The securing systems of child restraint systems
are:
Rthe seat belt system
Rthe LATCH-type (ISOFIX) securing rings
Rthe Top Tether anchorages
If it is absolutely necessary to carry achild on
the front-passenger seat, be sure to observe the
information on the "Occupant Classification
System (OCS)" (
Ypage 49). There you will also
find information on deactivatin gthe front-
passenger front air bag.
All child restraint systems must meet the fol-
lowing standards:
RU.S. Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards
213 and 225
RCanadian Motor Vehicle Safety Standards
213 and 210.2
Confirmation that the child restraint system cor-
responds to the standards can be found on an
instruction label on the child restraint system.
This confirmation can also be found in the instal-
lation instructions that are included with the
child restraint system.
Observe the warning labels in the vehicle inte-
rior and on the child restraint system.
LATCH-type( ISOFIX) child seat secur-
ing system
GWARNING
LATCH-type (ISOFIX) child restraint systems
do not offer sufficient protective effect for
children whose weight is greater than 48 lbs
(22 kg )who are secured using the safety belt
integrated in the child restraint system. In the
event of an accident ,achild might not be
restrained correctly. This poses an increased
risk of injury or even fatal injury.
If the child weighs more than 48 lbs (22 kg),
only use LATCH-type (ISOFIX) child restraint
systems with which the child is also secured
with the vehicle seat belt. Also secure the
child restraint system with the Top Tether
belt, if available.
Always comply with the manufacturer's instal-
lation and operating instructions for the child
restraint system used. Before every trip, make sure that the LATCH-
type (ISOFIX) child restraint system is engaged
correctly in both LATCH-type (ISOFIX) securing
rings.
XInstall the LATCH-type (ISOFIX) child restraint
system on both LATCH-type (ISOFIX) securing
rings :.
ISOFIX is astandardized securing system for
specially designed child restraint systems on
the rear seats. LATCH-type (ISOFIX) securing
rings for two LATCH-type (ISOFIX) child restraint
systems are installed on the left and right of the
rear seats.
Non-LATCH-type (ISOFIX) child seats may also
be used and can be installed using the vehicle's
seat belt system. Install the child seat according
to the manufacturer's instructions.
Top Tether
Introduction
Top Tether provides an additional connection
between the child restraint system secured with
aL ATCH-type (ISOFIX) system and the vehicle.
This helps reduce the risk of injury even further.
If the child restraint system is equipped with a
Top Tether belt, this should alwaysbeu sed.
Important safety notes
GWARNING
If the rear seat backrest sare not locked, they
could fold forwards in the event of an acci-
dent, heavy braking or sudden changes of
direction .Asaresult, child restraint systems
cannot perform their intended protective
function. Rear seat backrest sthat are not
locked can also cause additional injuries, e.g.

Always lock rear seat backrestsa fter instal-
ling aTop Tether belt. Observe the lock veri-
fication indicator.
If the rear seat backrest is not engaged and
locked, this will be shown in the multifunction
display in the instrumentc luster.Awarnin gtone
also sounds.
Top Tether anchorages

the child restraint system manufacturer's
installation instructions when doing so.

General notes
Acciden tstatistic sshow that children secured
in the rear seats are safer than children secured
in the front-passenge rseat. For this reason,
Mercedes-Ben zstrongly advises that you install
the child restraint system on arear seat.
If it is absolutely necessary to install achild
restraint system on the front-passenge rseat,
always observe the instructions and safety
notes on the "Occupant Classification System
(OCS)" (
Ypage 49).
You can thus avoid the riskst hat could arise as
ar esult of:
Ran incorrectly categorized personint he front-
passenger seat
Rthe unintentional deactivation of the front-
passenger front air bag
Rthe unsuitable positionin gofthe child
restraint system, e.g. too clos etothe dash-
board
Rearward-facing child restraint system
If it is absolutely necessary to install arearward-
facin gchild restraint system on the front-
passenger seat, always make sure that the
front-passenge rfront air bag is deactivated.
Only if the PASSENGER AI RBAG OFF indicator
lamp is permanently lit (
Ypage 42) is the front-
passenger front air bag deactivated.

Wit hthe EASY-ENTRY system, th eseat moves

wards and pull th eseat forwards horizontally.
This makes it easie rfor passenger stoget into
and out of th erear compartment.
The head restraint also lower sonvehicles wit h
electric seat adjustment.
XVehicles without memory function:
release th ehead restraint if necessar yand
push it down .
XUse seat release handle :and fol dthe back-
res tforwards until th eseat backrest engages.
XPush th eseat as far forwards as it will go.
XVehicles with memory function: use seat

iIf you are driving faster than 30 mph
(47 km/h), you can no longer fold in the exte-
rior mirrors.
Setting the exterior mirrors
If the battery has been disconnected or com-
pletely discharged, the exterior mirrorsm ust be
reset.T he exterior mirrorsw ill otherwise not
fold in when you select the Automatic
MirrorFoldingfunction in the multimedia system.
XTurn the SmartKey to position 1or 2in the
ignition lock (Ypage 131).

When the Automatic Mirror Foldingfunc-
tion is activated in the multimedia system (see
the separate operatin ginstructions):

soon as you lock the vehicle from the outside.

again as soon as you unlock the vehicle.
iIf the exterior mirrorsh ave been folded in
manually, they do not fold out.
Exterior mirror pushed out of position
If an exterior mirror has been pushed out of
position ,proceed as follows:
XVehicles without electrically folding exte-
rior mirrors: move the exterior mirror into
the correct position manually.
XVehicles with electrically folding exterior
mirrors: press and hold button :until you
hear aclick and then the mirror engaging in
position (
Ypage 107).
The mirror housing is engaged again and you
can adjust the exterior mirrorsasu sual
(
Ypage 106).
Automatic anti-glare mirrors
GWARNING
Electrolyte may escape if the glass in an auto-
matic anti-glare mirror breaks. The electrolyte
is harmful and causes irritation. It must not
come int ocontact with your skin ,eyes, res-
piratory organs or clothing or be swallowed.
There is arisk of injury.
If you come int ocontact with the electrolyte,
observe the following:
RRinse off the electrolyte from your skin
immediately with water.
RImmediately rinse the electrolyte out of
your eyes thoroughly with clean water.
RIf the electrolyte is swallowed, immediately
rinse your mouth out thoroughly. Do not
induce vomiting.
RIf electrolyte comes int ocontact with your
skin or hair or is swallowed, seek medical
attention immediately.
RImmediately chang eout of clothing which
has come int ocontact with electrolyte.
RIf an allergic reaction occurs, seek medical
attention immediately.
