N O T E
y When the OS of the device is updated, the pairing information may be deleted. If this
happens, reprogram the pairing information to the Bluetooth ® unit.
y If you pair your phone which has already been paired to your vehicle more than once in
the past, you need to delete “Mazda” on your mobile device. Then, execute the Bluetooth ®
search on your mobile device once again, and pair to a newly detected “Mazda”.
y Before you pair your device, make sure that Bluetooth ® is “ON”, both on your phone and
on the vehicle.
y If Bluetooth ® -enabled devices are used in the following locations or conditions,
connection via Bluetooth ® may not be possible.
y The device is in a location hidden from the center display such as behind or under a
seat, or inside the glove compartment.
y The device contacts or is covered by a metal object or body.
y The device is set to power-saving mode.
y Different Bluetooth ® -enabled devices can be used for Bluetooth ® Hands-Free and
Bluetooth ® audio. For example, device A can be connected as a Bluetooth ® Hands-
Free device and device B can be connected as a Bluetooth ® audio device. However, the
following may occur when they are used at the same time.
y The Bluetooth ® connection of the device is disconnected.
y Noise occurs in the Hands-Free audio.
y Hands-Free operates slowly.
Voice recognition related problems

Poor voice recognition
y Excessive, slow speech.
y Excessive, forceful speech

y Speaking before the beep sound

y Loud noise (speaking or noise from
outside/inside vehicle).

Poor voice recognition There is a malfunction in the
microphone. A poor connection or malfunction
with the microphone may have
occurred. Consult an Authorized
Mazda Dealer.
Phone-related voice recognition is
disabled There is a problem with the
connection between the Bluetooth
®
unit and the device. If there is any malfunction after
checking the pairing situation, check
for device pairing or connection
problems.

Removing cup holders
Use both hands when removing the cup holder.
Installing cup holders
CAUTION
When installing a cup holder, insert it all the way into the installation hole and make sure
that it is secured in place. Otherwise, the cup holder may fall off while the vehicle is being
driven and cause the beverage to spill.

Back Trim Storage Box
Small items can be stored in the back trim
storage box.
(Soft top model)

To use the back trim storage box
1. Slide the seat all the way forward and
fold the seatback forward.
Refer to Seat Operation on page
2-4 .
2. Remove the lids.
When ¿ nished, return the seat to its
original position and secure it. After
returning the seat to its original position,
make sure the seat is secured by
attempting to lightly move it forward and
backward.
CAUTION
Do not forcefully push objects into the
back trim storage box. Otherwise, the
box could be damaged.

Hood
WARNING
Always check that the hood is closed
and securely locked:
A hood that is not closed and securely
locked is dangerous as it could fl y open
while the vehicle is moving and block
the driver's vision which could result in
a serious accident.
Opening the Hood
1. With the vehicle parked, pull the
release handle to unlock the hood.

2. Insert your hand into the hood opening,
slide the latch lever to the right, and lift
up the hood.

3. Grasp the support rod in the padded
area and secure it in the support rod
hole indicated by the arrow to hold the
hood open.

Closing the Hood
1. Check under the hood area to make
certain all ¿ ller caps are in place and all
loose items (e.g. tools, oil containers,
etc.) have been removed.
2. Lift the hood, grasp the padded area on
the support rod, and secure the support
rod in the clip. Verify that the support
rod is secured in the clip before closing
the hood.

3. Lower the hood slowly to a height of
about 20 cm (7.9 in) above its closed
position and then let it drop.
CAUTION
When closing the hood, do not push
it excessively such as by applying your
weight. Otherwise, the hood could be
deformed.

Inspect the antifreeze protection and
coolant level in the coolant reservoir at
least once a year—at the beginning of the
winter season—and before traveling where
temperatures may drop below freezing.
Inspect the condition and connections of
all cooling system and heater hoses.
Replace any that are swollen or
deteriorated.
The coolant should be at full in the
radiator and between the FULL and LOW
marks on the coolant reservoir when the
engine is cool.

