WARNING
Do not connect wireless plug-indevices to the data link connector.Unauthorized third parties could gainaccess to vehicle data and impair theperformance of safety related systems.Only allow repair facilities that follow ourservice and repair instructions to connecttheir equipment to the data link connector.
Your vehicle has an OBD Data LinkConnector (DLC) that is used inconjunction with a diagnostic scan tool forvehicle diagnostics, repairs andreprogramming services. Installing anaftermarket device that uses the DLCduring normal driving for purposes such asremote insurance company monitoring,transmission of vehicle data to otherdevices or entities, or altering theperformance of the vehicle, may causeinterference with or even damage tovehicle systems. We do not recommendor endorse the use of aftermarket plug-indevices unless approved by Ford. Thevehicle Warranty will not cover damagecaused by an aftermarket plug-in device.

Using mobile communications equipmentis becoming increasingly important in theconduct of business and personal affairs.However, you must not compromise yourown or others’ safety when using suchequipment. Mobile communications canenhance personal safety and security whenappropriately used, particularly inemergency situations. Safety must beparamount when using mobilecommunications equipment to avoidnegating these benefits. Mobilecommunication equipment includes, butis not limited to, cellular phones, pagers,portable email devices, text messagingdevices and portable two-way radios.

Introduction

Remote Start (If Equipped)
WARNING
To avoid exhaust fumes, do not useremote start if your vehicle is parkedindoors or in areas that are not wellventilated.
Note:Do not use remote start if your fuellevel is low.
The remote start button is on thetransmitter.
This feature allows you to start yourvehicle from the outside. The remotecontrol has an extended operating range.
If your vehicle has automatic climatecontrol, you can configure it to operatewhen you remote start your vehicle. SeeClimate Control (page 119). A manualclimate control system will run at thesetting it was set to when you switchedyour vehicle off.
Many states and provinces haverestrictions for the use of remote start.Check your local and state or provinciallaws for specific requirements regardingremote start systems.
The remote start system does not workwhen any of the following conditions occur:
•The ignition is on.
•The anti-theft alarm triggers.
•You switch the feature off in theinformation display.
•The hood is open.
•The transmission is not in park (P).
•The battery voltage is below theminimum operating voltage.

Remote Starting your Vehicle
Note: You must press each button withinthree seconds of each other. Your vehiclewill not remote start if you do not follow thissequence.

To remote start your vehicle:
1. Press the lock button to lock all thedoors.
2. Press the remote start button twice.The exterior lamps flash twice.
The horn sounds if the system fails to start.

DAYTIME RUNNING LAMPS (If

WARNING
The daytime running lamps systemdoes not activate the rear lamps andmay not provide adequate lightingduring low visibility driving conditions.Make sure you switch the headlamps on,as appropriate, during all low visibilityconditions. Failure to do so may result in acrash.
Type One - Conventional (Non-Configurable)
The daytime running lamps turn on when:
1. Switching the ignition on.
2. The transmission is not in park (P) forvehicles with automatic transmissions,or releasing the parking brake forvehicles with manual transmissions.
3.The lighting control is in the off, parkinglamp or autolamps positions.
4. The headlamps are off.
Type Two - Configurable
Switch the daytime running lamps on oroff using the information display. SeeInformation Displays (page 97).
The daytime running lamps turn on when:
1. The lamps are on in the informationdisplay.
2. Switching the ignition on.
3. The transmission is not in park (P) forvehicles with automatic transmissions,or releasing the parking brake forvehicles with manual transmissions.
4.The lighting control is in the autolampsposition.
5. The headlamps are off.

Information Displays

You must complete the refueling processwithin 20 minutes. If 20 minutes elapses,you must press the button on the driverdoor again. Fuel pump nozzle automaticshut off may occur if you do not press thebutton on the driver door.
System Warnings
If the fuel filler door fails to open, aninformation message appears in theinformation display.
Description and ActionMessage
A warning message appearsin the information displaywhen the fuel system failsto depressurize or the fuelfiller door fails to open. Youmay have to use the fuelfiller door manual overridelever.
RefuelError SeeManual
If the information message appears, do thefollowing:
1. Check the fuel filler door for anythingthat may be obstructing its movement,for example ice or snow.
2. Remove any obstruction from the fuelfiller door.
3. Press the button on the driver door toopen the fuel filler door.
4. If the fuel filler door fails to open andthe information message remains inthe information display, use the fuelfiller door manual override lever.

