PCS (Pre-Collision System)
: If equipped
The pre-collision system uses a radar sensor and camera sen-
sor to detect vehicles and pedestrians in front of your vehicle.
When the system determines that the possibility of a frontal col-
lision with a vehicle or pedestrian is high, a warning operates to
urge the driver to take evasive action and the potential brake
pressure is increased to help the driver avoid the collision. If the
system determines that the possibility of a frontal collision with
a vehicle or pedestrian is extremely high, the brakes are auto-
matically applied to help avoid the collision or help reduce the
impact of the collision.
The pre-collision system can be disabled/enabled and the warning
timing can be changed. ( P. 325)

• When driving in inclement weather such as heavy rain, fog, snow or a
sandstorm
• When the vehicle is hit by water, snow, dust, etc. from a vehicle ahead
• When driving through steam or smoke
• When driving in a place where the surrounding brightness changes sud-
denly, such as at the entrance or exit of a tunnel
• When a very bright light, such as the sun or the headlights of oncoming
traffic, shines directly into the camera sensor
• When the surrounding area is dim, such as at dawn or dusk, or while at
night or in a tunnel
• After the engine has started the vehicle has not been driven for a certain
amount of time
• While making a left/right turn and for a few seconds after making a left/
right turn
• While driving on a curve and for a few seconds after driving on a curve
• If your vehicle is skidding
• If the wheels are misaligned
• If a wiper blade is blocking the camera sensor
• The vehicle is wobbling.
• The vehicle is being driven at extremely high speeds.
• When driving on a hill
• If the radar sensor or camera sensor is misaligned
● In some situations such as the following, sufficient braking force may not be
obtained, preventing the system from performing properly:
• If the braking functions cannot operate to their full extent, such as when
the brake parts are extremely cold, extremely hot, or wet
• If the vehicle is not properly maintained (brakes or tires are excessively
worn, improper tire inflation pressure, etc.)
• When the vehicle is being driven on a gravel road or other slippery sur-
face
• If the front of the vehicle is raised or
lowered

■ If the PCS warning light flashes or illuminates and a warning message is
displayed on the multi-information display
The pre-collision system may be tem porarily unavailable or there may be a
malfunction in the system.
● In the following situations, the warning light will turn off, the message will
disappear and the system will beco me operational when normal operating
conditions return:
• When the radar sensor or camera s ensor or the area around either sen-
sor is hot, such as in the sun
• When the radar sensor or camera s ensor or the area around either sen-
sor is cold, such as in an extremely cold environment
• When a front sensor is dirty or covered with snow, etc.
• When the part of the windshield in front of the camera sensor is fogged
up or covered with condensation or ice.
(Defogging the windshield: P. 493, 502)
• If the camera sensor is obstructed, such as when the hood is open or a
sticker is attached to the windshield near the camera sensor
● If the PCS warning light continues to flash or remains illuminated or the
warning message does not disappear even though the vehicle has returned
to normal, the system may be malfunctioning. Have the vehicle inspected by
any authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any reliable
repairer immediately.
■ If VSC is disabled
● If VSC is disabled (P. 389), the pre-collision brake assist and pre-collision
braking functions are also disabled.
● The PCS warning light will turn on and “VSC TURNED OFF PRE-COLLI-
SION BRAKE SYSTEM UNAVAILABLE”/“VSC Turned Off Pre-Collision
Brake System Unavailable” will be di splayed on the multi-information dis-
play.

When trouble arises
Brake Override System warning light (if equipped)
Indicates that the accelerator and brake pedal are being
depressed simultaneously if the warning light comes on
( P. 241)
 Release the accelerator pedal and depress the brake
pedal.
Indicates a malfunction in the Brake Override System if
the warning light flashes
 Have the vehicle inspected by any authorized Toyota
retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any reliable
repairer immediately.
(Flashes or illuminates)
PCS warning light (if equipped)
Indicates a malfunction in the PCS (Pre-Collision System)
or that the system is temporarily unavailable due to the
vehicle being extremely hot/c old, or dirt around a front
sensor, etc.
 Follow the instructions displayed on the multi-infor-
mation display. ( P. 333, 618)
If the PCS (Pre-Collision System) or VSC (Vehicle Stability
Control) system is disabled, the PCS warning light will illu-
minate.

LDA indicator (warning buzzer) (if equipped on vehicles
with multi-information display type B)
Indicates that the LDA (Lane Departure Alert) system is
not available temporarily or has detected a malfunction
when the warning light is illuminated in yellow and a warn-
ing message is displayed on the multi-information display.

Carrying out the corresponding action turns the warning light off.
■Front passenger detection sensor, seat belt reminder and warning
buzzer
● If luggage is placed on a front passenger seat, the front passenger detection
sensor may cause the warning light to flash and the warning buzzer to
sound even if a passenger is not sitting in the seat.
● If a cushion is placed on the seat, the sensor may not detect a passenger,
and the warning light may not operate properly.
■ If the malfunction indicator lamp comes on while driving
For some models, malfunction indicator lamp will come on if the fuel tank
becomes completely empty. If the fuel tank is empty, refuel the vehicle imme-
diately. The malfunction indicator lamp will go off after several trips.
If the malfunction indicator lamp does not go off, contact any authorized
Toyota retailer or Toyota authorized repai rer, or any reliable repairer as soon
as possible.

●Vehicles without smart entry & start system:
It is locked to prevent theft of the vehicle if the key is removed from the
engine switch. ( P. 2 6 8 )
●Vehicles with smart entry & start system:
It is locked automatically to prevent theft of the vehicle. ( P. 274)
●Is the window lock switch pressed?
The power window except for the one at the driver’s seat cannot be oper-
ated if the window lock switch is pressed. ( P. 233)
●The auto power off function will be operated if the vehicle is left in ACCES-
SORY or IGNITION ON mode (the engine is not operating) for a period of
time. ( P. 273)
●The seat belt reminder light is flashing
Are the driver and passengers wearing the seat belts? ( P. 614)
●The parking brake indicator light is on
Is the parking brake released? ( P. 291)
Depending on the situation, other types of warning buzzer may also sound.
( P. 610, 618)
●Did anyone inside the vehicle open a door during setting the alarm?
The sensor detects it and the alarm sounds. ( P. 119)
To stop the alarm, turn the engine switch to the “ON” position (vehicles with-
out smart entry & start system) or IGNITION ON mode (vehicles with smart
entry & start system) or start the engine.
The steering wheel cannot be turned after the engine is
stopped
The windows do not open or close by operating the power
window switches (if equipped)
The engine switch is turned off automatically
(vehicles with smart entry & start system)
A warning buzzer sounds during driving
An alarm is activated and the horn sounds (if equipped)
