Use SAE 5W-30 engine oil.
Oil container labels provide important
information.
A chief contribution this type of oil makes
to fuel economy is reducing the amount of
fuel necessary to overcome engine friction.
For maintenance service, Mazda
recommends Mazda Genuine Parts and
Castrol ®
(Mexico only).

Inspecting Engine Oil Level 1. Be sure the vehicle is on a level
surface.
2. Warm up the engine to normal
operating temperature.
3. Turn it off and wait at least 5 minutes
for the oil to return to the oil pan.
4. Pull out the dipstick, wipe it clean, and
reinsert it fully.

5. Pull it out again and examine the level.
The level is normal if it is between the
MIN and MAX marks.
If it is near or below MIN, add enough
oil to bring the level to MAX.
CAUTION Do not overfill the engine oil. This may
cause engine damage.

Owner Maintenance Battery Maintenance
To get the best service from a battery: 
Keep it securely mounted. 
Keep the top clean and dry. 
Keep terminals and connections clean,
tight, and coated with petroleum jelly or
terminal grease. 
Rinse off spilled electrolyte immediately
with a solution of water and baking
soda. 
If the vehicle will not be used for an
extended time, disconnect the battery
cables and charge the battery every six
weeks.
Battery ReplacementContact an Authorized Mazda Dealer for a
battery replacement purchase. Key Battery Replacement If the buttons on the transmitter are
inoperable and the operation indicator
light does not flash, the battery may be
dead.
Replace with a new battery before the
transmitter becomes unusable.
CAUTION 
Make sure the battery is installed
correctly. Battery leakage could occur if it
is not installed correctly. 
When replacing the battery, be careful
not to touch any of the internal circuitry
and electrical terminals, bend the
electrical terminals, or get dirt in the
transmitter as the transmitter could be
damaged. 
There is the danger of explosion if the
battery is not correctly replaced. 
Dispose of used batteries according to
the following instructions. 
Insulate the plus and minus terminals
of the battery using cellophane or
equivalent tape. 
Never disassemble. 
Never throw the battery into fire or
water. 
Never deform or crush. 
Replace only with the same type battery
(CR2025 or equivalent).

Battery Runs Out
Jump-StartingJump-starting is dangerous if done incorrectly. So follow the procedure carefully. If you
feel unsure about jump-starting, we strongly recommend that you have a competent service
technician do the work.
WARNING Follow These Precautions Carefully:
To ensure safe and correct handling of the battery, read the following precautions
carefully before using the battery or inspecting it.
Do not allow the positive ( ) terminal to contact any other metal object that
could cause sparks:
Flames and sparks near open battery cells are dangerous. Hydrogen gas, produced
during normal battery operation, could ignite and cause the battery to explode. An
exploding battery can cause serious burns and injuries. When working near a battery, do
not allow metal tools to contact the positive (
) or negative ( ) terminal of the battery.
Keep all flames, including cigarettes, and sparks away from open battery cells:
Flames and sparks near open battery cells are dangerous. Hydrogen gas, produced
during normal battery operation, could ignite and cause the battery to explode. An
exploding battery can cause serious burns and injuries.
Do not jump-start a frozen battery or one with a low fluid level:
Jump-starting a frozen battery or one with a low fluid level is dangerous. It may rupture
or explode, causing serious injury.
Connect the negative cable to a good ground point away from the battery:
Connecting the end of the second jumper cable to the negative (
) terminal of the
discharged battery is dangerous.
A spark could cause the gas around the battery to explode and injure someone.
Route the jumper cables away from parts that will be moving:
Connecting a jumper cable near or to moving parts (cooling fans, belts) is dangerous. The
cable could get caught when the engine starts and cause serious injury.

Emergency Towing
Towing Description We recommend that towing be done only
by an Authorized Mazda Dealer or a
commercial tow-truck service.
Proper lifting and towing are necessary
to prevent damage to the vehicle.
Government and local laws must be
followed.
A towed vehicle usually should have its
drive wheels (rear wheels) off the ground.
If excessive damage or other conditions
prevent this, use wheel dollies.
Wheel dollies
When towing with the rear wheels on the
ground, release the parking brake. CAUTION 
Do not tow the vehicle pointed
backward with driving wheels on the
ground. This may cause internal damage
to the transmission. 
Do not tow with sling-type equipment.
This could damage your vehicle. Use
wheel-lift or flatbed equipment.

