instructions refer to a garage door
opener, but can be used for other
devices.
Do not use the Universal Remote
system with any garage door opener
that does not have the stop and
reverse feature. This includes any
garage door opener model
manufactured before April 1, 1982.
Read these instructions completely
before programming the Universal
Remote system. It may help to have
another person assist with the
programming process.
Keep the original hand-held
transmitter for use in other vehicles
as well as for future programming.
Erase the programming when vehicle
ownership is terminated. See“Erasing
Universal Remote System Buttons”
later in this section.
To program a garage door opener,
park outside directly in line with and
facing the garage door opener receiver.
Clear all people and objects near the
garage door. Make sure the hand-held transmitter
has a new battery for quick and
accurate transmission of the
radio-frequency signal.
Programming the Universal
Remote System

Programming involves time-sensitive
actions, and may time out causing the
procedure to be repeated.
To program up to three devices:
1. Hold the end of the hand-held transmitter about 3 to 8 cm (1 to
3 in) away from the Universal
Remote system buttons with the
indicator light in view. The
hand-held transmitter was
supplied by the manufacturer of
the garage door opener receiver.
2. At the same time, press and hold both the hand-held transmitter
button and one of the three
Universal Remote system
buttons to be used to operate the
garage door. Do not release either button until the indicator light
changes from a slow to a rapid
flash. Then release both buttons.
Some garage door openers may
require substitution of Step 2
with the procedure under
“Radio
Signals for Canada and Some
Gate Operators” later in this
section.
3. Press and hold the newly programmed Universal Remote
system button for five seconds
while watching the indicator
light and garage door activation.
.If the indicator light stays on
continuously or the garage
door moves when the button
is pressed, then programming
is complete. There is no need
to complete Steps 4–6.
. If the indicator light does not
come on or the garage door
does not move, a second
button press may be
required. For a second time,
press and hold the newly
programmed button for

five seconds. If the light stays
on or the garage door moves,
programming is complete.
. If the indicator light blinks
rapidly for two seconds, then
changes to a solid light and
the garage door does not
move, continue with
programming Steps 4–6.
Learn or Smart Button
4. After completing Steps 1–3, locate the Learn or Smart button
inside the garage on the garage
door opener receiver. The name
and color of the button may vary
by manufacturer.
5. Press and release the Learn or Smart button. Step 6 must be
completed within 30 seconds of
pressing this button. 6. Inside the vehicle, press and hold
the newly programmed Universal
Remote system button for
two seconds and then release it.
If the garage door does not move
or the lamp on the garage door
opener receiver does not flash,
press and hold the same button
a second time for two seconds,
then release it. Again, if the door
does not move or the garage
door lamp does not flash, press
and hold the same button a third
time for two seconds, then
release it.
The Universal Remote system should
now activate the garage door.
Repeat the process for programming
the two remaining buttons.
Radio Signals for Canada and
Some Gate Operators
For questions or programming help,
see www.homelink.com/gm or call
1-800-355-3515. Canadian radio-frequency laws and
some U.S. gate operators require
transmitter signals to time out or quit
after several seconds of transmission.
This may not be long enough for the
Universal Remote system to pick up
the signal during programming.
If the programming did not work,
replace Step 2 under
“Programming
the Universal Remote System ”with
the following:
Press and hold the Universal Remote
system button while pressing and
releasing the hand-held transmitter
button every two seconds until the
signal has been successfully accepted
by the Universal Remote system. The
Universal Remote system indicator
light will flash slowly at first and then
rapidly. Proceed with Step 3 under
“Programming the Universal Remote
System ”to complete.

Universal Remote System
Operation
Using the Universal Remote
System
Press and hold the appropriate
Universal Remote system button for at
least one-half second. The indicator
light will come on while the signal is
being transmitted.
Erasing Universal Remote
System Buttons
Erase all programmed buttons when
vehicle ownership is terminated.
To erase:1. Press and hold the two outside buttons until the indicator light
begins to flash. This should take
about 10 seconds. 2. Release both buttons.
Reprogramming a Single
Universal Remote System Button
To reprogram any of the system
buttons:
1. Press and hold any one of the buttons. Do not release the
button.
2. The indicator light will begin to flash after 20 seconds. Without
releasing the button, proceed
with Step 1 under “Programming
the Universal Remote System.”

display are used to adjust the heating, cooling, and ventilation.

The fan, air delivery mode, air
conditioning, recirculation, driver and
passenger temperatures, Auto, and
Sync settings can be controlled by
touching CLIMATE on the
infotainment Home Page or the
climate control status display.
A selection can then be made on the
front climate control page displayed.
See the infotainment manual.
Climate Control Status Display
The climate control status display
appears briefly when the climate
control buttons on the center stack are adjusted. Touching the quick
status pane opens the climate
application.
Climate Control Function with Stop/
Start (If Equipped)
The climate control system depends
on other vehicle systems for heat and
power input. The climate control
system will balance stop/start
efficiency with air conditioning
comfort and defog operation. Certain
climate control settings can result in
fewer Auto Stops.
The following climate control settings
result in fewer Auto Stops:
.
Defrost mode
. High fan speed settings
. Extreme temperature settings
For maximum air conditioning
comfort, use the stop/start disable
switch. See “Auto Stop/Start ”under
Starting the Engine 0194.

