Electronic Stability Control (ESC)
Electronic Stability Control (ESC) helps reduce wheel spin, counteract skidding and to generallyhelp improve directional stability.
A pulsating sound will be audi- ble when the system is activelyoperating and is normal. Accel-eration may also be slightlyslower than normal.
WARNING
ESC is a supplementary aid and cannot deal with all situations or road conditions. The driver is always responsible for operating the vehicle in a safe manner in accordancewith current traffic regulations.
ESC consists of the following functions: • Traction control
• Spin control
• Active Yaw Control
• Engine Drag Control
• Trailer Stability Assist
Traction controlThis function is designed to help reduce wheel spin by transferring power from a drive wheel that begins to lose traction to the wheel on the oppo-site side of the vehicle (on the same axle).
Spin controlThis function is designed to help prevent thedrive wheels from spinning while the vehicle isaccelerating.
Active Yaw ControlAt low speeds, this function helps maintain direc-tional stability by braking one or more of thewheels if the vehicle shows a tendency to skid orslide laterally.
Engine Drag Control EDCEDC helps keep the engine running if the wheelsshow a tendency to lock, e.g., when shifting downin the manual shifting mode or while using theengine's braking function on a slippery surface. Ifthe wheels were to lock, the vehicle wouldbecome more difficult to steer.
Trailer Stability Assist
*1TSA helps stabilize a vehicle that is towing atrailer when the vehicle and trailer have begun tosway. This system is automatically deactivated if the driver selects
Sport mode.

Electronic Stability Control (ESC) sport mode
ESC is always activated and cannot be switched off.
However, the driver can select Sport mode,
which offers more active driving characteristics. In Sport mode, the engine management system
monitors movement of the accelerator pedal and steering wheel for sportier driving and allowsmore lateral movement of the rear wheels beforeESC is triggered. Under certain circumstances, such as when driv- ing with snow chains, or driving in deep snow orloose sand, it may be advisable to temporarily use Sport mode for maximum tractive force.
If the driver releases pressure on the accelerator pedal, ETC will also activate to help stabilize thevehicle.
Activating/deactivating Sport modeIn the center display's Function view, tap ESC Sport Mode.
The green indicator light in the button will illuminate to showthat the function has been acti-vated or gray when the functionis deactivated.
When Sport mode is activated, this
symbol will illuminate in the instrument panel. It will remain on until the driverdeactivates the function. ETC will also
return to normal mode when the engine is restar-ted.

Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) - limitations
Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) functionality may be limited in certain situations.
Steep roads and/or heavy loadsAdaptive Cruise Control is primarily intended for use on relatively level roads. The function may notbe able to maintain the correct time interval tothe vehicle ahead when driving down steep hills.The driver should be attentive and prepared toapply the brakes in these situations. Do not use Adaptive Cruise Control when the vehicle is transporting a heavy load or if it is tow-ing a trailer.
Additional information
• The Off Road drive mode cannot be
selected if Adaptive Cruise Control is acti- vated.

Pilot Assist is designed to follow a vehicle ahead in the same traffic lane at a preset time intervalset by the driver. If the radar sensor does notdetect a vehicle ahead, the vehicle will insteadmaintain the speed set by the driver. This will alsobe the case if a vehicle ahead accelerates andexceeds the set speed.
• Pilot Assist can follow another vehicle from astandstill up to a speed of approx. 125 mph(200 km/h)
• Pilot Assist can provide steering assistancefrom very low speeds up to approx. 87 mph(140 km/h).
Never exceed posted speed limits.
WARNING
• Pilot Assist is not a collision avoidance system. The driver must react if the sys-tem does not detect another vehicle.
• Pilot Assist does not react to people, ani-mals, stationary objects, small vehicles(such as bicycles and motorcycles), lowtrailers and slow moving, parked orapproaching vehicles.
• Do not use Pilot Assist in demandingdriving conditions such as city driving orother heavy traffic situations, in areas withintersections, in slippery conditions, whenthere is a great deal of water or slush onthe road, during heavy rain or snow, inpoor visibility, on winding roads, on high-way on- or off-ramps or if the vehicle istowing a trailer, boat, etc.
NOTE
•Pilot Assist maintenance should only be carried out by a trained and qualifiedVolvo service technician.
• Pilot Assist regulates your vehicle'sspeed using the accelerator pedal andthe brakes. Please be aware that theremay be a faint sound from the brakeswhen the system is using them.

In certain situations, it may be difficult for Pilot Assist to assist the driver correctly or to deac-tivate automatically. In such cases, it is advisa-ble not to use Pilot Assist. Examples of suchsituations may be:
• the lane's side market lines are missing, badly faded or cross each other.
• the division of lanes is not clear, e.g.,when a line divides or merges withanother, at exits or if there are many roadsigns/markers.
• there are edges or other lines on or nearthe lane, e.g., curbs, cracks, repairedareas, sharp shadows, etc.
• the lane is narrow or winding.
• the lane is at the top of a hill, on anuneven road surface or over a bump.
•bad weather conditions (rain, snow, fog, slush, poor visibility, backlighting, etc).
The driver should also be aware that Pilot Assist has the following limitations: • High curbs, barriers and temporary obsta- cles (cones, barriers etc) may not bedetected or could be detected incorrectlyas side marker lines, which may create arisk of collision. The driver must ensure asafe distance to these obstacles.
• The camera or radar sensor may not beable to detect objects if there are pot-holes or if there are stationary objectspartially or completely blocking the road.
• Pilot Assist does not "see" pedestrians,animals, etc.
• Pilot Assist's steering capacity is limitedand may not always be able to help thedriver keep the vehicle in the lane.
The driver can always take action to override PilotAssist.

Vehicle's speedThe radar sensor's capacity to detect vehicles ahead is impeded:
• if the speed of the vehicle ahead differsgreatly from your vehicle's speed.
Limited field of visionThe radar sensor has a limited field of vision. Insome situations it may detect a vehicle later thanexpected or not detect other vehicles at all.
Radar sensor's field of vision
In certain situations, the radar sensor cannot detect vehicles at close quarters, for examplea vehicle that suddenly enters the lanebetween your vehicle and the target vehicle.
Small vehicles, such as motorcycles, or vehi- cles not driving in the center of the lane mayremain undetected.
In curves, the radar sensor may detect the wrong vehicle or lose sight of the target vehi-cle.

Low trailers may also be difficult to detect or may not be detected at all. The driver should be extraalert in situations of this type.
High temperaturesIf the temperature in the passenger compartmentis very high, the camera and radar sensor may betemporarily turned off for approx. 15 minutesafter the engine has been started to protect theirelectronic components. When the temperaturehas cooled sufficiently, the camera and radarsensor will restart automatically.

Blind Spot Information (BLIS) *

Blind Spot Information functionality may be reduced in certain situations.
• Dirt, ice and snow on the sensors may reduce functionality and prevent the systemfrom providing warnings.
• Do not attach any objects, tape, decals, etc.,on the surface of the sensors.
• BLIS is deactivated if a trailer is attached tothe vehicle's electrical system.

Cross Traffic Alert (CTA) *
Cross Traffic Alert (CTA) is a supplementary part of Blind Spot Information and is intended todetect vehicles crossing behind your vehiclewhile you are backing up.
When does Cross Traffic Alert function
Principle for CTA
CTA supplements BLIS by warning the driver of crossing traffic behind your vehicle, for example,when backing out of a parking space. It is primarily designed to detect another vehicle but in certain cases may also detect pedestriansor smaller objects such as bicycles. CTA is only activated when the vehicle is rolling rearward or when the gear selector is put inreverse.
