Opening and clo sin g
Applies to: Spo rt b ack
You can open and close the luggage compart­
ment lid with foot motion activation .
Requirements: you must be carrying your vehicle
key with you. You must be standing at the center
behind the luggage compartment lid. You shou ld
be approximately 8 in (20 cm) from the rea r of
the vehicle . The ign ition must be switched off.
Make sure you have firm footing.
- Move your foot back and forth be low the bump­
er ~ fig. 35 . Do not touch the bumper. The lug­
gage compartment lid will open/close on ce the
system detects the movement.
The luggage compartment lid w ill only open/
close if you perfo rm the movement as described.
This prevents the luggage compartmen t lid from
ope ning o r closing due to simi lar movements,
such as when you walk between the rear of the
vehicle and your garage door.
The closing of the luggage compartmen t lid is in­
d icated by a warning signal and can be cance led
by making the described movement again.
The foot movement does not loc k the vehicle.
General inform ation
In some situations, the function may be limited
or temporar ily unava ilable . This may happe n if:
- the luggage compartment lid was closed imme­
diately before
- you park close to a hedge and the branches
move back and forth under the vehicle for a
long period of time
- you clean your vehicle, for example with a pres­
sure washer or in a car wash
- there is heavy rain
-the bumper is very dirty, for example after driv-
ing on salt-covered roads
-there is interfe rence to the radio signal from
the vehicle key, such as from cell phones or re­
mote controls
A WARNING
-Pay careful attention when closing the lug­
gage compartment lid. Otherw ise, you could

cause serious injury to yourse lf or others de­
spite the pinch protection.
- To reduce the risk of pinching injuries, a l­
ways make sure that no one is in the operat­
ing area of the luggage compartment lid; in­
cluding the hinge areas and the upper and
lower edge of the luggage compartment lid .
- Never drive with the luggage compartment
lid ajar or open, because poisono us gases
can enter the vehicle interior and create the
risk of asphyx iat ion.
- App lies to: Sp ortback: If there is a luggage
rac k (such as a bicycle rack) on the luggage
compa rtment lid, the luggage compartment
lid may no t open comp letely unde r certain
c ircumst ances, or i t could close by itself if
open due to the extra weight. To reduce t he
risk of injury, the open luggage compart­
ment lid must therefore have additional
support or the cargo must f irst be removed
from the rack.
Trunk escape latch
Appl ies to : vehicles with trunk escape latc h
In case of on emergency, the rear lid con be
opened from the inside using the trunk escape
latch.

11> Push the latch in the di rect ion of the arrow un­
til the lock re leases.
The trunk escape latch inside the rear lid is made
of fluorescent material to glow in the dark.
A WARNING
The t runk escape latch is to be used only in an
emergency.

Valet parking function
Applies to: vehicles wit h valet parking funct ion
The valet parking function protects the luggage
comportment from unauthorized access.

You can switch the valet parking function on, for
example when someone else is parking your vehi­
cle
l)_ When the function is switched on, the ve­
hicle can be driven, locked and unlocked using
the master key, but access to the luggage com­
partment is not permitted .

.,. Open the glove compartment ~ page 76 .
.,. Press the IVALET I button to switch the valet
parking function on . The LED in the button
turns on.
.,. Lock the glove compartment with the mechani­
cal key .
.,. Applies to: vehicles with lockable pass-through
and lockable rear seat backrests: To secure the
luggage compartment from the vehicle interior
as well, lock the pass-through and the rear seat
backrests using the mechanical key

.,. Give your master key to the personnel who are
parking your vehicle and keep the mechanical
key.

