On Board Diagnostics Data LinkConnector
WARNING
Do not connect wireless plug-indevices to the data link connector.Unauthorized third parties could gainaccess to vehicle data and impair theperformance of safety related systems.Only allow repair facilities that follow ourservice and repair instructions to connecttheir equipment to the data link connector.
Your vehicle has an OBD Data LinkConnector (DLC) that is used inconjunction with a diagnostic scan tool forvehicle diagnostics, repairs andreprogramming services. Installing anaftermarket device that uses the DLCduring normal driving for purposes such asremote insurance company monitoring,transmission of vehicle data to otherdevices or entities, or altering theperformance of the vehicle, may causeinterference with or even damage tovehicle systems. We do not recommendor endorse the use of aftermarket plug-indevices unless approved by Ford. Thevehicle Warranty will not cover damagecaused by an aftermarket plug-in device.

Using your Vehicle as anAmbulance
If your light truck has the Ford AmbulancePreparation Package, it may be utilized asan ambulance. Ford urges ambulancemanufacturers to follow therecommendations of the Ford IncompleteVehicle Manual, Ford Truck Body Builder’sLayout Book and the Qualified VehicleModifiers (QVM) Guidelines as well aspertinent supplements. Use of your Ford light truck as anambulance, without the Ford AmbulancePreparation Package voids the Ford NewVehicle Limited Warranty and may voidthe emissions warranties. In addition,ambulance usage without the preparationpackage could cause high underbodytemperatures, over-pressurized fuel and arisk of spraying fuel, which could lead tofires.
If your vehicle has the Ford AmbulancePreparation Package, it will be indicatedon the Safety Compliance CertificationLabel. The label is on the driver side doorpillar or on the rear edge of the driver door.You can determine whether theambulance manufacturer followed Ford’srecommendations by directly contactingthat manufacturer.

necessary to remove the remainingslack that will exist once the extraweight of the child is added to the childrestraint. It also helps to achieve theproper snugness of the child seat toyour vehicle. Sometimes, a slight leantoward the buckle will help to removeremaining slack from the belt.
9.Attach the tether strap (if the child seatis equipped).
10. Before placing the child in the seat,forcibly move the seat forward andback to make sure the seat is securelyheld in place.
To check this, grab the seat at the belt pathand attempt to move it side to side andforward and back. There should be nomore than 1 inch (2.5 centimeters) ofmovement for proper installation.
We recommend checking with a NHTSACertified Child Passenger SafetyTechnician to make certain the childrestraint is properly installed. In Canada,check with Transport Canada for referralto a Child Car Seat Clinic.
Using Tether Straps
Many forward-facing child safety seatsinclude a tether strap which extends fromthe back of the child safety seat and hooksto an anchoring point called the top tetheranchor. Tether straps are available as anaccessory for many older safety seats.Contact the manufacturer of your childseat for information about ordering atether strap, or to obtain a longer tetherstrap if the tether strap on your safety seatdoes not reach the appropriate top tetheranchor in the vehicle.
Attach the tether strap only to the tetheranchor as shown. The tether strap may notwork properly if attached somewhere otherthan the correct tether anchor.
Note:Do not tighten the tether strapenough to lift the child seat off the vehicleseat cushion when the child is seated in it.Keep the tether strap just snug withoutlifting the front of the child seat. Keepingthe child seat just touching the vehicle seatgives the best protection in a severe crash.
Perform the following steps to install achild safety seat with tether anchors:

PRINCIPLE OF OPERATION
WARNINGS
Always drive and ride with the seatbackrest upright and the lap beltsnug and low across the hips.
To reduce the risk of injury, makesure children sit where they can beproperly restrained.
Never let a passenger hold a child onhis or her lap while your vehicle ismoving. The passenger cannotprotect the child from injury in a crashwhich may result in serious injury or death.
All occupants of the vehicle,including the driver, should alwaysproperly wear their safety belts, evenwhen an airbag supplemental restraintsystem is provided. Failure to properly wearyour safety belt could seriously increasethe risk of injury or death.
It is extremely dangerous to ride in acargo area, inside or outside of avehicle. In a crash, people riding inthese areas are more likely to be seriouslyinjured or killed. Do not allow people to ridein any area of your vehicle that is notequipped with seats and safety belts. Besure everyone in your vehicle is in a seatand using a safety belt properly.
In a rollover crash, an unbeltedperson is significantly more likely todie than a person wearing a safetybelt.
Each seating position in your vehiclehas a specific safety belt assemblywhich is made up of one buckle andone tongue that are designed to be usedas a pair. 1) Use the shoulder belt on theoutside shoulder only. Never wear theshoulder belt under the arm. 2) Neverswing the safety belt around your neck overthe inside shoulder. 3) Never use a singlebelt for more than one person.
WARNINGS
When possible, all children 12 yearsold and under should be properlyrestrained in a rear seating position.Failure to follow this could seriouslyincrease the risk of injury or death.
Safety belts and seats can becomehot in a vehicle that has been closedup in sunny weather; they could burna small child. Check seat covers andbuckles before you place a child anywherenear them.
Front and rear seat occupants,including pregnant women, shouldwear safety belts for optimumprotection in an accident.
All seating positions in this vehicle havelap and shoulder safety belts. Alloccupants of the vehicle should alwaysproperly wear their safety belts, even whenan airbag supplemental restraint systemis provided.
The safety belt system consists of:
•Lap and shoulder safety belts.
•Shoulder safety belt with automaticlocking mode, (except driver safetybelt).
•Height adjuster at the front outboardseating positions.
•Safety belt pretensioner at the frontoutboard seating positions.
•Safety belt warning light and chime.
•Crash sensors and monitoring systemwith readiness indicator.

Adjust the height of the shoulder belt sothe belt rests across the middle of yourshoulder.
To adjust the shoulder belt height:
1. Press the button and slide the heightadjuster up or down.
2. Release the button and pull down onthe height adjuster to make sure it islocked in place.

Inspect the vehicle seatbelts and childrestraint systems periodically to make surethey work properly and are not damaged.Inspect the vehicle seatbelts to make surethere are no nicks, tears or cuts. Replace ifnecessary. All vehicle seatbelt assemblies,including retractors, buckles, front seatbeltbuckle assemblies, buckle supportassemblies (slide bar-if equipped),shoulder belt height adjusters (if
equipped), shoulder belt guide on seatback(if equipped), rear inflatable seatbelts (ifequipped), child restraint LATCH andtether anchors, and attaching hardware,should be inspected after a crash. Readthe child restraint manufacturer'sinstructions for additional inspection andmaintenance information specific to thechild restraint.
