Do-it-yourself service precautions
If you perform maintenance by yourself, be sure to follow the
correct procedure as given in these sections.

“Toyota Super Long Life Coolant” is pre-mixed with
50% coolant and 50% deionized water.
Canada:
“Toyota Super Long Life Coolant” is pre-mixed with
55% coolant and 45% deionized water.
• Funnel (used only for adding engine coolant)
Engine oil level

● Lithium battery CR2016 (vehicles without a smart key system), or
CR2032 (vehicles with a smart key system)
Vehicles without a smart key system (type A)
Remove the cover.
To prevent damage to the key,
cover the tip of the screwdriver with
a rag.
To prevent the buttons from being
disassembled, face the button sur-
face downward.
Remove the module.
Open the case cover using a
coin protected with tape etc.
and remove the depleted bat-
tery using a small flathead
screwdriver.
Insert a new battery with the “+”
terminal facing up.
Wireless remote cont rol/electronic key
battery
Replace the battery with a new one if it is depleted.

Vehicles without a smart key system (type B)
Remove the cover.
To prevent damage to the key,
cover the tip of the screwdriver with
a rag.
To prevent the buttons from being
disassembled, face the button sur-
face downward.
Remove the module.
Open the case cover using a
coin protected with tape etc.
and remove the depleted bat-
tery using a small flathead
screwdriver.
Insert a new battery with the “+”
terminal facing up.

Vehicles with a smart key system
Take out the mechanical key.
Remove the cover.
To prevent damage to the key,
cover the tip of the screwdriver with
a rag.
Remove the depleted battery
using a small flathead screw-
driver.
Insert a new battery with the “+”
terminal facing up.

License plate lights
Remove the cover.
To prevent damaging the vehi-
cle, wrap the tip of the flathead
screwdriver with tape.
Remove the lens.
Put the flathead screwdriver
behind the tab of the lens, and
turn it as shown in the illustra-
tion to pry off the lens.
To prevent damaging the vehi-
cle, wrap the tip of the screw-
driver with tape.
Remove the light bulb.
When installing, reve rse the steps listed.
■Replacing the following bulbs
If any of the lights listed below has burnt out, have it replaced by
your Toyota dealer.
● Headlight low/high beams (LED type)
● Parking lights/daytime running lights (LED type)
● High mounted stoplights

Set the parking brake.
Vehicles without a smart key system: Turn the engine switch to the
“ACC” position.
Vehicles with a smart key system: Turn the engine switch to
ACCESSORY mode.
Depress the brake pedal.
Pry the cover up with a flathead
screwdriver or equivalent tool.
To prevent damage to the cover,
cover the tip of the screwdriver with
a rag.
Press the shift lock override
button.
The shift lever can be shifted while
the button is pressed.
If the shift lever cannot be shifted from P
If the shift lever cannot be shifted with your foot on the brake
pedal, there may be a problem with the shift lock system (a sys-
tem to prevent accidental operation of the shift lever). Have the
vehicle inspected by your Toyota dealer immediately.
The following steps may be used as an emergency measure to
ensure that the shift lever can be shifted:
