Boot Light
The boot light is on when the lid is open
and off when it's closed.
NOTE
To prevent the battery from being
discharged, do not leave the boot open
for a long period when the engine is not
running.
Illuminated Entry System
When the illuminated entry system
operates, the overhead lights turn on in the
following conditions:
 

 The driver's door is unlocked after the
ignition is switched OFF.
 

 The ignition is switched OFF with all
doors closed.
NOTE
  The illuminated entry system
operates when the overhead light
switch is in the DOOR position.
  The illumination time differs
depending on the operation.
 Battery saver If an interior light is left on with
the ignition switched OFF, the light
is turned off automatically after
about 30 minutes to prevent battery
depletion.
  The operation of the illuminated
entry system can be changed.
 Refer to Personalisation Features on
page 9-10 .

Insert the auxiliary key and turn it
clockwise to lock, anticlockwise to unlock.

Small items can be stored in the back trim
storage box.

To use the back trim storage box
1. Slide the seat all the way forward and
fold the seatback forward.
Refer to Seat Operation on page
2-5 .
2. Remove the lids.
W h e n ¿ nished, return the seat to its
original position and secure it. After
returning the seat to its original position,
make sure the seat is secured by
attempting to lightly move it forward and
backward.
CAUTION
Do not forcefully push objects into the
back trim storage box. Otherwise, the
box could be damaged.

Removable Ashtray *
The removable ashtray can be ¿ xed and
used in either of the cup holders.
WARNING
Only use the removable ashtray in
its¿ xed position, and make sure it is
completely inserted:
Using an ashtray removed from
its¿ xed position or not completely
inserted is dangerous. Cigarettes
could roll around or spill out of the
ashtray into the vehicle and start a
¿ re. Moreover, cigarette stubs will not
extinguish themselves completely even
if the ashtray lid is closed.
CAUTION
Do not use the ashtray for rubbish. You
might start a ¿ re.
To use the ashtray, insert it straight into the
cup holder.
To remove the ashtray, pull it upward.

This windblocker reduces rear wind blast
into the cabin when driving with the
convertible top down.

Bonnet
WARNING
Always check that the bonnet is closed
and securely locked:
A bonnet that is not closed and securely
locked is dangerous as it could À y open
while the vehicle is moving and block
the driver's vision which could result in
a serious accident.
Opening the Bonnet
WARNING
(With active bonnet)
Do not pull the bonnet's release handle
after the active bonnet has activated:
Pulling the release handle while the
active bonnet is operating is dangerous
as it will raise the bonnet further and
obstruct vision. In addition, the bonnet
cannot be lowered manually, therefore
do not attempt to forcefully push the
bonnet back down. Otherwise, it could
deform the bonnet or cause injury.
If the active bonnet has activated,
always consult an expert repairer, we
recommend an Authorised Mazda
Repairer. 1. With the vehicle parked, pull the
release handle to unlock the bonnet.

2. Insert your hand into the bonnet
opening, slide the latch lever to the
right, and lift up the bonnet.

Body Lubrication
All moving points of the body, such as
door and bonnet hinges and locks, should
be lubricated each time the engine oil is
changed. Use a nonfreezing lubricant on
locks during cold weather.
Make sure the bonnet's secondary latch
keeps the bonnet from opening when the
primary latch is released.
Wiper Blades
CAUTION
  Hot waxes applied by automatic car
washers have been known to affect
the wiper's ability to clean windows.
  To prevent damage to the wiper
blades, do not use petrol, paraf¿ n,
paint thinner, or other solvents on or
near them.
  When the wiper lever is in the
AUTO position and the ignition is
switched ON, the wipers may move
automatically in the following cases:
 


 If the windscreen above the rain
sensor is touched.
 


 If the windscreen above the rain
sensor is wiped with a cloth.
 


 If the windscreen is struck with a
hand or other object.
 


 If the rain sensor is struck with a
hand or other object from inside
the vehicle.
  Be careful not to pinch hands or
¿ ngers as it may cause injury, or
damage the wipers. When washing or
servicing the vehicle, make sure the
wiper lever is in the OFF position.
Contamination of either the windscreen or
the blades with foreign matter can reduce
wiper effectiveness. Common sources are
insects, tree sap, and hot wax treatments
used by some commercial car washes.
If the blades are not wiping properly,
clean the window and blades with a good
cleaner or mild detergent; then rinse
thoroughly with clean water. Repeat if
necessary.

CAUTION
  Do not bend or discard the stiffeners.
You need to use them again.
  If the metal stiffeners are switched,
the blade's wiping ef¿ ciency could
be reduced.
 So do not use the driver's side metal
stiffeners on the passenger's side, or
vice versa.
  Be sure to reinstall the metal
stiffeners in the new blade rubber so
that the curve is the same as it was in
the old blade rubber.
6. Carefully insert the new blade rubber.
Then install the blade assembly in the
reverse order of removal.
(Type B)
1. Raise the wiper arm and turn the blade
assembly to expose the plastic locking
clip.
Compress the clip and slide the
assembly downward; then lift it off the
arm.

CAUTION
To prevent damage to the windscreen let
the wiper arm down easily, do not let it
slap down on the windscreen.
2. Hold the end of the rubber and pull
until the tabs are free of the metal
support.

CAUTION
When removing the lens or lamp unit
using a À athead screwdriver, make
sure that the À athead screwdriver does
not contact the interior terminal. If
theÀ athead screwdriver contacts the
terminal, a short circuit may occur.
NOTE
  To replace the bulb, contact an
expert repairer, we recommend an
Authorised Mazda Repairer.
  Use the protective cover and carton
for the replacement bulb to dispose
of the old bulb promptly and out of
the reach of children.
Replacing Exterior Light Bulbs
Headlights, Running lights (LED type),
Position lights, High-mount brake light,
Brake lights, Tail lights
The LED bulb cannot be replaced as a
single unit because it is an integrated unit.
The LED bulb has to be replaced with
the unit. We recommend an Authorised
Mazda Repairer when the replacement is
necessary.
Running lights (Bulb type)
1. Make sure the ignition is switched off,
and the headlight switch is off.
2. Pull the centre of each plastic retainer
and remove the retainers.

3. Turn the screw anticlockwise and
remove it, and then partially peel back
the mudguard.
4. Turn the socket and bulb assembly
anticlockwise and remove it.