If it is at or near LOW, add enough coolant
to the coolant reservoir to provide freezing
and corrosion protection and to bring the
level to FULL.
Securely tighten the coolant reservoir tank
cap after adding coolant.
CAUTION
¾ Radiator coolant will damage paint.
Rinse it off quickly if spilled.
¾ Use only soft (demineralized) water in
the coolant mixture. Water that contains
minerals will cut down on the coolant's
eff ectiveness.
¾ Do not add only water. Always add a
proper coolant mixture.
¾ The engine has aluminum parts and
must be protected by an ethylene-glycol-
based coolant to prevent corrosion and
freezing.
¾ DO NOT USE coolants Containing
Alcohol, methanol, Borate or Silicate.
These coolants could damage the
cooling system.
¾ DO NOT MIX alcohol or methanol with
the coolant. This could damage the
cooling system.
¾ Do not use a solution that contains more
than 60% antifreeze.
This would reduce eff ectiveness.
¾ If the “FL22” mark is shown on or near
the cooling system cap, use of FL-22 is
recommended when replacing engine
coolant. Using engine coolant other
than FL-22 may cause serious damage to
the engine and cooling system.
If the coolant reservoir is empty or new
coolant is required frequently, consult an
Authorized Mazda Dealer.

Battery Maintenance
To get the best service from a battery:
y Keep it securely mounted.
y Keep the top clean and dry.
y Keep terminals and connections clean,
tight, and coated with petroleum jelly or
terminal grease.
y Rinse off spilled electrolyte immediately
with a solution of water and baking
soda.
y If the vehicle will not be used for an
extended time, disconnect the battery
cables and charge the battery every six
weeks.
Battery Replacement
Contact an Authorized Mazda Dealer for a
battery replacement purchase.
Key Battery Replacement
If the buttons on the transmitter are
inoperable and the operation indicator
light does not À ash, the battery may be
dead.
Replace with a new battery before the
transmitter becomes unusable.
CAUTION
¾ Make sure the battery is installed
correctly. Battery leakage could occur if it
is not installed correctly.
¾ When replacing the battery, be careful
not to touch any of the internal circuitry
and electrical terminals, bend the
electrical terminals, or get dirt in the
transmitter as the transmitter could be
damaged.
¾ There is the danger of explosion if the
battery is not correctly replaced.
¾ Dispose of used batteries according to
the following instructions.
¾ Insulate the plus and minus terminals
of the battery using cellophane or
equivalent tape.
¾ Never disassemble.
¾ Never throw the battery into fi re or
water.
¾ Never deform or crush.
¾ Replace only with the same type battery
(CR2025 or equivalent).

Fuses
Your vehicle's electrical system is
protected by fuses.
If any lights, accessories, or controls do
not work, inspect the appropriate circuit
protector. If a fuse has blown, the inside
element will be melted.
If the same fuse blows again, avoid using
that system and consult an Authorized
Mazda Dealer as soon as possible.
Fuse Replacement
Replacing the fuses on the vehicle's left
side
If the electrical system does not work, ¿ rst
inspect the fuses on the vehicle's left side.
1. Make sure the ignition is switched off,
and other switches are off.
2. Open the fuse panel cover.
3. Pull the fuse straight out with the
fuse puller provided on the fuse block
located in the engine compartment.
4. Inspect the fuse and replace it if it is
blown.

5. Insert a new fuse of the same amperage
rating, and make sure it ¿ ts tightly. If
it does not ¿ t tightly, have an expert
install it. We recommend an Authorized
Mazda Dealer.
If you have no spare fuses, borrow one
of the same rating from a circuit not
essential to vehicle operation, such as
the AUDIO or OUTLET circuit.
CAUTION
Always replace a fuse with a genuine
Mazda fuse or equivalent of the same
rating. Otherwise you may damage
the electric system.
6. Reinstall the cover and make sure that
it is securely installed.
