TAILGATE
WARNINGS
It is extremely dangerous to ride in acargo area, inside or outside of avehicle. In a crash, people riding inthese areas are more likely to be seriouslyinjured or killed. Do not allow people to ridein any area of your vehicle that is notequipped with seats and seatbelts. Makesure everyone in your vehicle is in a seatand properly using a seatbelt. Failure tofollow this warning could result in seriouspersonal injury or death.
Make sure that you fully close thetailgate to prevent exhaust fumesfrom entering your vehicle. If you areunable to fully close the tailgate, open theair vents or the windows to allow fresh airto enter your vehicle. Failure to follow thisinstruction could result in personal injuryor death.
Make sure that you fully close thetailgate to prevent passengers andcargo from falling out. Failure tofollow this instruction could result inpersonal injury or death.
Note:Be careful when opening or closingthe tailgate in a garage or other enclosedarea to avoid damaging the tailgate.
Opening the Tailgate

Note:Vehicle without Intelligent Access,you must unlock your vehicle in order toopen the tailgate.
Note:Vehicle with Intelligent Access youcan unlock your vehicle in order to open thetailgate or if an intelligent access key iswithin 3.3 ft (1 m) of the tailgate, thetailgate unlocks when you press the tailgaterelease button even if the vehicle is locked.
Note:For vehicles with a spare wheel, whenyou unlatch the tailgate and pull the exteriorhandle, the mechanism fully opens thetailgate. When closing, the mechanismslowly closes the tailgate.
Press the release button located on thetailgate right-hand tail lamp.

Closing the Tailgate
If you had unlocked your vehicle prior toopening the tailgate, it will remainunlocked when you close the tailgate. Ifthe vehicle was locked and you opened thetailgate by approaching the vehicle withthe passive key, when the tailgate is closedthe vehicle will remain locked.

1.Open the floor console storagecompartment lid.
2.Remove the tray.
3.Place the key into the backup slot.
4.Press the push button ignition switch.
5.Wait five seconds and then press thepush button ignition switch again.
6.Remove the intelligent access key.
7.Within 10 seconds, place a secondprogrammed intelligent access key inthe backup slot and press the pushbutton ignition switch.
8.Wait five seconds and then press thepush button ignition switch again.
9.Remove the intelligent access key.
10.Wait five seconds, then place theunprogrammed intelligent access keyin the backup slot and press the pushbutton ignition switch.
Programming is now complete. Check thatthe remote control functions operate andyour vehicle starts with the new intelligentaccess key.
If programming was unsuccessful, wait 10seconds and repeat steps 1 through 6. If itstill does not work, take your vehicle to anauthorized dealer.
ANTI-THEFT ALARM

Perimeter Alarm (if equipped)
The perimeter alarm is a deterrent againstunauthorized access to your vehiclethrough the doors and the hood.
Triggering the Alarm
Once armed, the alarm is triggered in anyof the following ways:
•If someone opens a door, the tailgateor the hood without a valid key orremote control.
•If someone switches your vehicle onwithout a correctly coded key.

Reading Lamps
1.Carefully remove the lamp.
2.Turn the bulb holder counterclockwiseand remove it.
3.Remove the bulb.

1.Position the visor down.
2.Carefully remove the lamp.

4.Remove the bulb.

Note:The spare wheel is located on thetailgate.
To remove the spare wheel, loosen andremove the locking nut using the lugwrench and the spare wheel lock key.Loosen and remove the remaining lug nutssecuring the spare wheel to the tailgate.
Jacking and Lifting Points
WARNING
Use only the specified jacking points.If you use other positions, you maydamage the body, steering,suspension, engine, braking system or thefuel lines.
Locate the vehicle jacking points.Small arrow-shaped marksindicate the locations.

Removing a Road Wheel
WARNINGS
Park your vehicle in such a positionthat neither the traffic nor you arehindered or endangered.
Park your vehicle so that you do notobstruct the flow of traffic or placeyourself in any danger and set up awarning triangle.
Make sure that your vehicle is on firmand level ground with the frontwheels pointing straight ahead.
Switch the ignition off and apply theparking brake.
If your vehicle has a manualtransmission, shift into first or reversegear. If your vehicle has an automatictransmission, shift into park (P).
Make sure all passengers are out ofyour vehicle.
Secure the diagonally oppositewheel with an appropriate block orwheel chock.
Make sure that the arrows ondirectional tires point in the directionof rotation when your vehicle ismoving forward. If you have to fit a sparetire with the arrows pointing in the oppositedirection have the tire refitted as soon aspossible.
Do not work on your vehicle whenthe jack is the only support. If thevehicle slips off the jack, you orsomeone else could be seriously injured.
Make sure that the vehicle jack isvertical to the jacking point and thebase is flat on the ground.
1.Loosen each wheel lug nut one-halfturn counterclockwise, but do notremove them.
