seconds.
The auto high-beam indica tor in the meter will
blink twice.
To enable the system: Pull the light switch
lever towards you and hold it for 30 seconds.
The auto high-beam indica tor in the meter will
blink once.
Enabling high sensitivity: Pull the light
switch lever towards you and hold it for 90
seconds. The auto high -beam indicator in the
meter will blink five times. When the power
mode is set to VEHICLE OFF (LOCK), sensitivity
is returned to normal.
■To Disable the System

If the Can Not Operate: message appears:
Park your vehicle in a safe place. Wipe away debris
blocking the windshield, then start driving again. If
the message remains on even after driving for a while
with the clean windshield, have your vehicle checked
by a dealer.

The auto high-beam system will remain in the
selected disabled or enab led setting each time you
start the engine.

Driving Preparation
Check the following items before you start driving.
• Make sure there are no obstructions on th e windows, door mirrors, exterior
lights, or other parts of the vehicle.
u Remove any frost, snow, or ice.
u Remove any snow on the roof, as this can slip down and obstruct your field of
vision while driving. If frozen solid , remove ice once it has softened.
u When removing ice from around the wheel s, be sure not to damage the wheel
or wheel components.
• Make sure the hood is securely closed.
u If the hood opens while driving, your front view will be blocked.
• Make sure the tires are in good condition.
u Check air pressure, check for damage and excessive wear.

•Make sure there are no people or ob jects behind or around the vehicle.
u There are blind spots from the inside.
■Exterior Checks1Exterior Checks
NOTICE
When doors are frozen s hut, use warm water around
the door edges to melt any ice. Do not try to force
them open, as this can damage the rubber trim
around the doors. When done, wipe dry to avoid
further freezing.
Do not pour warm water into the key cylinder.
You will be unable to insert the key if the water
freezes in the hole.
Heat from the engine and exhaust can ignite
flammable material s left under the hood, causing a
fire. If you’ve parked y our vehicle for an extended
period, inspect and remove any debris that may have
collected, such as dried grass and leaves that have
fallen or have been carried in for use as a nest by a
small animal. Also check under the hood for leftover
flammable materials after you or someone else has
performed maintenance on your vehicle.
