installed near the
sensor
 The Ultrasonic misacc
eleration Mitigation
System operation may be cancelled when the system recognizes evasive actions by the driver to avoid a co
llision or
when the
obstacle moves out of
the detection range
of the sensor. In certain situations,
though there is little
or no risk of a col
lision, the Ultrasonic
misacceleration Mitigation System mayactivate. Examples include:• When a vehicle ahea
d or an oncoming
vehicle is splashing wa
ter, snow or dirt.
• When a bump or step
is ahead of the
vehicle.WA R N I N G
• When a parking gate or crossing gate isnot fully opened.• When the vehicle is in smoke, fog or steam.• When attempting to park the vehiclevery close to another
vehicle or
an object.
• When the vehicle is exiting from parallel parking.• When the system detects ultrasonicnoise, such as the noise from motorcycle engines, brakes, radios, pouring rain,splashing water, tire chains or a ultra- sonic wave from a sonar sensor on another vehicle.• If an aftermarket el
ectrical device, such
as a radio antenna, is
installed near the
sensor.• When the vehicle is
on a gravel road.
• When the vehicle is in a tall grass area.The Ultrasonic misacc

System should be tuned off if any of fol- lowing situations occur:• When attempting to get out of a roadgroove or a mud.• When using an automatic car wash.• When the vehicle is entering or exiting a car elevator.• When your vehicle is on a chassis dyna-mometer or free rollers.• When your vehicle is
towed or
your vehi-
cle tows another vehicle.• When your vehicle is
carried on a truck.

• When driving on a circuit.• When the tires are not properly inflated.• When the ultrasonic sensor and its sur- rounding area is damaged or deformed.CAUTION To maintain proper perf
ormance of the Ultra-
sonic misaccelerati
on Mitigation System,
follow the instructions below.• Do not hit or apply load to the sensors.• Wipe the sensors and surrounding areas ifan object, such as dirt, adheres.• Do not cover the sensors.• Do not modify the suspension of your vehi- cle.
 If the bumper has experienced an impact, the sensor area may have
been damaged and the
Ultrasonic misacceleration Mitigation Sys-tem may not function
properly. Have the
vehicle inspected at an
authorized Mitsubishi

If your vehicle is equipped with a towing hitch and part of the towing hitch is close tothe center sensors (e. g.
European type towing
hitch), the center sens
or may detect the tow-
ing hitch and the alarm beeps may soundthough there is no obstacle behind the vehi- cle. To avoid this dete
ction, the parking sen-
sors can be switched to the towing hitchmode. The detection areas ar
e within approximately
24 inches (60 cm) (A) from the front and cor- ner sensors, and 49 inches (125 cm) (B) from the back sensors. The
system will not detect
the areas (C), within approximately 8 inches (20 cm) (D) from the rear bumper.
To switch to the towing hitch mode and return to the normal mode, refer to “Changing thedetection mode” on page 5-150.

When the engine switch is tuned on, the park- ing sensors will be
automatically tuned on
and the operation indica
tor light (A) will be
illuminated. To turn off the parking sensors, press the “SONAR” switch. The operation indicatorlight will go off. To turn back on the parking sensors, press the “SONAR” switch again.
Towing hitch mode
NOTE
 The ultrasonic sensors
do not dete
ct objects
in areas directly below or very close to thebumpers. If the height of an object is lowerthan the sensors, the sensors may not con- tinue detecting it
while the vehicle is
approaching the object, even if the sensorshave initially detected it.

To switch to the towing hitch mode; While the selector lever is in the “R” sensors by pressing
the “SONAR” switch,
then press and hold the “SONAR” switch approximately 3 seconds or more and release it. A buzzer will sound tw
ice to indicate the
detection mode is sw
itched to the towing
hitch mode. To turn on the parking sensors, press the “SONAR” switch again. To return to the normal mode; While the selector lever is in the “R”sensors by pressing
the “SONAR” switch,
then press and hold the “SONAR” switch approximately 3 seconds or more and releaseit. A buzzer will sound once to indicate the detection mode is returned to the normal mode. To turn on the parking sensors, pressthe “SONAR” switch again.

If the system detects a
problem with a sensor,
a warning is displayed in the multi-informa- tion display and a buzzer will sound for approximately five seconds.
Also, the indicator light (A) on the “SONAR”
inking until the sensor
resumes functioning. Have the vehicle inspected at an authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer or a repair facilityof your choice.

When the selector lever is in the “R”
the ignition switch
in the “ON” position, or the operation mode is put in ON, the rear-view image will be dis- played on the screen of the Mitsubishi Multi-Communication System, the Smartphone Link Display Audio or the DISPLAY AUDIO.
NOTE
 The detection mode wi
ll not change if you
keep the “SONAR” switch pressed for 10 seconds or more.
 In the normal mode, even after the “SONAR” switch has been pressed to turnoff the parking sensors, the two rear centersensors will continue
functioning while the
selector lever is in the “R” (REVERSE) posi- tion.
