Convertible Top (Retractable Fastback)
Closing the Roof
1. Park on a hard, level surface off the
right-of-way and ¿ rmly set the parking
brake.
2. Put a vehicle with an automatic
transmission in Park (P), a manual
transmission in Neutral.
3. Apply the parking brake with the brake
pedal depressed.
4. Start the Engine.
NOTE
Do not open/close the roof with the
engine stopped. Otherwise the vehicle's
battery power could be depleted.
5. Slightly slide the seats back if they are
in the foremost position.
6. Continue pressing the retractable
fastback switch in the close direction
until the rear roof is completely closed.
NOTE
  If the retractable fastback switch
is pressed in the close direction, a
warning beep sounds.
  If the windows are closed, the
windows automatically open partially
when the rear roof opens.
 After the rear roof is closed and
the retractable fastback switch is
continuously pressed in the close
direction, the power windows close
completely.
 Once you remove your hand from
the switch, the power windows do
not close even if it is operated again.
If this happens, completely close
the power windows using the power
window switch.
  The roof keeps closing and the
operation indicator light À ashes
while the retractable fastback switch
is pressed in the close direction.
  If the switch is released while the
roof is closing, the roof stops closing.
If the switch is pressed in the close
direction again, the roof resumes
closing.
  When the operation is ¿ nished, a
beep sound is heard and the operation
indicator light turns off.

ALC (Automatic volume adjustment)
The automatic level control (ALC) is a
feature that automatically adjusts audio
volume and sound quality according to
the vehicle speed. The volume increases
in accordance with the increase in vehicle
speed, and decreases as vehicle speed
decreases.

When driving, background noise can
interfere with enjoying music.
AudioPilot
®*3 noise compensation
technology continuously adjusts the music
to compensate for background noise and
vehicle speed.
It reacts only to sustained noise sources
and not intermittent ones, such as speed
bumps.
An enhanced DSP algorithm allows faster
and more effective compensation for
unusual situations, such as driving on a
very rough road or at high speeds.
In addition, a system is equipped which
switches the audio to the optimum
acoustics corresponding to the opening
and closing of the soft top/roof.
The acoustic switching function is linked
to the operation of the top lock lever/
retractable fastback switch and audio
playback is muted for about 1 second
while switching.

W a s h i n g
To help protect the retractable fastback's
¿ nish, use a soft cloth or sponge to wash
it.
Insects, tar, tree sap, bird droppings,
industrial fallout, and similar deposits can
damage the ¿ nish if they are not removed
immediately. When prompt washing with
plain water is ineffective use a mild soap
made for use on vehicles.
CAUTION
  Do not use an automatic car wash. 
 Do not spray water directly on the
area where the window glass and the
retractable fastback meet. This would
probably cause water to enter the
cabin.
  Do not use strong soap, chemical
detergents, or hot water, and do not
wash the retractable fastback in
direct sunlight or when the surface is
warm.
Thoroughly rinse with lukewarm or cold
water. Do not allow soap to dry on the
¿ nish.
Waxing
Wax the retractable fastback when water
no longer beads on the paint. Always wash
and dry it before waxing.
CAUTION
  Wiping off dust or dirt with a dry
cloth will scratch the ¿ nish.

 Do not use abrasive wax. This may
damage the protective coating and
discolour or deteriorate the paint.
NOTE
A spot remover to remove oil, tar, and
similar materials will usually also take
off the wax. Rewax these areas.

There are drainage outlets on the left and
right of the lower side of the rear window.

NOTE
If leaves or other foreign matter block
the drainage outlets, water may enter the
cabin. Clean the drainage outlets at least
once a year.
1. Continue pressing the retractable
fastback switch in the open direction
until the rear roof is raised up from the
fully closed position.
Refer to Opening the Roof on page
3-51 .
2. Remove your ¿ nger from the
retractable fastback switch after the
rear roof is raised up.
3. Make sure the drainage outlets are
visible.

4. Switch the ignition OFF.
WARNING
Verify that the ignition is switched off:
Closing the roof with the ignition not
switched off is dangerous as the motors
could turn on suddenly and cause
injury resulting from hands or ¿ ngers
being pinched in the mechanism.
5. Remove leaves and other foreign
matter accumulated in the drainage
outlet.
CAUTION
When cleaning the drainage outlets, be
careful not to touch the roof links or the
framework of the rear roof. Otherwise,
you could get injured.

6. After cleaning is ¿ nished, continue
pressing the retractable fastback switch
in the close direction to close the rear
roof.

 When cleaning the plastic lenses of
the lights, do not use petrol, paraf¿ n,
recti¿ ed spirit, paint, thinner, highly
acidic detergents, or strongly alkaline
detergents. Otherwise, these chemical
agents can discolour or damage the
surfaces resulting in a signi¿ cant loss
in functionality. If plastic parts become
inadvertently exposed to any of these
chemical agents, À ush with water
immediately.
 


 If plastic parts such as the bumpers
become inadvertently exposed to
chemical agents or À uids such as petrol,
oil, engine coolant, or battery À uid, it
could cause discolouration, staining,
or paint peeling. Wipe off any such
chemical agents or À uids using a soft
cloth immediately.
 


 High water temperature and high water
pressure car washers are available
depending on the type of high pressure
car washer device. If the car washer
nozzle is put too close to the vehicle or
aimed at one area for an extended period
of time, it could deform plastic parts or
damage the paint.
 


 Do not use wax containing compounds
(polish). Otherwise, it could result in
paint damage.
 


 In addition, do not use an electrical or
air tool to apply wax. Otherwise, the
frictional heat generated could result
in deformation of plastic parts or paint
damage.
