Each indicator light will flash when its
corresponding turn signal lights are
flashing.

This indicator light comes on when the
transmission is in the neutral position.

This indicator light comes on when the
high beam of the headlight is switched
on.

Oil pressure warning light “ ”
This warning light comes on if the en-
gine oil pressure is low.
The electrical circuit of the warning
light can be checked by turning the key
to “ON”. The warning light should
come on again after going off briefly,
and then remain on until the engine is
started.
If the warning light does not come on
initially when the key is turned to “ON”,
have a Yamaha dealer check the elec-
trical circuit.NOTICE

If the warning light comes on when
the engine is running, stop the en-
gine immediately and check oil level.If the oil level is below the minimum
level, add sufficient oil of the recom-
mended t y p e t o r a i s e i t u p t o t h e c o r -
rect level. If the oil pressure warning
light remains on even if the oil level
is correct, immediately turn the en-
gine off and have a Yamaha dealer
check the vehicle.
TIPIf the warning light does not go off after
starting the engine, check the engine
oil level and add oil if necessary. (See

adding engine oil, have a Yamaha
dealer check the vehicle.

This warning light comes on if the en-
gine overheats. If this occurs, stop the
engine immediately and allow the en-

The ABS may not work correctly. If any
of the above occurs, have a Yamaha
dealer check the system as soon as

If the ABS warning light does not go
off after traveling at a speed of 10
km/h (6 mi/h) or higher, or if the
warning light comes on or flashes
while riding, the brake system re-
verts to conventional braking. If ei-
ther of the above occurs, or if the
warning light does not come on at
all, use extra caution to avoid possi-
ble wheel lock during emergency
braking. Have a Yamaha dealer
check the brake system and electri-
cal circuits as soon as possible.

Tips for reducing fuel con-
sumptionFuel consumption depends largely on
your riding style. Consider the follow-
ing tips to reduce fuel consumption:
Shift up swiftly, and avoid high en-
gine speeds during acceleration.
Do not rev the engine while shift-
ing down, and avoid high engine
speeds with no load on the en-
gine.
Turn the engine off instead of let-
ting it idle for an extended length
of time (e.g., in traffic jams, at traf-
fic lights or at railroad crossings).

in the life of your engine than the period
between 0 and 1600 km (1000 mi). For
this reason, you should read the fol-
lowing material carefully.
Since the engine is brand new, do not
put an excessive load on it for the first

to the correct operating clearances.

6 Engine overheating
WARNING

Do not remove the radiator cap when the engine and radiator are hot. Scalding hot fluid and steam may be
blown out under pressure, which could cause serious injury. Be sure to wait until the engine has cooled.
After removing the radiator cap retaining bolt, place a thick rag, like a towel, over the radiator cap, and then
slowly rotate the cap counterclockwise to the detent to allow any residual pressure to escape. When the hiss-
ing sound has stopped, press down on the cap while turning it counterclockwise, and then remove the cap.TIPIf coolant is not available, tap water can be temporarily used instead, provided that it is changed to the recommended cool-
ant as soon as possible.

Check the coolant level in the
reservoir and radiator.
