manual will add to your understanding and full enjoyment of
the many fine features of this vehicle.
It contains information prepared to acquaint you with the proper way to oper-
ate and maintain your vehicle for the utmost in driving pleasure.

design and specifications and/or to make additions to or improvements in
this product without obligation to install them on products previously manu- factured.
It is an absolute requirement for the driver to strictly observe all laws and
regulations concerning vehicles.
This owner’s manual has been written in compliance with such laws and reg-
ulations, but some of the contents may become contradictory with later amendment of the laws and regulations.
Please leave this owner’s manual in this vehicle at time of resale. The next
owner will appreciate having access to the information contained in this
owner’s manual.

serve as reminders to be especially careful. Failure to follow instruc-
tions could result in personal injury or damage to your vehicle. WARNING
indicates a strong possibility of severe personal injury or death if in- structions are not followed. CAUTION
means hazards or unsafe practices that could cause minor personal in-
jury or damage to your vehicle.
You will see another important symbol: NOTE: gives helpful information.

Put the operation mode in OFFand then start the engine again.
If the warning is not cancelled, there is a fault in the electronic
immobilizer (Anti-theft starting
system).

In the following cases, a warning is activated,
but it can be cancelled if the correct actions are followed.
l The ID codes for the keyless operation
key and vehicle do not match.
You could be carrying another
keyless operation key with a dif- ferent code, or the keyless oper-
ation key could be outside the operating range.Refer to “Keyless operation key
take-out monitoring system” on
page 3-15.
l Even though you press the driver’s or
front passenger’s door lock/unlock
switch, or the tailgate LOCK switch, the
doors and tailgate are not locked.

When the vehicle is parked with the opera- tion mode in any mode other than OFF, if
you close the door after opening any of the doors and taking the keyless operation key
out of the vehicle, a warning displays and the buzzer sounds 4 times.
NOTEl If you take the keyless operation key out of
the vehicle through a window without open-
ing a door, the keyless operation key take- out monitoring system does not operate.
l It is possible to change the setting to make
the keyless operation key take-out monitor- ing system operate if you take the keylessoperation key out from the vehicle through a
window without opening a door. For further information, please contact yourMITSUBISHI MOTORS Authorized Serv-
ice Point.
l Even if you have the keyless operation key
within the engine start operating range, if the
keyless operation key and vehicle ID codes
cannot be matched, for example due to the
ambient environment or electromagnetic conditions, the warning may be activated.Key lock-in prevention system

When the operation mode is in OFF, if youclose all the doors and the tailgate with the
keyless operation key left in the vehicle and you try to lock the doors and tailgate by
pressing the driver’s or front passenger’s door lock/unlock switch, or the tailgate
LOCK switch, a warning is issued with the warning display and the buzzer buzzing for
approximately 3 seconds and you cannot lock the doors and tailgate.NOTEl Make sure you have the keyless operation
key with you before locking the doors. Even
if you leave the keyless operation key inside the vehicle, it is possible that the doors will

the driver’s or front passenger’s door lock/
unlock switch, or the tailgate LOCK switch with one of the doors or the tailgate not com-pletely closed, a warning is issued with the

When the operation mode is in any mode oth- er than OFF, if you close all the doors and the
tailgate then try to lock the doors and tailgate by pressing the driver’s or front passenger’s
door lock/unlock switch, or the tailgate LOCK switch, a warning is issued with the warning display and the buzzer buzzing for
approximately 3 seconds and you cannot lock the doors and tailgate.

To lock
Press the engine switch to put the operation
mode in OFF. Open one of the doors.
To unlock
The following methods can be used to unlock
the steering wheel.
l Put the operation mode in ACC.
l Start the engine.
CAUTIONl If the engine is stopped while driving, do not
open a door or press the UNLOCK switch on the remote control switch until the vehi-
cle stops in a safe place. This could cause the steering wheel to lock, making it impos- sible to operate the vehicle.
l Carry the key with you when leaving the ve-
hicle.
If your vehicle needs to be towed, put the operation mode in ACC to unlock the steer-ing wheel.NOTEl When the following operation is performed
with the operation mode in OFF, the steering wheel is locked.

