To unlock a rear door:
–To open one of the rear doors individually,
pull its handle to unlock and open the door9.

Antenna locations for the start andlock system
The vehicle is equipped with a keyless10 startand lock system that requires a number of anten-nas located at various points in the vehicle.

Locking and unlocking confirmation
The turn signals can be used to indicate that thevehicle has been locked/unlocked with theremote key. These settings can also be changedin the center display's Top view by going to:
SettingsMy CarLockingLocking andUnlocking Feedback.
Exterior confirmation
•Locking: the turn signals flash once and the
door mirrors will fold in (retract)12
•Unlocking: the turn signals flash twice and
the door mirrors will fold out12
When the vehicle is locked, confirmation will onlybe given if all doors/tailgate and the hood areclosed.
If the vehicle is locked while only the driver's door
is closed13, all doors/tailgate will lock but confir-mation will only be given when all doors/tailgate/hood are closed.
Interior confirmation
Lock and alarm indicator light on the dashboard
A long flash indicates the vehicle is locked. Whilethe vehicle is locked, the indicator will flashbriefly.
LEDs in the lock buttons on the doors illuminatewhen the doors are locked.

Indicator light in the respective door on: that dooris locked. If a door is opened, the light in thatdoor will out but the other indicator lights willremain on.

Locking/unlocking the tailgate
The tailgate can be locked/unlocked in differentways, depending on whether the vehicle isequipped with the optional keyless Passive Entrysystem.
Unlocking with the remote key
Remote key tailgate button
1.Press the button on the remote key.
>The tailgate will be unlocked but remainclosed. The alarm indicator on the dash-board will go out to indicate that the tail-gate alarm is no longer armed. The otherdoors will remain locked and the alarm willremain armed for them.
2. Open the tailgate.
> If the tailgate is not opened within twominutes, it will relock and the alarm willrearm.

Keyless unlocking *
Rubberized pressure plate
Opening the tailgate:
1.With the remote key in your possession,unlock the tailgate by pressing lightly on therubberized pressure plate under the outertailgate handle. If the remote key is notdetected, the tailgate cannot be unlocked/opened. Three audible signals will sound.
2. Lift the handle to open the tailgate fully.
CAUTION
•When pressing the rubberized pressureplate, only light pressure is necessary torelease the tailgate's electronic lockingmechanism.
•When opening the tailgate, pull it upusing the handle. Too much pressure onthe rubberized pressure plate can dam-age its electrical connections.
WARNING
Avoid driving with the tailgate open if at allpossible. Doing so could allow exhaust gasesto enter the passenger compartment.
Unlocking the tailgate from inside the
vehicle
Tailgate unlock button
To unlock the tailgate:
–Press the button on the lighting panel.
>The tailgate will unlock and can beopened within two minutes (if the vehiclehas been locked from the inside).
Locking with the remote key
–Press the button on the remote key.
>The alarm indicator on the dashboard willbegin to flash to show that the alarm hasbeen armed.

Power tailgate*
The optional power tailgate can be opened/closed in several ways.
The power tailgate can be opened/closed using
the button on the lighting panel in the pas-
senger compartment, the on the remote key,by moving your foot under a sensor under therear bumper* or manually.
WARNING
When operating the tailgate manually, do notuse force to open or close it. This could resultin injury.

Opening the tailgate
The power tailgate can be opened electrically by:
•Pressing and holding the button on thelighting panel until the tailgate begins toopen.
•Pressing and holding the button on theremote key until the tailgate begins to open.
•Pressing lightly on the rubber-covered buttonunder the tailgate's outside handle.
•Moving your foot under a sensor under therear bumper*.
Closing the tailgate
The tailgate can be closed by moving your footunder a sensor beneath the rear bumper*, bypressing the button on the lighting panel, withthe remote key or by pressing the button on the
lower edge of the tailgate*14
To close the tailgate15:
–Press the button on the lighting panel
or on the button on the remote key.
>The tailgate will close automatically andaudible signal will sound. This will notlock the tailgate.