Open ing and closing
When the valet parking function is switched on,
the message
Valet parking activated appears in
the instrument cluster disp lay when you sw itch
the ignition on.
@ Tips
Please note that the luggage compartment
can still be accessed from the vehicle interior
in vehicles with fixed rear seat backrests or
ones that cannot be locked, even when the
valet park ing funct ion is switched on.
Garage door opener
(Homelink)
Description
Applies to: vehicles with garage door opener (Home Link)

With the garage door opener ( Homelink), you
can activate systems such as the garage doors,
sec urity systems or house lights from inside your
vehicle. Three buttons are integrated in the head­
liner that can be programmed to up to three re­
mote controls.
T o be able to operate systems using the garage
door opener, the buttons in the headliner must
first be programmed .
_& WARNING ~
When operating or programming the garage
door opener, make sure that no people or ob­
jects are in the area immediately s urrounding
the equipment. People can be injured or prop-
erty can be damaged if struck when closing.

@ Tips
-The garage door opener may need to be
synchronized with the system motor after
the programming. Follow the manufactur­
er's instructions for doing this.
- The programming process can take up to 30
seconds. The hand transm itter may need to
be operated again during the process.
- Make sure the batteries in the hand trans­
mitter are charged before starting the pro­
gramming process.
- In some cases, the system must be pro­
grammed using an alternative mode. Select i n the Infotainment system:

This view may be used when parking in a garage
or in a parking space.

eral cameras. The four cameras give you the fo l­
lowing views: area around the vehicle, front cor­
ner view and rear corner view, view in front of the
vehicle and behind the vehicle.

Airbag syste m
How side curtain airbags work
Applies to: ve hicles w ith s ide curta in a irbags
Side curtain airbags con work together with side
airbags to help reduce the risk of head and upper torso injuries for occupants who ore properly re­
strained.

The s ide curtain airbags inflate between the oc­
cupant and the windows in a side collision

When the system is triggered, the side curtain
airbag is filled with propellant gas and breaks
through a seam above the front and rear side windows identified by the A IRBAG label. I n order
to help p rovide this addit ional protection, the
side curtain airbag must inflate within the blink
of an eye at very high speed and with great force .
The s ide curta in a irbag could injure you if your
seating position is not proper or upright or if
items are located in the area where the supple­
mental side curtain airbag inflates . This applies
especially to
children ¢ page 302.
Although they are not a soft pillow, side curtain
airbags can "cushion" the impact and in this way
they can help to reduce the risk of injury to the
head and the upper part of the body .
A fine dust may develop when the airbag deploys.
This is quite normal and does not mean there is a
fire in the veh icle .

Important safety instructions on the side
curtain airbag system
Appl ies to : vehicles wi th side curtain airbags
Airbags ore only supplemental restraints . Always
properly wear safety belts and ride in a proper seating position .
There is a lot that you and your passengers must
know and do to help the safety belts and airbags
do their job to p rovide supplemental protection .
A WARNING
-Improperly wearing safety be lts and improper
seating positions increase the risk of serious
personal injury and death whenever a vehicle
is being used.
- Never let occupants place any parts of their
bodies in the area from which the side cur­
tain airbag inflate.
- Always make sure that the side curtain air­
bags can inflate without interference.
- Use the bu ilt-in coat hooks only for light ­
weight clothing. Never leave any heavy or
sharp-edged objects in the pockets that may
interfere with a irbag deployment and can
cause personal injury in a collision.
- Never use hangers to hang clothes on the
hooks.
- On ly use factory-installed sun shades or, if
shades installed after the vehicle leaves the
factory, use only genu ine Audi sun shades.
- Never swing the sun visors over to the s ide
w indows if things such as pens, garage door
openers, hands-free speakers, etc . are at­
tached to the sun v isors. They could come
loose and cause serious injury if the side cu r­
tain airbag infla tes.
- A deploying airbag inflates in a fract ion of a
second and with great force.
- Never attach objects to the cover or in the
deployment zone of a s ide curtain airbag .
- The airbag deployment zones must be kept clear at al l t imes. Make sure there are no
objects, pets, o r othe r persons in the space
between any vehicle occupant and any air­
bag at any time .
- Do not attach any accessories to the doors.
