(●) Obligatory operations (5) For 1.4 T-jet LPG versions, to guarantee correct operation and prevent serious damage to the engine, it is essential to proceed as follows: only usespark plugs
specifically certified for these engines; all spark plugs should be of the same type and brand (see the "Engine" paragraph in the "Technical specifications"
chapter); strictly comply with the spark plugs replacement intervals in the Scheduled Servicing Plan. It is advisable to contact a FIAT Dealership for plug
replacement.
(6) This operation must be performed every 15,000 km if the vehicle is used in one of the following countries: Afghanistan, Algeria, Angola, Armenia, Congo,
Ethiopia, Ghana, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Malawi, Mali, Mozambique, Nigeria, Senegal, Syria, Zimbabwe. (3) The maximum mileage is 120,000 km. The belt must be replaced every 6 years, regardless of distance travelled. If the vehicle is used in heavy conditions (dusty
areas, cold climates, urban driving, long periods of idling), the maximum mileage is 60,000 km. The belt must be replaced every 4 years regardless of the
mileage.

154)The cooling system is pressurised. If
the cap needs replacing, do so with
another original or the effectiveness of the
system may be compromised. Do not
remove the reservoir plug when the engine
is hot: you risk scalding yourself.
155)Do not travel if the windscreen
washer reservoir is empty: using the
windscreen washer is essential for
improving visibility. Repeated operation of
the system without fluid could damage or
cause rapid deterioration of some system
components.
156)Some commercial additives for
windscreen washer fluid are flammable.
The engine compartment contains hot
components which may start a fire.
157)Brake fluid is poisonous and highly
corrosive. In the event of accidental
contact, immediately wash the affected
parts with water and mild soap. Then rinse
thoroughly. Call a doctor immediately if
swallowed.
158)The symbol
, on the brake fluid
container indicates if a brake fluid is
synthetic or mineral-based. Use of mineral
type fluids will damage the special rubber
seals of the braking system beyond repair.
159)Battery fluid is poisonous and
corrosive. Avoid contact with the skin and
eyes. Keep open flames away from the
battery and do not use objects that might
create sparks: risk of explosion and fire.
160)Using the battery with insufficient fluid
irreparably damages the battery and may
cause an explosion.
161)When performing any operation on
the battery or near it, always protect your
eyes with special goggles.
IMPORTANT
58)Be careful not to confuse the various
types of fluids while topping up: they are
not compatible with each other! Topping up
with an unsuitable fluid could severely
damage your vehicle.
59)The oil level must never exceed the
MAX. mark.
60)Always top up using engine oil of the
same specifications as that already in the
engine.
61)PARAFLU
UPanti-freeze is used in the
engine cooling system. Use fluid of the
same type as that contained in the cooling
system for any top-ups. PARAFLU
UP
cannot be mixed with any other type of
fluid. If this happens, do not start the
engine under any circumstances and
contact a Fiat Dealership.
62)Prevent brake fluid, which is highly
corrosive, from coming into contact with
painted parts. Should it happen,
immediately wash with water.
63)If the vehicle must remain unused for a
long time at a very low temperature,
remove the battery and take it to a warm
place, to avoid freezing.
64)Incorrect installation of electric and
electronic devices may cause severe
damage to your car. After purchasing your
vehicle, if you wish to install any
accessories (e.g. anti-theft, radio phone,
etc.), go to a Fiat Dealership, which will
suggest the most suitable devices and
advise you whether a higher capacity
battery needs to be installed.
IMPORTANT
2)The used engine oil and the filter that has
been replaced contain substances that are
harmful to the environment. To change the
oil and filters, we advise you to contact a
Fiat Dealership.
3)Used transmission fluid contains
substances that are harmful to the
environment. It is advisable to contact a
Fiat Dealership to have the fluid changed.
4)Batteries contain substances which are
very dangerous for the environment. For
battery replacement, contact a Fiat
Dealership.

IMPORTANT Do not operate the
windscreen wiper with the blades lifted
from the windscreen.
Windscreen washer
The window washer nozzles are fixed
fig. 172. If there is no jet of fluid, firstly
check that there is fluid in the reservoir
(see paragraph “Engine compartment”
in this chapter). Only use the prescribed
fluid; do not use only water.
Then check that the nozzle holes are
not clogged; use a needle to unblock
them if necessary.

exhaust system represents the best
protection against leaks of carbonmonoxide into the passenger
compartment.
AUTOMATIC
TRANSMISSION

Use only a gearbox oil with the same
characteristics as those indicated in the
"Fluids and lubricants" table (see
"Technical specifications" chapter).
Special additives
Do not use any type of additive with the
automatic transmission oil. The
automatic transmission oil is a product
designed specially for this vehicle and
its performance may be compromised
through the use of further additives.
Avoid the use of transmission sealers,
since they may compromise the
efficiency of the automatic transmission
seals.
IMPORTANT Do not use chemicals to
flush the transmission, since this may
damage its components.
Frequency of oil changes
In normal vehicle operating conditions,
it is not necessary to change the
transmission oil.If oil leaks are noticed or irregular
operation of the transmission is
detected, have it checked immediately
at a Fiat Dealership.
IMPORTANT Driving the vehicle with an
insufficient oil level may cause serious
damage to the transmission.
WARNING
162)The air intake system (air cleaner,
rubber hoses, etc.) can be a protection in
the case of blowbacks from the engine. DO
NOT REMOVE this system unless you
need to carry out repair or servicing
operations. Before starting the engine,
ensure that the system has not been
removed: failure to observe this precaution
may result in serious injury.
163)Exhaust emissions are very
dangerous, and may be lethal. They
contain carbon monoxide, a colourless,
odourless gas which can cause fainting
and poisoning if inhaled.
164)The exhaust system may reach high
temperatures and may cause a fire if the
vehicle is parked on flammable material.
Dry grass or leaves can also catch fire if
they come into contact with the exhaust
system. Do not park or use the vehicle in a
place in which the exhaust system might
come into contact with flammable material.