NOTElFor diesel-powered vehicles, if the tempera-
ture inside the engine compartment is high,
the cooling fans (A) will continue to operate for some time even if the engine is stopped.
Therefore, the operation sound of the cool-
ing fans may be heard even after the engine is stopped. This sound is normal and does
not indicate a malfunction.
After operating for a period of time, the cooling fans will stop automatically.

If the keyless operation key is
not operating properly

Insert the keyless operation key into the key
slot in the glove box. Starting the engine and changing the operation mode should now be possible.
Remove the keyless operation key from the
key slot after starting the engine or changing the operation mode.NOTEl Do not insert into the key slot anything other
than the keyless operation key. This couldcause damage or a malfunction.
l Remove the object or additional key from
the the keyless operation key before insert-ing the key into the key slot. The vehicle
may not be able to receive the registered ID
code from the registered key. Therefore, the engine may not start and the operation mode
may not change.
l The keyless operation key is fixed in the key
slot when inserted in the illustrated direc-
tion. Simply pull out the key to remove it from the key slot.Keyless operation key reminder
If the operation mode is in OFF and the driv-
er’s door is opened with the keyless operationkey in the key slot, a warning is issued with the warning display and the buzzer buzzing
for approximately 3 seconds to remind you to
remove the key.

For vehicles equipped with the keyless op-
eration system
If the driver’s door is opened with the engine stopped and the operation mode in any posi-
tion other than OFF, the operation mode ON reminder buzzer sounds intermittently to re-
mind you to put the operation mode in OFF.
In addition, the warning display will be dis- played on the information screen in the multi-information display.
Central door locks
E00300801777NOTElEach of the doors can be locked or unlocked
independently by using the inside lock knob.
l When locking or unlocking with the key on
the driver’s door, only the driver’s door will
lock or unlock.NOTEl Repeated continuous operation between lock
and unlock could activate the central door
locking systems built-in protection circuit
and prevent the system from operating.
If this occurs, wait approximately 1 minute before operating the central door lockswitch.
l When the driver’s door is open, the central
door lock switch cannot be used to lock it.

You can select the functions to unlock the doors and tailgate either using the ignition
switch or the engine switch, or using the se- lector lever position A/T or CVT).
These functions are not activated when the vehicle is shipped from the factory. To acti-
vate or deactivate these functions, please contact a MITSUBISHI MOTORS Author-
ized Service Point.

Always stop the vehicle in a safe place before operating. The following information is included on the multi-information display: warnings, odometer, tripmeter, service reminder, engine coolant temper- ature, fuel remaining, outside temperature, selector lever position, 4WD operation status, average and momentary fuel consumption, driving

Each time the multi-information meter switch
is operated, a sound is emitted and the multi-
information display changes between infor- mation such as warnings, odometer (Type 1),
tripmeter, service reminder, engine coolant temperature (Type 1), average and momenta-
ry fuel consumption, driving range, and aver-
age speed.
It is also possible to change elements such as the language and units used on the multi-in-formation display by operating the multi-in-
formation meter switch.

If you press the multi-infor-
mation meter switch and re-turn from the warning dis-
play screen to the previous screen, the
mark is dis-
played.
Refer to “To return to the screen displayed before the warning display” on page 5-07.
This mark is also displayed if there is another
warning other than the one displayed. When
the cause of the warning display is elimina- ted, the
mark goes out automatically.
NOTEl When the mark is displayed, the warning
display screen can be redisplayed on the in- formation screen.

The odometer indicates the distance travel-led.
Tripmeter
The tripmeter indicates the distance travelled
between two points.

To return the display to 0, hold down the
multi-information meter switch for about 2
