ro ryo u ha veselected.
An outside mir ror which has been pushed out of
position can be engaged in position again in the
fo llowing manner:
#Ve hicles with electrical lyfolding outside
mir rors:press and hold button 1.
Yo uwill hear a click and the mir ror audibly
engage in position. The mir ror is set into the
cor rect position.
Au tomatic anti-glare mir rors
&
WARNING Risk of burn s and poisoning
due tothe anti- glare mir ror electrolyte
Electrolyte may escape if theglass in an
automatic anti-glare mir ror breaks.
The electrolyte is harmful and causes ir rita ‐
tion. It must not come into contact wi thyour
skin, eyes,respiratory organs or clo thing or
be swallo wed.
#Ifyo u come into contact with electro‐
ly te , obser vethefo llowing:
RRinse the electrolyte from your skin
and seek medical attention immedi‐
atel y.
RIf electrolyte comes into contact
with your eyes, rinse them thor‐
oughly with clean water and seek
medical attention immediately.
RIf th e electrolyte is swallo wed,
immediately rinse your mouth out
th oroughl y.Do not induce vomiting.
Seek medical attention immediately.

which has come into con tact wi th
electrolyte.
RIf an allergic reaction occurs, seek
medical attention immediatel y.
The insiderearview mir ror and outside mir ror on
th e driver's side automatically go into anti- glare
mode if light from a headlamp hits the inside
re arview mir ror.
Sy stem limitations
The mir rors do not go into anti- glare mode in the
fo llowing situations:
Rth e engine is switched off
Rreve rsege ar is engaged
Rinterior lighting is switch ed on
Parking position of the passenger outside
mir ror
The parking position makes parking easier.
The passenger outside mir ror tilts down and
sho wsthere ar wheel on the front passenger
side if:
Rth e parking position is stored
Rth e passenger mir ror is selected
Rreve rsege ar is engaged
The passenger outside mir ror mo ves back toits
original position in thefo llowing situations:
Rifyo u shift the transmission toano ther trans‐
mission position
Rwhen driving fasterthan 9 mph (15 km/h)

tion is not active.

RAn automatic engine start is necessar y.
If th e engine was switched off bythe ECO start/
st op function and you lea vetheve hicle, a warn‐

also appears in the multifunction displa y.
If yo udo not swit choff the ignition, the ignition
is automatically switched off af ter one minute. Deactivating or activating
the ECO start/
st op function
#Press button 1.
If indicator lamp 2lights up, the ECO start/
st op function is switched on.
% Depending on the model, the button may
also be located at a dif fere nt position in the
center console.
ECO displ ay
The ECO display summarizes the driving style
from thest art of the journey toits completion
and assists you in achieving the most economi‐
cal driving style.

Electric parking brake
Automatically applying the electric parking
brake

If yo u lea vechildren unaccompanied in the
ve hicle, they may be able toset theve hicle in
motion, forex ample by:
RRe leasing the parking brake.
RShifting the transmission out of park
position j.
RStarting the engine.
In addition, they may operate vehicle equip‐
ment.

The electric parking brake is applied if the trans‐
mission is in position jand one of thefo llow‐
ing conditions is fulfilled:
RThe engine is switched off.
RThe seat belt tongue is not inser ted in the
seat belt buckle of the driver's seat and the
driver's door is opened.
% Toprev ent application: pull the handle of the
electric parking brake.
In thefo llowing situations, the electric parking
brake is also engaged:
RThe Dis tance Pilot DISTRONIC brings the
ve hicle toast andstill.
RThe HOLD function is keeping theve hicle sta‐
tionar y.
RParking Pilot is keeping theve hicle station‐
ar y. This is only
the case if one of thefo llowing con‐
ditions is also fulfilled:
RThe engine is switched off.
RThe seat belt tongue is not inser ted in the
seat belt buckle of the driver's seat and the
driver's door is opened.
RThere is a sy stem malfunction.
RThe po wer supply is insuf ficient.
RThe vehicle is stationary for a lengt hyperiod.
When the electric parking brake is applied, the
F (USA) or !(Canada) indicator lamp
lights up in the instrument clus ter.
The electric parking brake is not automatically
applied if the engine is switched off bythe ECO
st art/ stop function.
Re leasing the electric pa rking brake auto‐
matically
The elect ric park ing brake is released when the
fo llo wing c
onditions are fulfilled:
RThe engine is
running.
RThe seat belt tongue is inser ted into the seat
belt buckle of the driver's seat.

If Dis tance Pilot DISTRONIC no longer
de tects a vehicle in front, it may unexpect‐
edly accelerate tothe speed stored.
RThis speed may be too high for a turning
lane or an exit lane.
RIf driving in theright lane, this speed may
be so high that you pass vehicles driving
on the left (in count ries where tra ffic
drives on theright).
RIf driving in the left lane, this speed may
be so high that you pass vehicles driving
on theright (in countri es where traffic
drives on the left).
Alw ays carefully obser vethe tra ffic condi‐
tions and be ready tobrake at all times.

matically
If Dis tance Pilot DISTRONIC pe rforms an
automatic driving-off procedure, theve hicle
may accelerate unexpectedl y.

Limit Pilot adapting theve hicle's speed
The speed adop tedby the Speed Limit Pilot
may be too high or incor rect in some individ‐
ual cases, such as:
RInthewe t or in fog
RWhen towing a trailer
Ensure that the driven speed complies with
traf fic re gulations.
Re quirementsRThe vehicle's engine or must be switched on.
RThe electric parking brake must be released.
RPa rking Pilot is not being used topark the
ve hicle or toexit from a parking space.
RESP®must be switched on, but not inter ven‐
ing.
RThe transmission must be in positionD.
RThe driver door, front passenger door and the
re ar doors must be closed.
RThe engine hood must be closed.
