NOTE
•At very low or high temperatures, some ofthe charging current is used to heat orcool the hybrid battery and the passengercompartment, which means that chargingmay take longer.
•Charging time is longer if preconditioninghas been selected. This time is primarilyaffected by the ambient temperature.
Charging coupler and charging socket
There are normally several 120-/240-volt powerconsumers in a fuse circuit, which means thatmore than one power consumer (lighting, vacuumcleaner, electric drill, etc.) may use the same fuse.
Long-term storage of a vehicle witha hybrid battery
To help keep the hybrid battery from degrading ifthe vehicle is not driven for a prolonged period(longer than 1 month), the hybrid battery chargelevel should be kept at approx. 25% accordingto the gauge in the instrument panel.
Do as follows:
1. If the hybrid battery charge level is high, drivethe vehicle until approx. 25% of the chargeremains. If the charge level is low, charge thebattery until the level is approx. 25%.
2.If the vehicle has not been driven for at least6 months or the charge level is noticeablybelow the 25% level, charge the battery upto 25% again to help compensate for naturalbattery discharge. Check the charge levelregularly using the gauge in the instrumentpanel.

NOTE
•If the vehicle will not be driven for anextended period, park it in as cool a loca-tion as possible to help minimize hybridbattery aging. Park the vehicle indoors orin a shady location in the summer, which-ever is coolest.

Selecting a drive mode
1.Press the DRIVE MODE control in the tun-nel console.
>A pop-up menu will open in the centerdisplay.
2. Roll the control upward or downward to scrollto the desired drive mode.
A drive mode can also be selected by tap-ping its button on the center display.
3. Press the control again to select it.
When a driving mode cannot be selected, one ofthe following messages may be displayed:
•Not possible to select due to gear inmanual
•Not possible to select due to low battery
•Not possible to select due to lowtemperature
•Not possible to select due to limitations
•Not possible to select due to highspeed.
Available drive modes
HYBRID
This is the default mode.
The vehicle normally starts in Hybrid mode 4. Theengine management system uses both the elec-tric motor and gasoline engine (separately or intandem) and calculates the optimal levels of per-formance, fuel consumption and comfort. Athigher speeds, ground clearance is reducedautomatically to help reduce wind resistance.
The amount of driving done using only the elec-tric motor in Hybrid mode is determined by thehybrid battery's charge level and the need forheating/cooling in the passenger compartment.
If sufficient electrical energy is available, only theelectric motor will be activated when the driverpresses the accelerator pedal up to a certainlevel. Above this level, the gasoline engine willstart.
The instrument panel gauge when both the electricmotor and gasoline engine are being used
The long needle in the gauge indicates theamount of energy that the vehicle is currentlyusing. The short white line between the "light-ning" and "oil drop" symbols indicates theamount of energy available. The gasoline engine starts when the responserequired when the driver presses the acceleratorpedal cannot be provided by the electric motoralone.
The gauge also indicates when the battery isbeing recharged (regenerated) during light brak-ing. See the article "Brakes" for additional infor-mation.

When the hybrid battery's charge level is low, thegasoline engine will start more often to help con-serve electrical energy. Charge the battery withthe charging cable as soon as possible.
PURE
This mode activates the electric motor only withas low energy consumption as possible and thelowest possible carbon dioxide emissions.
Ground clearance will be lowered to help reducewind resistance and certain climate system func-tions will be reduced.
Pure mode is available when the hybrid battery issufficiently charged. If the level gets too low, thegasoline engine will start.
The gasoline engine will also start:
•If the vehicle's speed goes above approx.78 mph (125 km/h)
•If the driver wants more response than theelectric motor alone can provide
•If factors such as cold weather, etc., affectthe system or components
To restart the climate system functions that havebeen reduced in the mode, press the AUTO ordefroster buttons.
In order to return to full functionality for all of thesystems that may be affected by Pure mode,select another drive mode or adapt the climatesystem functions using the INDIVIDUAL mode.
OFF ROAD
This mode helps maximize the vehicle's capacityto traverse difficult terrain or poor roads.
In OFF ROAD, ground clearance is maximized,the steering is light, All Wheel Drive and HillDescent Control are activated and a compassand altimeter will be displayed in the instrumentpanel.
This drive mode can only be activated at lowspeeds (the permissible speed range will beshown on the speedometer). At higher speeds,OFF ROAD mode will be cancelled and AWD willbe activated.
This mode is not intended for normal streetdriving.
CAUTION
OFF ROAD drive mode may not be used ifthe vehicle is towing a trailer without an elec-trical connection. This could result in damageto the pneumatic suspension system's bel-lows.
Due to the increased ground clearance, if theOFF ROAD mode was selected when the enginewas switched off, it will also restart in this mode.
AWD
This mode offers improved traction using four-wheel drive and is intended primarily for low-speed driving on slippery surfaces. However, it
also helps increase directional stability at higherspeeds.
In this mode, both the electric motor and the gas-oline engine are used continuously, which resultsin higher fuel consumption.
POWER
Power mode is intended for sportier, more activedriving.
This mode maximizes the combined effects ofthe electric motor and the gasoline engine andprovides power to all four wheels. Response topressure on the accelerator pedal is more imme-diate and the transmission shifts up at higherspeeds. Steering response is also more immedi-ate, the suspension is stiffer and lower groundclearance reduces body roll when cornering.
In this mode, both the electric motor and the gas-oline engine are used continuously, which resultsin higher fuel consumption.

