A WARNING
All wo rk on the batte ry o r electrical system in
yo ur vehicle can result in inju ries, chemical
burns, accidents or burns. Because of this, all
wor k must be performed

ized Audi dealer or authorized Audi Service
Facility.

-If the vehicle will be parked for long periods
of time, protect it against the cold so that it
will not be destroyed by "freezing"

-There are electrical components under the
cargo floor behind a trim pane l that warm
up during operation. To reduce the risk of
the components overheat ing, do not store
objects such as blankets under the cargo
floor . If they overheat, the components wi ll
switc h off temporarily. This will be ind icat ed
by a message in the instrument cluster, un­
til the temperature returns to normal.

Vehicle battery
The term "vehicle battery" refers to the 12 Volt
battery in your vehicle.
Not running the vehicle for long periods of
time
If you do not drive your vehicle for severa l days or
weeks, electrical equ ipment is gradually sca led
back or switched off. This reduces energy use and
ensures the vehicle will be able to start after long
periods of
time<=> page 145 . Some convenience
funct ions, such as interior lighting or power seat
adjustment, may not be available under certain
circumstances . These convenience functions will
be available again once you switch t he ignition on
and start the engine .
Even when electrical equipment is switched off,
the equipm ent can still drain the vehicle battery
if the vehicl e is not driven for long periods of
time. Deep draining results in a chemical reaction
that destroys the inside of the vehicle battery.
The vehicle battery must be charged every month
to reduce the risk of this happening

Winter operation
Cold weather places higher demands on the vehi­
cle battery. This results in reduced starting abili­
ty. Have the vehicle battery checked by an au­
thorized Audi dealer or authorized Audi Service
Fac il ity before the cold time of year .

® Mud and snow capability
"M/5 " or "M+S" indicates the tire
is suitable for driving on mud and
snow .
& indicates a winter tire .
@ Composition of the tire cord
and materials
The number of plies indicates the
number of rubberized fabric lay­
ers in the tire. In general : the
more layers, the more weight a
tire can carry . Tire manufacturers

steel, nylon, polyester and other
materials.
@ Ma ximum permitted load
This number indicates the maxi­
mum load in kilograms and

Tire pre ssure mon itoring
system
means a system that detects
when one or more of a vehicle's
tires are underinflated and illumi­
nates a low tire pressure warning
telltale.
Tread
means that portion of a tire that
comes into contact with the road .
Tread separation
means pulling away of the tread
from the tire carcass.
Treadwea r indicators (TWI )
means the projections within the
principal grooves designed to give
a visual indication of the degrees
of wear of the tread. See
¢ page 334, Treadwear indicator
for more information on measur­
ing tire wear .
Uniform Tire Quality Grading
is a tire information system devel­
oped by the United States Nation­
al Highway Traffic Safety Admin­
istration (NHTSA) that is designed
to help buyers make relat ive com-

parisons among tires . The U TQG
is not a safety rating and not a
guarantee that a tire will last for
a prescribed number of miles
(kilometers) or perform in acer­
tain way . It simply gives tire buy ­
ers additional information to
combine with other considera­
tions, such as price, brand loyalty and dealer recommendatio ns. Un­
der UTQG, tires are graded by the
tire manufacturers in three areas :
treadwear, tract ion, and tempera­
ture resistance. The UTQG infor­
mation on the tires, molded into
the sidewalls.
U.S. DOT Tire Identification
Number (TIN)
T his is the tire's "se ria l number" .
It begins with the letters "DO T"
and indicates that the tire meets all federal standards. The next
two numbers or letters indicate
the plant whe re it was manufac­
tured, and the last four numbers
represent the week and year of
manufactu re . For example,
DOT .. . 2217 ...
means that the tire was produced
in the 22nd week of 2017 . The
other numbers are marketing co­ des that may or may not be used

vehic le with a tire/rim combina­
tion that is different from what
was installed at the factory, con­
sult with an authorized Audi

Because the spare tire* is differ­
ent from the regular tires instal­
led on the vehicle (such as winter
tires or wide tires), only use the spare tire* temporari ly in case of
emergency and drive carefully
while it is in use. It should be re­
placed with a regular tire as soon
as possible.
All four wheels must be equipped
with tires that are the same brand
and have the same construction
and tread pattern so that the
drive system is not damaged by
different tire speeds. For this rea­
son, in case of emergency, only
use a spare tire* that is the same
circumference as the regular
tires.

-Make sure that the tires you select have enough clearance
to the vehicle. Replacement
tires should not be chosen
simply based on the nominal
size, because tires with a dif­
ferent construction can differ
greatly even if they are the
same size. If there is not
enough clearance, the tires or
the vehicle can be damaged
and this can reduce driving
safety and increase the risk of
an accident.
-Only use tires that are more than six years old when abso­lutely necessary and drive
carefully when doing so.
-Do not use run-flat tires on

~ Turn the handwheel counter -clockwise and re-
move it .
~ Remove the collapsible spare tire.
You must inflate the co ll apsible spa re ti re be­
forehand in order to use it.
Inflating
~ Remove the valve cap from the collaps ible
spare tire.
~ T ighten the compressor hose on the collapsible
spare tire va lve.
~ Connect the compressor hose to a vehicle sock­
et and switch it on.
~ Let the compressor run until the specified value
on the tire pressure sticker is reached

~ Screw the valve cap back onto the valve .
Returning to stora ge
~ Remove the valve cap to drain the air.
~ Wait several hours before placing the collapsi­
ble spare t ire in the spare wheel well. Only then
will it fold down completely so that you can
store it securely .
~ Then screw the valve cap back onto the valve .
~ Secure the collapsible spare t ire w ith the hand-
wheel.
~ Fold the cargo floor cove r bac k into p lace.
Snow chains
Using snow chains on the collaps ible spare t ire is
not permitted for techn ica l reasons .
If you have to drive with snow chains and a rear
tire fa ils, mount the collapsible spare tire in
place of a front tire . Install the snow chains on
the fro nt t ire that you removed, and insta ll that
i n p lace of the rear t ire that fa iled .

Emergenc y ass is tanc e
-After insta lling a co llapsib le spare tire, the
tire pressure m ust be checked as quickly as
possible to reduce the r isk of an accident.
- Do not drive faster than SO mph (80 km/h)
with the collapsib le spare tire . Driving faster
than that increases the risk of an acc ident.
- Avoid full-throttle acceleration, heavy brak­ ing, and fast cornering with the collapsible
spare tire, because this increases the risk of
an accident .
- Never drive using more than one collapsible
spare tire, because this increases the risk of
an accident .
- Normal tires or w inter t ires must not be
mounted on the collapsible spare tire r im .
@ Note
The compressor must be switched off after 12
minutes at the most to reduce the risk of
overheating. Let the compressor cool down
for several m inutes before us ing it aga in .
