GWARNING
If you switch off the ignitio nwhile driving,
safety-relevant functions are only available
with limitations, or not at all .This coul daffect,
for example, the power steering and the brake
boosting effect. You wil lrequire considerably
more effort to steer and brake. There is arisk
of an accident.
Do not switch off the ignitio nwhile driving.
GWARNING
If the parking brake has not been fully
released when driving, the parking brake can:
Roverheat and caus eafire
Rlose its hold function.
There is arisk of fire and an accident. Release
the parking brake full ybefore driving off.
!Do not war mupthe engine with the vehicle
stationary. Drive off immediately. Avoid high
engine speeds and driving at full throttle until
the engine has reache dits operating temper-
ature.
Only shift the automatic transmission to the
desired drive position when the vehicleiss ta-
tionary.
Where possible,a voids pinning the drive
wheels when pulling awa yonslippery roads.
You coul dotherwise damage the drive train.
!Mercedes-AMG vehicles: at low engine oil
temperatures below 68 ‡(+20 †), the max-
imum engine speedisr estricted in order to
protect the engine. To protect the engine and
maintai nsmooth engine operation, avoi ddriv-
ing at full throttle when the engine is cold.

Start/Stop button
General notes
When you insert the Start/Stop button into the
ignitio nlock, the system needs approximately
two seconds recognitio ntime. You can then use
the Start/Stop button.
Pressing the Start/Stop button severalt imes in
succession corresponds to the different key
positions in the ignitio nlock. This is only the
case if you are not depressing the brake pedal.
If you depress the brake pedala nd press the
Start/Stop button, the engine starts immedi-
ately.
Ac heck which periodically establishe saradio
connection between the vehiclea nd the Smart-
Key determines whethe ravalidS martKey is in
the vehicle. This occurs, for example, when
starting the engine.

The electric parking brake secures the vehicle
automatically if the HOLD function is activated
when the vehicle is stationary and:
Rasystem malfunction occurs.
Rthe power supply is not sufficient.
If am alfunction occurs, then the transmission
may be shifted into position Pautomatically.
RACE START
Important safety notes
iRACE START must not be used on normal
roads. RACE START must only be activated
and used on dedicated road circuits ,outside
of public road use.
iRACE START is only availablei n
Mercedes ‑AMG vehicles.
RACE START enables optimal acceleration from
as tandin gstart .For this, asuitably high-grip
road surface is required, along with the tires and
vehicle being in proper operating condition.
GWARNING
If you use RACE START, individual tires may
start to spin and the vehicle could skid.
Dependin gonthe selected ESP
®mode, there
is an increased risk of skidding and having an accident .Make sure that no persons, animals
or obstacles are within range of the vehicle.

Be sure to read the safety notes and informa-
tion on ESP

Conditions for activation
You can activate RACE START if:
Rthe doors are closed.
Rthe engine is runnin gand it has reached an
operating temperature of approximately
160 ‡(71 †). This is the case when the oil
temperature gauge in the multifunction dis-
play is shown in white.
Rthe drive program S,S+ orRace is selected.

Rthe steerin gwheel is in the straight-ahead
position.
Rthe vehicle is stationary and the brake pedal is
depressed (left foot).
Rthe transmission is in position D.
Activating RACE START
iWhen manual mode (Ypage 146) is active,
the transmission automatically shifts up to
RACE START in the drive program. This func-
tion supports maximum acceleration with
RACE START. After going through an acceler-
ating process once from astationary position,
this function is automatically deactivated.
XDepress the brake pedal with your left foot
and keep it depressed.
XPull and hold both steerin gwheel paddle shift-
ers (Ypage 146).
The RACE START Confirm: Paddle UP
Cancel: Paddle DOWNmessage appears in
the multifunction display.
XRelease both steerin gwheel paddle shifters
(Ypage 146).
iIf the activation conditions are no longer ful-
filled, RACE START is canceled. The RACE
START Canceledmessage appears in the
multifunction display.
XTo cancel: pull the left steerin gwheel paddle
shifter (Ypage 146).
or
XTo confirm: pull the right steerin gwheel pad-
dle shifter (Ypage 146).

XMake sure that the windshield wipers are
turned off.
XPull release lever:on the hood.
The hood is released.
XReach into the gap, pull hood catch handle ;
up and lift the hood.
If you lift the hood by approximately 15 in
(40 cm), the hood is opened and held open
automatically by the gas-filled strut.
Closing the hood
XLower the hood and let it fall from aheight of
approximately 8in(20 cm).
XCheck that the hood has engaged properly.
If the hood can be raised slightly, it is not
properly engaged. Open it again and close it
withalittle more force.
Radiator
Do not cover up the radiator, such as with a
thermal mat or insect protection cover. The
readings of the on-board-diagnostic system may
otherwise be inaccurate. Some of these read-
ings are required by law and must be accurate at
all times.
Engine oil
Important safety notes
GWARNING
Certain components in the engine compart-
ment, such as the engine, radiator and parts
of the exhaust system, can become very hot.
Working in the engine compartmentp oses a
risk of injury.
Where possible, let the engine cool down and touch only the components described in the
following.
GWARNING
If engine oil comes into contact with hot com- ponentsint he engine compartment, it may
ignite. There is arisk of fire and injury.
Make sure that engine oil is not spilled next to
the filler neck.L et the engine cool down and
thoroughly clean the engine oil off the com-
ponentsb efore startin gthe engine.
General notes
Depending on your driving style, the vehicle
consumes up to 0.9 US qt (0.8 liters) of oil per
600 miles (1,000 km). The oil consumption may
be higher than this when the vehicle is new or if
you frequently drive at high engine speeds.
Depending on the engine, the oil dipstick may be
inad ifferent location.
When checking the oil level:
Rpark the vehicle on alevel surface
Rthe engine should be switched off for approx-
imately five minutes if the engine is at normal
operating temperature
Rall vehicles (except Mercedes-AMG C63/C
63S): if the engine is not at normal operating
temperature, e.g. if the engine was only star-
ted briefly, wait approximately 30 minutes
before carrying out the measurement
The oil level of the Mercedes-AMG C63/C 63 S
must be checked only when the engine is at
normal operating temperature.

safety jackets
The reflective safety jackets are located in the
safety jacket compartments in the stowage
compartments.
XTo remove: pullout safety jacket bag :with
the reflective safety jacket by loop ;.
XOpen safety jacket bag:and pul lout the
reflective safety jacket.
XTo stow: fold the reflective safety jacket, roll
it up and stow it in safety jacket bag :.
XSlidesafety jacket bag :along the lower
edge of the armres tinto the safety jacket
compartment. Meanwhile, ensure that
loop ;hangs out wel lwithi nreach.
iRemove anew reflective safety jacket from
its packaging material before sliding it into
the safety jacket compartment. The packag-
ing material may otherwise caus eittoslipo ut
or make removing it difficult.
Observe the lega lrequirements in each country.