Suspension leveling settings
Easy entry
The vehicle can be lowered to entering and exit-ing easier.
In the center display's Top view:
1.Tap Settings.
2.Tap My CarSuspension .
3.Select Easy Entry/Exit Control.
>When the vehicle is parked and theengine is turned off, the level is lowered.Level adjustment will stop if a side door isopened and will resume after a slightdelay when the door has been closed.When the engine is started and the vehi-cle begins to move, the level will be raisedto the height set by the selected drivemode.
If a door has been opened and closed, there maybe a slight delay before the leveling function willresume.
Turning off suspension and leveling control
In certain situations, this function has to beturned off, for example when lifting the vehicle ona jack to help avoid problems created by the dif-ference in levels in the pneumatic suspensionwhen the vehicle is raised.
1.Tap Settings in the center display's Topview.
2.Tap My CarSuspension .
3.Select Deactivate Suspension & LevelingControl.
Loading mode
Use the buttons in the cargo compartment toraise or lower the vehicle to make loading orunloading easier or when attaching a trailer.
Parking the vehicle
When parking, be sure that there is adequatespace above and below the vehicle since itsground clearance may vary, e.g., depending onthe ambient temperature, how the vehicle is loa-ded, if loading mode is being used or the drivemode selected after the engine is started.
The level may also be adjusted for a certain timeafter the vehicle has been parked to compensatefor possible height adjustments due to tempera-ture changes in the pneumatic suspension whenthe vehicle has cooled.
Transport
When transporting the vehicle on a ferry, train ora tow truck, it may only be secured (lashed)around the tires, not using any other chassiscomponents. Changes in the pneumatic suspen-sion may occur during transport that could nega-tively affect the lashing and result in damage.

The Federal Clean Air Act – U.S.
The Federal Clean Air Act requires vehicle manu-facturers to furnish written instructions to the ulti-mate purchaser to assure the proper servicingand function of the components that controlemissions. These services, which are listed in the"Warranty and Service Records Information"booklet, are not covered by the warranty. You willbe required to pay for labor and material used.
Maintenance
Your Volvo passed several major inspectionsbefore it was delivered to you, in accordance withVolvo specifications. The maintenance proce-dures outlined in the Warranty and ServiceRecords Information booklet, many of which willpositively affect your vehicle's emissions, shouldbe performed as indicated. It is recommendedthat receipts for vehicle emission maintenance beretained in case questions arise concerning
maintenance. Inspection and maintenance shouldalso be performed anytime a malfunction isobserved or suspected.

On-board Diagnostic System
OBD II is part of your vehicle's computerizedengine management system. It stores diagnosticinformation about your vehicle's emission con-trols. It can light the Check Engine light (MIL) if itdetects an emission control "fault." A "fault" is acomponent or system that is not performingwithin an expected range. A fault may be perma-nent or temporary. OBD II will store a messageabout any fault.