Customer Assistance7. California Civil Code Section 1793.2 (d) requires that, if Mazd a or its representative
is unable to repair a new motor vehicle to conform to the vehicle's applicable express
warranty after a reasonable number of attempts, Mazda may be re quired to replace or
repurchase the vehicle. California Civil Code Section 1793.22 (b) creates a presumption
that Mazda has had a reasonable number of attempts to conform the vehicle to its
applicable express warranties if, within 18 months from delivery to the buyer or 18,000
miles on the vehicle's odometer, whichever occurs first, one or more of the following
occurs: 
The same nonconformity [a failure to conform to the written warranty that substantially
impairs the use, value or safety of the vehicle] results in a condition that is likely to
cause death or serious bodily injury if the vehicle is driven AND the nonconformity
has been subject to repair two or more times by Mazda or its agents AND the buyer or
lessee has directly notified Mazda of the need for the repair of the nonconformity; OR
The same nonconformity has been subject to repair 4 or more times by Mazda
or its agents AND the buyer has notified Mazda of the need for the repair of the
nonconformity; OR 
The vehicle is out of service by reason of repair of nonconformities by Mazda or its
agents for a cumulative total of more than 30 calendar days after delivery of the vehicle
to the buyer.

8. The following remedies may be sought in BBB AUTO LINE: repairs, reimbursement

nonconformity, repurchase or replacement of your vehicle, and compensation for
damages and remedies available under Mazda's written warranty or applicable law.
9. The following remedies may not be sought in BBB AUTO LINE: punitive or multiple
damages, attorneys' fees, or consequential damages other than a s provided in California
Civil Code Section 1794 (a) and (b).
10. You may reject the decision issued by a BBB AUTO LINE arbitrator. If you reject the
decision, you will be free to pursue further legal action. The arbitrator's decision and any
findings will be admissible in a court action.
11. If you accept the arbitrator's decision, Mazda will be bound by the decision, and will
comply with the decision within a reasonable time not to exceed 30 days after we receive
notice of your acceptance of the decision.

Mazda Dealers have both the knowledge and tools to keep your Mazda in top condition.
In our experience, any questions, problems, or complaints regar ding the operation of your
Mazda or any other general service transactions are most effectively resolved by your dealer.
If the cause of your dissatisfaction cannot adequately be addre ssed by normal dealership
procedures, we recommend that you take the following steps:
STEP 1: Contact the Mazda DealerDiscuss the matter with a member of dealership management. If the Service Manager has
already reviewed your concerns, contact the owner of the dealer ship or its General Manager.
STEP 2: Contact the Mazda Regional OfficeIf you feel that you still require assistance, ask the dealer S ervice Manager to arrange for
you to meet the local Mazda Service Representative. If more exp edient, contact Mazda
Canada Inc. Regional Office nearest you for such arrangements. R egional Office address
and phone numbers are shown (page 8-8 ).

above three steps in sequence for most effective results.
Mediation/Arbitration ProgramOccasionally a customer concern cannot be resolved through Mazda's Customer Satisfaction
Program. If after exhausting the procedures in this manual your concern is still not resolved,
you have another option.
Mazda Canada Inc. participates in an arbitration program administered by the Canadian
Motor Vehicle Arbitration Plan (CAMVAP). CAMVAP will advise you about how your
concern may be reviewed and resolved by an independent third party through binding
arbitration.
Your complete satisfaction is the goal of Mazda Canada Inc. and our dealers.
Mazda's participation in CAMVAP makes a valuable contribution to our achieving that goal.
There is no charge for using CAMVAP. CAMVAP results are fast, fair and final as the award
is binding on both you and Mazda Canada Inc.
Canadian Motor Vehicle Arbitration Plan (CAMVAP)If a specific item of concern arises, where a solution cannot be reached between an owner,
Mazda, and/or one of its dealers (that all parties cannot agree upon), the owner may wish to
use the services offered by the Canadian Motor Vehicle Arbitration Plan (CAMVAP).
CAMVAP uses the services of Provincial Administrators to assist consumers in scheduling
and preparing for their arbitration hearings. However, before you can proceed with
CAMVAP you must follow your Mazda dispute resolution process as outlined previously.
CAMVAP is fully implemented in all provinces and territories.