If the remote key is not close enough to the tail-gate, automatic locking/unlocking/opening/clos-ing will not be possible. Three short audible sig-nals will sound.
Interrupting opening/closing
–This can be done in five ways:
•Press the button on the lighting panel
•Press the button on the remote key
•Press either of the buttons on the loweredge of the tailgate
•Press lightly on the rubber-covered buttonunder the tailgate's outside handle
•Move your foot under a sensor beneaththe rear bumper*
>The tailgate will stop moving
Programming the tailgate's maximum
opening angle
The tailgate's maximum opening angle can beprogrammed, for example, if the tailgate has to beopened in a garage with a low ceiling.
Programming the opening angle:
–Open the tailgate manually to the desiredangle and press and hold the closing buttonon the tailgate's lower edge for at least 3seconds. Release the tailgate.
>Two audible signals will sound to indicatethat the selected opening angle has beenstored.
Erasing tailgate programming
–Open the tailgate manually to its highestposition and press and hold the closing but-ton on the tailgate's lower edge for at least 3seconds. Release the tailgate.
>Two audible signals will sound to indicatethat the programmed opening angle hasbeen erased.
NOTE
If the tailgate has been opened and closedcontinuously too long, the automatic functionwill be deactivated to avoid overloading theelectrical system. The automatic function canbe used again after approximately 2 minutes.
If the vehicle's battery has been discharged ordisconnected, or if the tailgate has been openfor more than 24 hours, the tailgate must beopened and closed once manually to resetthe system.
Pinch protection
If the tailgate is obstructed when being opened/closed, a pinch protection mechanism is acti-vated.
•While opening: the tailgate will stop movingand an audible signal will sound.
•While closing: the tailgate will stop andreturn to the currently programmed maximumopening position. An audible signal willsound.
WARNING
Pay attention to the risk of injury when open-ing/ closing the tailgate. Before opening/closing: Make sure that no one is in the pathof the tailgate as an injury could occur.

Private (valet) locking
The glove compartment and the tailgate can belocked when e.g., the vehicle is in a workshopfor service, etc.
Activating private locking/setting a
security code
The ignition has to be in at least mode I in orderto activate private locking.
1. Private locking can be activated from thecenter display's Function view or under Set-tings in Top view:
•In Function view, tap Private Locking.
•In Top view, tap Settings and then tap
My CarLocking. Tap the PrivateLocking box.
>A pop-up window will appear.
NOTE
•A security code has to be selected the firsttime this function is used. This code isused to deactivate any previously used PINcodes. Keep this code in a safe place.
•If private locking is activated and the vehi-cle is unlocked using Volvo On Call or theVolvo On Call mobile app, it will be auto-matically deactivated.
2. Enter the code to be used to unlock theglove compartment and tailgate and tapConfirm.
>The glove compartment and tailgate willlock. Confirmation is provided by a greenindicator light in the button in Functionview and an X in the private locking boxunder Top view's Settings.
Deactivating private locking
1. This function can be deactivated from thecenter display's Function view or under Set-tings in Top view:
•In Function view, tap Private Locking.
•In Top view, tap Settings and then tap
My CarLocking. Tap (deselect) thePrivate Locking box.
>A pop-up window will appear.
2. Enter the code used for locking and tapConfirm.
>The glove compartment and tailgate willunlock. Confirmation is provided when thegreen indicator light in the button in Func-tion view goes out and the X in the privatelocking box under Top view's Settings dis-appears.

Locking/unlocking with thedetachable key blade
The detachable key blade can be used to e.g.,unlock the driver's door from the outside if, forexample, the remote key's battery is weak.
Unlocking
Pull out the driver's door handle as far aspossible to access the lock cylinder.
Remove the key blade from the remote keyand insert it into the lock cylinder.
Turn it clockwise 45 degrees so that the keyblade points straight rearward.
Turn the key blade back 45 degrees to itsoriginal position. Remove the key blade fromthe lock cylinder and release the door han-dle.
5.Pull the door handle again to open the door.
> This will trigger the alarm.
Lock the door in the same way, but turn the keyin step 3 counterclockwise.
Turning off the alarm

To turn off the alarm:
1.Place the remote key in the cup holder (onthe key symbol) in the tunnel console (seethe illustration).
2.Turn the start knob to START and release it.
> The start knob will return to its originalposition and the alarm will be turned off.
Locking
If necessary, the vehicle can be locked by insert-ing the detachable key blade into the lock cylin-der in the driver's door.
Each of the other doors has a lock mechanismthat must be pressed in using the key blade sothat the door cannot be opened from the outside.The doors can still be opened from the inside.
