2018 FORD ECOSPORT seats

The system consists of the following:
•Safety Canopy curtain airbags abovethe trim panels over the front and rearside windows identified by a label orwording on the headliner or roof-pillartrim.
•A flexible headliner which opens abovethe side doors to allow air curtaindeployment
· Crash sensors and monitoringsystem with a readinessindicator. See Crash Sensorsand Airbag Indicator (page 43).
Properly restrain children 12 years old andunder in the rear seats. The Safety Canopywill not interfere with children restrainedusing a properly installed child or boosterseat because it is designed to inflatedownward from the headliner above thedoors along the side window opening.
The design and development of the SafetyCanopy included recommended testingprocedures that were developed by agroup of automotive safety experts knownas the Side Airbag Technical WorkingGroup. These recommended testingprocedures help reduce the risk of injuriesrelated to the deployment of side airbags(including the Safety Canopy).
CRASH SENSORS AND
AIRBAG INDICATOR
WARNING
Modifying or adding equipment tothe front end of your vehicle(including hood, bumper system,frame, front end body structure, tow hooksand hood pins) may affect theperformance of the airbag system,increasing the risk of injury. Do not modifyor add equipment to the front end of yourvehicle.
Your vehicle has a collection of crash andoccupant sensors which provideinformation to the restraints controlmodule. The restraints control moduledeploys (activates) the front seatbeltpretensioners, driver airbag, passengerairbag, knee airbag(s), seat mounted sideairbags and Safety Canopy airbags. Basedon the type of crash, the restraints controlmodule deploys the appropriate safetydevices.
The restraints control module alsomonitors the readiness of the above safetydevices plus the crash and occupantsensors. The readiness of the safetysystem is indicated by a warning indicatorlight in the instrument cluster or by abackup tone if the warning light is notworking. Routine maintenance of theairbag is not required.
A difficulty with the system is indicated byone or more of the following:

TAILGATE
WARNINGS
It is extremely dangerous to ride in acargo area, inside or outside of avehicle. In a crash, people riding inthese areas are more likely to be seriouslyinjured or killed. Do not allow people to ridein any area of your vehicle that is notequipped with seats and seatbelts. Makesure everyone in your vehicle is in a seatand properly using a seatbelt. Failure tofollow this warning could result in seriouspersonal injury or death.
Make sure that you fully close thetailgate to prevent exhaust fumesfrom entering your vehicle. If you areunable to fully close the tailgate, open theair vents or the windows to allow fresh airto enter your vehicle. Failure to follow thisinstruction could result in personal injuryor death.
Make sure that you fully close thetailgate to prevent passengers andcargo from falling out. Failure tofollow this instruction could result inpersonal injury or death.
Note:Be careful when opening or closingthe tailgate in a garage or other enclosedarea to avoid damaging the tailgate.

Note:Vehicle without Intelligent Access,you must unlock your vehicle in order toopen the tailgate.
Note:Vehicle with Intelligent Access youcan unlock your vehicle in order to open thetailgate or if an intelligent access key iswithin 3.3 ft (1 m) of the tailgate, thetailgate unlocks when you press the tailgaterelease button even if the vehicle is locked.
Note:For vehicles with a spare wheel, whenyou unlatch the tailgate and pull the exteriorhandle, the mechanism fully opens thetailgate. When closing, the mechanismslowly closes the tailgate.
Press the release button located on thetailgate right-hand tail lamp.

You can adjust the temperature between59.9–85.1°F (15.5–29.5°C) in smallincrements.
When set to low temperatures, the systemswitches to permanent cooling. When setto high temperatures , the system switchesto permanent heating.

Note:To reduce humidity build-up insideyour vehicle, do not drive with the systemswitched off or with recirculated air alwaysswitched on.
Note:Prolonged use of recirculated air maycause the windows to fog up.
Note: Adjusting the settings when yourvehicle interior is extremely hot or cold isnot necessary. The system automaticallyadjusts to heat or cool the interior to yourselected temperature as quickly as possible.For the system to function efficiently, theinstrument panel and side air vents shouldbe fully open.
Note:When you select automatic modeand the ambient temperature is low and theengine is cold, airflow is directed to thewindshield and side air vents.
Note:When you select automatic modeand the interior and exterior temperaturesare high, the system selects recirculated airto maximize cooling. When the desiredtemperature is reached, recirculated airturns off.
Note:When you switch the system off,outside air is prevented from entering yourvehicle.
Note:When you select maximum defrost,air conditioning turns on and airflow is notdirected to the instrument panel andfootwell air vents.

SITTING IN THE CORRECT
POSITION
WARNINGS
Do not recline the seatback too faras this can cause the occupant toslide under the seatbelt, resulting inserious injury in the event of a collision.
Do not place objects higher than thetop of the seat backrest. Failure tofollow this instruction could result inpersonal injury or death in the event of asudden stop or crash.
When you use them properly, the seat,head restraint, safety belt and airbags willprovide optimum protection in the eventof a crash.
We recommend that you follow theseguidelines:
•Sit in an upright position with the baseof your spine as far back as possible.
•Do not recline the seatback more than30 degrees.
•Adjust the head restraint so that thetop of it is level with the top of yourhead and as far forward as possible.Make sure that you remaincomfortable.
•Keep sufficient distance betweenyourself and the steering wheel. Werecommend a minimum of 10 in(25 cm) between your breastbone andthe airbag cover.
•Hold the steering wheel with your armsslightly bent.
•Bend your legs slightly so that you canpress the pedals fully.
•Position the shoulder strap of thesafety belt over the center of yourshoulder and position the lap straptightly across your hips.
Make sure that your driving position iscomfortable and that you can maintain fullcontrol of your vehicle.
HEAD RESTRAINTS
WARNINGS
Fully adjust the head restraint beforeyou sit in or operate your vehicle. Thiswill help minimize the risk of neckinjury in the event of a crash. Do not adjustthe head restraint when your vehicle ismoving.
The head restraint is a safety device.Whenever possible it should beinstalled and properly adjusted whenthe seat is occupied. Failure to adjust thehead restraint properly could reduce itseffectiveness during certain impacts.
Adjust the head restraints for allpassengers before you drive yourvehicle. This will help minimize therisk of neck injury in the event of a crash.Do not adjust the head restraints whenyour vehicle is moving.

Note:Adjust the seatback to an uprightdriving position before adjusting the headrestraint. Installing the Head Restraint
Align the steel stems into the guide sleevesand push the head restraint down until itlocks.
Folding the Head Restraint
1.Press and hold button E.
2.Pull the head restraint back up to reset.
Tilting Head Restraints
The front head restraints tilt for extracomfort. To tilt the head restraint, do thefollowing:
1.Adjust the seatback to an uprightdriving or riding position.
2.Pivot the head restraint forward towardyour head to the desired position.
After the head restraint reaches theforward-most tilt position, pivot it forwardagain to release it to the rearward, un-tiltedposition.
MANUAL SEATS
WARNINGS
Do not adjust the driver seat or seatbackrest when your vehicle ismoving. This may result in suddenseat movement, causing the loss of controlof your vehicle.
Do not recline the seatback too faras this can cause the occupant toslide under the seatbelt, resulting inserious injury in the event of a collision.
Do not place cargo or any objectsbehind the seat backrest beforereturning it to the original position.Pull on the seat backrest to make sure thatit has fully latched after returning the seatbackrest to its original position. Anunlatched seat may become dangerous ifyou stop suddenly or have a crash.
Make sure the seat fully locks intoplace by rocking it backward andforward. Not securing the seat intothe locked position can be dangerous in acrash and could cause serious personalinjury or death.
