4-1. Maintenance and care
Cleaning and protecting the vehicle exterior
■Automatic car washes
● Fold the mirrors and remove the antenna before washing the vehicle.
Start washing from the front of the vehicle. Make sure to re-install the
antenna and extend the mirrors before driving.
● Brushes used in automatic car washes may scratch the vehicle surface
and harm your vehicle’s paint.
● Vehicles with rain-sensing windshield wipers: Turn the wipers off before
washing the vehicle. ( P. 4 3 3 )
■ High pressure car washes
● Do not allow the nozzles of the car wash to come within close proximity
of the windows.
● Before using car wash, check that the fuel filler door on your vehicle is
closed properly.
Perform the following to protect the vehicle and maintain it in prime
condition.
● Working from top to bottom, liberally apply water to the vehicle
body, wheel wells and underside of the vehicle to remove any
dirt and dust.
● Wash the vehicle body using a sponge or soft cloth, such as a
chamois.
● For hard-to-remove marks, use car wash soap and rinse thor-
oughly with water.
● Wipe away any water.
● Wax the vehicle when the waterproof coating deteriorates.
If water does not bead on a clean surface, apply wax when the vehicle
body is cool.

NOTICE
■ When using an automatic car wash (vehicles with rain-sensing wind-
shield wipers)
Set the wiper switch to off. If the wiper switch is in “AUTO”, the wipers may
operate and the wiper blades may be damaged.
■ When using a high pressure car wash
Do not bring the nozzle tip close to boots (rubber or resin manufactured
cover), connectors or the following parts. The parts may be damaged if they
come into contact with high-pressure water.
• Traction related parts
• Steering parts
• Suspension parts
• Brake parts
■ Handling of the camera (vehicles with rear view monitor system)
● As the camera has a water proof construction, do not detach, disassemble
or modify it. This may cause incorrect operation.
● If dirt or foreign matter (such as water droplets, snow, mud etc.) is adher-
ing to the camera, it cannot transmit a clear image. In this case, flush it
with a large quantity of water and wipe the camera lens clean with a soft
and wet cloth.
● Do not allow organic solvent, car wax, window cleaner or glass coat to
adhere to the camera. If this happens, wipe it off as soon as possible.
● When washing the vehicle, do not apply intensive bursts of water to the
camera or camera area. Doing so may result in the camera malfunction-
ing.

5-2. Steps to take in an emergency
VERSO_EE_OM64517E
WARNING
■ Driving to spread the liquid sealant evenly
Observe the following precautions to reduce the risk of accidents.
Failing to do so may result in a loss of vehicle control and cause death or
serious injury.
● Drive the vehicle carefully at a low speed. Be especially careful when turn-
ing and cornering.
● If the vehicle does not drive straight or you feel a pull through the steering
wheel, stop the vehicle and check the following.
• Tire condition. The tire may have separated from the wheel.
• Tire inflation pressure. If the tire inflation pressure is 130 kPa (1.3
kgf/cm2 or bar, 19 psi) or less, the tire may be severely damaged.
NOTICE
■ When performing an emergency repair
● A tire should only be repaired with the emergency tire puncture repair kit if
the damage is caused by a sharp object such as nail or screw passing
through the tire tread.
Do not remove the sharp object from the tire. Removing the object may
widen the opening and disenable emergenc y repair with the repair kit.
● The repair kit is not waterproof. Make sure that the repair kit is not
exposed to water, such as when it is being used in the rain.
● Do not put the repair kit directly onto dusty ground such as sand at the
side of the road. If the repair kit vacuums up dust etc., a malfunction may
occur.