Automatic Operation
The system automatically controls the
fan speed, air delivery, air
conditioning, and recirculation in
order to heat or cool the vehicle to the
desired temperature.
When AUTO is lit, all four functions
operate automatically. Each function
can also be manually set and the
selected setting is displayed.
Functions not manually set will
continue to be automatically
controlled, even if the AUTO indicator
is not lit.
For automatic operation:1. Touch or press AUTO on the display or the center stack.
2. Set the temperature. Allow the system time to stabilize. Then
adjust the temperature as needed
for best comfort.
To improve fuel efficiency and to cool
the vehicle faster, recirculation may be
automatically selected in warm
weather. The recirculation light will not come on. Press@to select
recirculation; press it again to select
outside air.
English units can be changed to
metric units through the instrument
cluster. See “Cluster Options Menu ”
under Instrument Cluster 0118.
On/Off : Touch On/Off on the display
or press OFF on the center stack to
turn the fan on or off. When OFF is
selected, the system will prevent
outside air from entering the vehicle.
If on is selected, or any other button
is pressed, the climate control system
will turn on and return to delivering
airf low as set. The temperature
control and air delivery mode can still
be adjusted.
w/x: The temperature can be
adjusted separately for the driver and
the passenger. Press or touch
worx
on the center stack or display to
increase or decrease the temperature.
Press and hold to rapidly increase or
decrease the temperature.
Sync : Touch Sync on the display to
link all climate zone settings to the
driver settings. Adjust the driver side temperature control to change the
linked temperature. When the
passenger settings are adjusted, Sync
is no longer active and the
temperatures are unlinked.
Rear :
If equipped, touch Rear on the
front climate control display to open
the rear climate control display. The
rear climate control settings can now
be adjusted from the front
passenger area.
Manual Operation
9 y/z 9: Press9 yorz 9on the center stack or touch the
display, to increase or decrease the fan
speed. Press and hold the buttons or
the display control to adjust speed
more quickly. Pressing either button
cancels automatic fan control and the
fan can be controlled manually. Press
or touch AUTO on the center stack or
the display to return to automatic
operation.
Air Delivery Mode Control : When
the climate information is displayed,
touch the desired air delivery mode on
the display to change the direction of
the airf low. The selected air delivery

Rear Window Defogger
K:Press to turn the rear window
defogger on or off. An indicator light
on the button comes on to show that
the rear window defogger is on. The
rear window defogger only works
when the engine is running.
The rear window defogger turns off
automatically after about 15 minutes.
At higher vehicle speeds, the rear
window defogger may stay on
continuously.
The rear window defogger can be set
to automatic operation. See “Climate
and Air Quality” underVehicle
Personalization 0144. When Auto Rear
Defog is selected, the rear window
defogger turns on automatically when
the interior temperature is about 4 °C
(40 °F) and below.
The upper gridlines on the rear
window are antenna lines and are not
intended to heat when the defogger is
activated.
The heated outside mirrors turn on
when the rear window defogger
button is on and help to clear fog or
frost from the surface of the mirrors.Caution
Do not try to clear frost or other
material from the inside of the
front windshield and rear window
with a razor blade or anything else
that is sharp. This may damage the
rear window defogger grid and
affect the radio's ability to pick up
stations clearly. The repairs would
not be covered by the vehicle
warranty.
Driver and Passenger Heated and
Ventilated Seats : If equipped, press
Jorzto heat the driver or
passenger seat cushion and seatback.
Press
Cor{to ventilate the driver
or passenger seat.
The vehicle also has auto heated and
ventilated seats that turn on when the
vehicle is on. The seats will activate at
the level required by the vehicle’s
interior temperature. Use the manual
heated or ventilated seat buttons on
the center stack to turn auto heated
or ventilated seats off. The auto heated and ventilated seat feature
can be turned on or off.

Remote Start Climate Control
Operation : If equipped with the
remote start feature, the climate
control system may run when the
vehicle is started remotely. The system
uses the driver’s previous settings to
heat or cool the inside of the vehicle.
The rear window defogger may come
on during remote start based on cold
ambient conditions. The rear window
defogger indicator light does not come
on during a remote start.
If equipped, the heated seats will turn
on if it is cold outside or the
ventilated seats will turn on if it is hot
outside. The heated and ventilated
seat indicator lights may not come on
during a remote start. If equipped, the
heated steering wheel will come on in
a remote start if it is cold outside. The
heated steering wheel indicator light
may not come on. See Remote Vehicle
Start 037 and Heated and Ventilated
Seats 014.

rear climate control display. The rear
climate control settings can now be
adjusted from the front
passenger area.
Front : Touch Front on the rear
climate control display to open the
front climate control display.
O: PressOon the rear climate
controls to turn the system on or off.
On/Off : Touch On/Off on the rear
climate display to turn the rear
climate control on or off. To turn the
system back on, press
Oon the rear
climate controls and within
five seconds press the MODE or
temperature buttons on the rear
climate controls.
Sync : Touch Sync on the display to
link the rear climate control
temperature to the front climate
control driver temperature. The Sync
indicator will be lit. If the rear climate control temperature setting is
adjusted this unlinks the driver and
rear temperatures. The Sync indicator
turns off.
Q:
TouchQto lock or unlock the
rear climate controls on the rear of
the center console. When locked, the
rear climate control system can only
be adjusted from the rear climate
display.
Automatic Operation
AUTO : Press to turn on or off. AUTO
will be lit on the rear climate display
and will appear on the rear climate
controls. The air delivery and fan
speed is controlled automatically.
If the air delivery mode or fan speed
setting is manually adjusted, this
cancels full automatic operation. The
AUTO indicator will not be lit.
