Example
XPark the vehicle on a level surface.
Only check the coolant level when the vehicle
is on a level surface and the engine has cooled
down.
XSet the Start/Stop button to key position2.
XCheck the coolant temperature display in the
instrument cluster.
The coolant temperature must be below
158 ‡ (70 †).
XSelect key position 0with the Start/Stop but-
ton.
XRemove the engine cover.
XSlowly turn cap :half a turn counter-clock-
wise to allow excess pressure to escape.
XTurn cap :further counter-clockwise and
remove it.
If the coolant is at the level of the marker bar
in the filler neck when cold, there is enough
coolant in coolant expansion tank ;.
If the coolant level is approximately 0.6 in
(1.5 cm) above the marker bar in the filler
neck when warm, there is enough coolant in
expansion tank ;.
XIf necessary, add coolant that has been tested
and approved by Mercedes-Benz.
XReplace cap:and turn it clockwise as far as
it will go.
XReplace the engine cover
For further information on coolant, see
(
Ypage 284).
Windshield washer system
GWARNING
Certain components in the engine compart-
ment, such as the engine, radiator and parts
of the exhaust system, can become very hot.
Working in the engine compartment poses a
risk of injury.
Where possible, let the engine cool down and touch only the components described in the
following.
GWARNING
Windshield washer concentrate could ignite if it comes into contact with hot engine compo-
nents or the exhaust system. There is a risk of
fire and injury.
Make sure that no windshield washer con-
centrate is spilled next to the filler neck.
Example
XTo open: pull cap:upwards by the tab.
XAdd the premixed washer fluid.
XTo close: press cap :onto the filler neck
until it engages.
If the washer fluid level drops below the recom-
mended minimum of 1 liter, a message appears
in the multifunction display prompting you to
add washer fluid (
Ypage 188).

antifreeze (
Ypage 285).

Also observe the following notes:
RIf the engine does not start, try jump-starting
it (Ypage 248). Tow-starting the vehicle is not
permitted.
RIf it is not possible to jump-start the vehicle,
have it transported to the nearest qualified
specialist workshop, e.g. an authorized
Mercedes-Benz Center.
If the vehicle can no longer be driven because of
an accident or breakdown, you have the follow-
ing options:
Rtransporting the vehicle
As a rule, you should have the vehicle trans-
ported.
Rtowing the vehicle with a tow rope or tow bar
Only tow the vehicle in exceptional cases. The
engine must be running if you tow the vehicle
with a tow rope or tow bar.
If the vehicle has suffered transmission damage,
have it transported on a transporter or trailer.
Observe the display messages in the instrument
cluster.
The battery must be connected and charged.
Otherwise, you:
Rwill not be able to switch on the ignition with
the Start/Stop button
Rcannot start the engine
Rcannot release the electric parking brake
Rcannot shift the automatic transmission to
position N
Disarm the automatic locking feature before the
vehicle is towed (
Ypage 67). You could other-
wise be locked out when pushing or towing the
ve
hicle.
Installing/removing the towing eye
Installing the towing eye
The bracket for the screw-in towing eye is
behind the radiator trim.
XRemove the towing eye from the vehicle tool
kit (Ypage 241).
XFold cover :forwards and leave it to hang
from the retaining strap.
XLever off the cover behind it using a flat tool
and fold it out.
XScrew in the towing eye clockwise to the stop.
Removing the towing eye
XUnscrew and remove the towing eye.
XFold down the inner cover until it engages.
XAttach cover at the bottom and press it in at
the top until it engages.
XPut the towing eye back into the vehicle tool
kit.
Towing a vehicle with both axles on
the ground
It is important that you observe the safety
instructions when towing away your vehicle
(
Ypage 250).
The automatic transmission automatically shifts
to position Pwhen you open the driver's or front-
passenger door or when you remove the Smart-
Key from the ignition lock. In order to ensure
that the automatic transmission stays in posi-
tion Nwhen towing the vehicle, you must
observe the following points:
XInsert the SmartKey into the ignition lock. You
must use the SmartKey instead of the Start/
Stop button (
Ypage 103).
XStart the engine and leave it running during
the entire towing procedure.
XDepress and hold the brake pedal.
XMove the transmission to position Nwith the
E-SELECT lever.

The antifreeze concentrate/corrosion inhibitor
concentration in the engine cooling system
should:
Rbe at least 50%. This will protect the engine
cooling system against freezing down to
approximately -35 ‡ (-37 †).
Rnot exceed 55% (antifreeze protection down
to -49‡[-45 †]). Otherwise, heat will not be
dissipated as effectively.
Mercedes-Benz recommends an antifreeze/
corrosion inhibitor concentrate in accordance
with MB Specifications for Service Products
310.1.
The coolant is checked with every maintenance
interval at a qualified specialist workshop.
iWhen the vehicle is first delivered, it is filled
with a coolant mixture that ensures adequate
antifreeze and anti-corrosion protection.
iThe coolant is checked with every mainte-
nance interval at a qualified specialist work-
shop.

Windshield washer system
Important safety notes
GWARNING
Windshield washer concentrate could ignite if it comes into contact with hot engine compo-
nents or the exhaust system. There is a risk of
fire and injury.
Make sure that no windshield washer con-
centrate is spilled next to the filler neck.
!Only use washer fluid that is suitable for
plastic lamp lenses, e.g. MB SummerFit or MB WinterFit. Unsuitable washer fluid could dam-
age the plastic lenses of the headlamps.
!Only MB SummerFit and MB WinterFit
washer fluid should be mixed together. The
spray nozzles may otherwise become
blocked. Do not use distilled or de-ionized water, other-
wise, the level sensor may give a false reading.
At temperatures above freezing:
XFill the washer fluid reservoir with a mixture of
water and windshield washer fluid, e.g. MB
SummerFit.
Add 1 part MB SummerFit to 100 parts water.
At temperatures below freezing:
XFill the washer fluid reservoir with a mixture of
water and washer fluid, e.g. MB WinterFit.
For the correct mixing ratio refer to the infor-
mation on the antifreeze reservoir.
iAdd windshield washer fluid, e.g. MB Sum-
merFit or MB WinterFit, to the washer fluid all
year round.
Climate control system refrigerant
Important safety notes
The climate control system of your vehicle is fil-
led with refrigerant R ‑134a.
The instruction label regarding the refrigerant
type used can be found on the radiator cross
member.
!Only the refrigerant R ‑134a and the PAG oil
approved by Mercedes-Benz may be used.
The approved PAG oil may not be mixed with
any other PAG oil that is not approved for
R-134a refrigerant. Otherwise, the climate
control system may be damaged.
Service work, such as refilling with refrigerant or
replacing component parts, may only be carried
out by a qualified specialist workshop. All appli-
cable regulations must be adhered to, SAE
standard J639 included.
Always have work on the climate control system carried out at a qualified specialist workshop.