How do states use OBD II for emission
inspections?
Many states connect a computer directly to avehicle's OBD II system. The inspector can thenread "faults." In some states, this type of inspec-tion has replaced the tailpipe emission test.
How can my vehicle fail OBD II emission
inspection?
Your vehicle can fail OBD II emission inspectionfor any of the following reasons.
•If your Check Engine (MIL) light is lit, yourvehicle may fail inspection.
•If your vehicle's Check Engine light was lit,but went out without any action on your part,OBD II will still have a recorded fault. Yourvehicle may pass or fail, depending on theinspection practices in your area.
•If you had recent service that required dis-connecting the battery, OBD II diagnosticinformation may be incomplete and "notready" for inspection. A vehicle that is notready may fail inspection.
How can I prepare for my next OBD II
emission inspection?
•If your Check Engine (MIL) light is lit – or waslit but went out without service, have your
vehicle diagnosed and, if necessary, servicedby a qualified Volvo technician.
•If you recently had service for a lit CheckEngine light, or if you had service thatrequired disconnecting the battery, a periodof driving is necessary to bring the OBD IIsystem to "ready" for inspection. Two half-hour trips of mixed stop-and-go/highwaydriving are typically needed to allow OBD II toreach readiness. Your Volvo retailer can pro-vide you with more information on planning atrip.
•Maintain your vehicle in accordance with yourvehicle's maintenance schedule.
Owner maintenance
Periodic maintenance requirements and intervalsare described in your vehicle's Warranty andService Records Information booklet.
The following points can be carried out betweenthe normally scheduled maintenance services.
Each time the car is refueled:
•Check the engine oil level.
•Clean the windshield, windshield wipers,headlights, and taillights.
Monthly:
•Check cold tire pressure in all tires. Inspectthe tires for wear.
•Check that engine coolant and other fluidlevels are between the indicated "min" and"max" markings.
•Clean interior glass surfaces with a glasscleaner and soft paper towels.
•Wipe driver information displays with a softcloth.
•Visually inspect battery terminals for corro-sion. Corrosion may indicate a loose terminalconnector, or a battery near the end of itsuseful service life. Consult your Volvo retailerfor additional information.
As needed:
Wash the car, including the undercarriage, toreduce wear that can be caused by a buildup ofdirt, and corrosion that can be caused by salt res-idues.
Clean leaves and twigs from air intake vents atthe base of the windshield, and from other placeswhere they may collect.

Viewing workshop information
1.Open the Car status app in the center dis-play's App view.
2.Tap Appointments.
3.Under Appointments, tap Workshopinformation.
>A window with retailer information willappear.
4. If you prefer, call the retailer, or select anaddress or GPS coordinates to activate thenavigation system.
Appointments and vehicle information
When you make an appointment or send vehicleinformation from your vehicle, this information will
be sent using the Internet connection2. Informa-tion about the vehicle includes:
•service requirements
•time since service was last performed
•function status
•fluid levels
•mileage (odometer reading)
•VIN (Vehicle Identification Number)
•The vehicle's software version
•Diagnostic information

Wi-Fi connection to a workshop
The time a vehicle is in a workshop for service orrepairs can be reduced by transmitting trouble-shooting information as soon as the car reachesthe workshop.
This is done most conveniently by selectingAutomatically connect when I arrive in thecenter display's Settings menu.
Each time the vehicle slows down to a sufficientlylow speed, it begins searching for a Wi-Fi net-work. If an authorized Volvo network (at a retaileror workshop) is found, a message will be dis-played or a pop-up window will open in the cen-ter display (this applies to manual connections,see the section "Manually connecting to a work-shop" below).

Automatically connecting to a
workshop
Without driver confirmation
This is the most convenient way to transmit trou-ble-shooting data. The driver does not need toconfirm that the vehicle will establish a connec-tion.
If the vehicle stops at a workshop and the engineis switched off using the start knob, a messagewill appear above the status bar in the center dis-play. The vehicle will be automatically connectedwhen the driver's door is opened if the driverdoes not tap the Cancel button in the message.
To help prevent the driver from being disturbedby unwanted requests to connect (e.g., if thevehicle is often parked near a workshop with anauthorized Volvo network), the vehicle will switchto manual connection if the driver cancels a con-nection request twice within 5 days.
With driver confirmation
With this alternative, the driver must confirm aconnection.
If the vehicle stops at a workshop and the engineis switched off using the start knob, a pop-upwindow will open in the center display. The vehi-cle will be automatically connected when the driv-er's door is opened if the driver taps Connect inthe pop-up window. If the driver does nothing ortaps the pop-up window's Abort button, noattempt will be made to establish a connection.
NOTE
To help prevent the driver from being distur-bed by unwanted requests to connect (e.g., ifthe vehicle is often parked near a workshopwith an authorized Volvo network), the vehiclewill switch to manual connection if the drivercancels a connection request twice within5 days.
Manually connecting to a workshop
Manual connections are handled by the servicetechnician.
Changing the way a connection is made
The type of connection (manual or automatic)can be changed in the center display's Settingsmenu.
1. Pull down the center display's Top view andtap Settings.
2.Tap CommunicationVolvo ServiceNetworks.
3.Select Automatically connect when Iarrive, Ask before connecting or Neverconnect and never ask (manual connec-tions).

Climate system service
Service and repairs on the air conditioning sys-tem should only be done by a trained and quali-fied Volvo service technician.
Troubleshooting and repairs
The air conditioning system contains a floures-cent tracer substance. Ultraviolet light is used tosearch for leaks in the system.
Refrigerant R134a
WARNING
The air conditioning system contains therefrigerant R134a under pressure. Serviceand repairs on the system should only bedone by a trained and qualified Volvo servicetechnician.