Note:The transmission must be in park (P)or neutral (N).
When using the manual override lever dothe following:
1. Switch the ignition on.
2. Open the luggage compartment, themanual override lever is located on theleft-hand side.
3. Pull the manual override lever.
4. Switch the ignition off.
5. Complete the refueling process within20 minutes.
FUEL CONSUMPTION
The advertised capacity is the maximumamount of fuel that you can add to the fueltank after running out of fuel. Included inthe advertised capacity is an emptyreserve. The empty reserve is anunspecified amount of fuel that remainsin the fuel tank when the fuel gaugeindicates empty.
Note:The amount of fuel in the emptyreserve varies and should not be relied uponto increase driving range.
Fuel Economy
Your vehicle calculates fuel economyfigures through the trip computer averagefuel function. See General Information(page 97).
The first 1,000 mi (1,500 km) of driving isthe break-in period of the engine. A moreaccurate measurement is obtained after2,000 mi (3,000 km).

•You take corners too fast.
•The road surface is poor.
Note: If the system activates, the brakepedal may pulse and may travel further.Maintain pressure on the brake pedal. Youmay also hear a noise from the system. Thisis normal.
ELECTRIC PARKING BRAKE
The electric parking brake replaces theconventional handbrake. The operatingswitch is in the center console.
WARNINGS
Always set the parking brake andleave your vehicle with thetransmission in park (P).
If your vehicle has a manualtransmission, shift into first or reversegear. If your vehicle has an automatictransmission, shift into park (P).
Note:When you apply the electric parkingbrake in certain conditions, for example ona steep hill, the electric parking brake mayreapply the brakes within three to tenminutes.
Note:You may notice various noises whenyou apply and release the electric parkingbrake. This is normal and no cause forconcern.
Parking On a Hill (Vehicles With aManual Transmission)
If you park your vehicle facing uphill, movethe transmission to first gear (1) and turnthe steering wheel away from the curb. Ifyou park your vehicle facing downhill, movethe transmission to reverse (R) and turnthe steering wheel toward the curb.
Applying the Electric Parkingbrake
WARNINGS
The brake system warning lamp willflash when applying the electricparking brake. If the brake systemwarning lamp continues to flash therecould be a problem with your electricparking brake. Have your vehicle checkedas soon as possible.
Applying the electric parking brakewhile moving will result in theengagement of the anti-lock brakingsystem. Do not use the electric parkingbrake system when the vehicle is movingunless the normal brake system is unableto stop the vehicle.
With the exception of emergencyconditions (for example, the brakepedal is broken or is blocked), do notapply the electric parking brake while thevehicle is moving. On bends, or poor roadsurfaces or weather conditions, emergencybraking can cause the vehicle to skid outof control or off the road.
Note:The brake system warning lampilluminates for ten seconds if you switch theignition off after you apply the electricparking brake, or you apply the electricparking brake after you switch the ignitionoff.
Note:The electric parking brake will notautomatically apply. You must apply theelectric parking brake using the electricparking brake switch.

Brakes

Pull the switch up to apply the electricparking brake.
The brake system warning lamp flashesfor about two seconds and thenilluminates to confirm that you haveapplied the electric parking brake. SeeInformation Displays (page 97).
If you apply the electric parking brake whenyour vehicle is moving, the brake systemwarning lamp illuminates and a warningchime sounds. See Information Displays(page 97).
If your vehicle speed is above 4 mph(6 km/h), the braking force is applied aslong as you pull the switch. Releasing orpressing the switch or pressing theaccelerator pedal stops the braking force.
Releasing the Electric ParkingBrake
You can release the electric parking brakeeither manually by pressing the switch orautomatically.
Manual release
WARNING
If the brake system warning lightremains illuminated or flashes formore than four seconds after youhave released the parking brake, therecould be a problem with your brakingsystem. Have your vehicle checked as soonas possible.
You can manually release the electricparking brake by:
1. Switching the ignition on.
2. Pressing the brake pedal.
3. Pressing the electric parking brakeswitch.
When the electric parking brake is released,the brake system warning lamp turns off.
Automatic release - drive away release
Your vehicle automatically releases theparking brake if all of the followingconditions exist:
•You close the driver door (automatictransmission only).
•You press the accelerator pedal andrelease the clutch pedal.
•There are no faults detected in theparking brake system.
