Low-beam headlamps (halogen head-
lamps)
XRemove the cover in the front wheel hous-
ing (
Ypage 122).
XTurn housing cover:counter-clockwise
and remove it.
XTurn bulb holder ;counter-clockwise and
pull out.
XPull the bulb out of bulb holder ;.
XInsert the new bulb into bulb holder ;.
XInsert bulb holder;and turn it clockwise.
XPress on housing cover :and turn it to the
right.
XReplace the cover in the front wheel hous-
ing (
Ypage 122).
High-beam headlamps/daytime run-
ning lamps/parking lamps and stand-
ing lamps (halogen headlamps)
XSwitch off the lights.
XOpen the hood.
XTurn housing cover :counter-clockwise
and remove it.
XTurn bulb ;counter-clockwise and pull it
out.
XInsert the new bulb and engage it to the
stop.
XPress on housing cover :and turn it to the
right.
Turn signals (halogen headlamps)
XSwitch off the lights.
XOpen the hood.
XTurn bulb holder :counter-clockwise and
pull out.
XPull the bulb out of bulb holder :.
XInsert the new bulb into bulb holder :.
XInsert bulb holder:and turn it clockwise
until it engages.

XSwitch off the lights.
XOpen the hood.
XTurn housing cover :counter-clockwise
and remove it.

You must open the side paneling in the cargo
compartment before you can replace the
bulbs in the tail lamps.
XTo open: turn release knob :counter-
clockwise and remove side trim panel ;.
XTo close:insert side trim panel ;and turn
release knob :clockwise.
Right-hand side trim panel
You must open the side paneling in the cargo
compartment before you can replace the
bulbs in the tail lamps.
XTo open: release right-hand trim panel :
at the top and fold it down in the direction
of the arrow.
XTo close: insert side paneling :.
Tail lamps
Due to their location, have the bulbs in the
backup lamp (vehicles with halogen head-
lamps) and rear fog lamp in the tailgate
changed at a qualified specialist workshop.
XSwitch off the lights.
XOpen the cargo compartment.
XOpen the side trim panel (Ypage 124).
XRelease and remove connector ;.
XHold the tail lamp and unscrew fender
nut:.
XRemove the tail lamp.

XLoosen screws=using a screwdriver.
XRemove the bulb holder from the tail lamp.

XTurn signal: press the bulb gently into the
bulb holder, turn it counter-clockwise and
remove it from the bulb holder.
XInsert the new bulb into bulb holder and
turn it clockwise.
XBrake lamp: remove the corresponding
bulb from the bulb holder.
XInsert the new bulb into the bulb holder.
XInsert the bulb holder into the tail lamp and
screw it firmly into place using screws =.
XInsert the tail lamp into the vehicle.
XTighten fender nut:and re-establish con-
tact with connector ;.
XClose the side trim panel (Ypage 124).
Windshield wipers
Switching the windshield wipers
on/off
!
Do not operate the windshield wipers
when the windshield is dry, as this could
damage the wiper blades. Moreover, dust
that has collected on the windshield can
scratch the glass if wiping takes place when
the windshield is dry.
If it is necessary to switch on the windshield
wipers in dry weather conditions, always use washer fluid when operating the wind-
shield wipers.
!If the windshield wipers leave smears on
the windshield after the vehicle has been
washed in an automatic car wash, wax or
other residues may be the reason for this.
Clean the windshield using washer fluid
after washing the vehicle in an automatic
car wash.

!Vehicles with a rain sensor: if the wind-
shield becomes dirty in dry weather condi-
tions, the windshield wipers may be activa-
ted inadvertently. This could then damage
the windshield wiper blades or scratch the
windshield.
For this reason, you should always switch
off the windshield wipers in dry weather.
Vehicles with a rain sensor: in the Äor
Å position, the appropriate wiping fre-
quency is automatically set according to the
intensity of the rain. In the Åposition, the

rain sensor is more sensitive than in theÄ
position, causing the windshield wiper to wipe
more frequently.
If the wiper blades are worn, the windshield
will no longer be wiped properly. This could
prevent you from observing the traffic condi-
tions.

Replacing the wiper blades
Important safety notes
GWARNING
If the windshield wipers begin to move while
you are changing the wiper blades, you could
be trapped by the wiper arm. There is a risk of
injury.
Always switch off the windshield wipers and
ignition before changing the wiper blades.
!To avoid damaging the wiper blades,
make sure that you touch only the wiper
arm of the wiper.
!Never open the hood/tailgate if a wiper
arm has been folded away from the wind-
shield/rear window.
Never fold a windshield wiper arm without a
wiper blade back onto the windshield/rear
window.
Hold the windshield wiper arm firmly when
you change the wiper blade. If you release
the wiper arm without a wiper blade and it
falls onto the windshield/rear window, the
windshield/rear window may be damaged
by the force of the impact.
Mercedes-Benz recommends that you have
the wiper blades changed at a qualified
specialist workshop.

With the other hand, turn wiper blade in
direction of arrow :away from the wiper
arm as far as it will go.
XSlide catch ;in the direction of arrow =
until it engages in the removal position with
a noticeable click.
XRemove the wiper blade in the direction of
arrow ?away from the wiper arm.

XSlide catch;in the direction of arrow =
until it engages in the locking position with a noticeable click.
XMake sure that the wiper blade is seated
correctly.
XFold the wiper arm back onto the wind-
shield.
XRemove protective film :of the service
indicator on the tip of the wiper blade.
If the color of the service indicator changes
from black to yellow, the wiper blades should
be replaced.
iThe duration of the color change varies
depending on the usage conditions.

Optimum use of dual-zone automatic
climate control
Climate control system
The following contains instructions and rec-
ommendations to enable you to get the most
out of your 3-zone automatic climate control.
RActivate climate control using the Ãand
¿ buttons. The indicator lamps in the
à and¿ buttons light up.
RSet the temperature to 72 ‡ (22 †).
ROnly use the "Windshield defrosting" func-
tion briefly until the windshield is clear
again.
ROnly use air-recirculation mode briefly, e.g.
if there are unpleasant outside odors or
when in a tunnel. The windows could oth-
erwise fog up, since no fresh air is drawn
into the vehicle in air-recirculation mode.
RUse the ZONE function to adopt the tem-
perature settings on the driver's side for
the front-passenger side as well. The indi-
cator lamp in the ábutton goes out.
