Observe the following precautions. Failure to do so may result in death or serious injury.
■Closing the windows
●The driver is responsible for all the power window operations, including the operation for the passengers. In order to prevent acci dental operation, especially by a child, do not let a child operate the power windows. It is possible for children and other passen-
gers to have body parts caught in the power window. Also, when riding with a child, it is recommended to use the window lock switch. ( P. 196)
●Check to make sure that all passengers do not have any part of their body in a posi-
tion where it could be caught wh en a window is being operated.
●When using the wireless remote control or mechanical key and operating the power windows, operate the power window after checking to make sure that there is no pos-
sibility of any passenger having any of thei r body parts caught in the window. Also do not let a child operate window by the wireless remote control or mechanical key. It ispossible for children and other passengers to get caught in the power window.
●When exiting the vehicle, turn the power switch off, carry the key and exit the vehiclealong with the child. There may be accidental operation, due to mischief, etc., thatmay possibly lead to an accident.
■Jam protection function
●Never use any part of your body to intent ionally activate the jam protection function.
●The jam protection function may not work if something gets jammed just before the
window is fully closed. Be careful not to ge t any part of your body jammed in the win- dow.
■Catch protection function
●Never use any part of your body or clothing to intentionally activate the catch protec-tion function.
●The catch protection function may not work if something gets caught just before the
window is fully opened. Be careful not to get any part of your body or clothing caught in the window.

■The moon roof can be operated when
The power switch is in ON mode.
■Operating the moon roof after turning the hybrid system off
The moon roof can be operated for approximately 45 seconds after the power switch is
turned to ACCESSORY mode or turned off. It cannot, however, be operated once either door is opened.
■Jam protection function
If an object is detected between the moon roof and the frame while the moon roof is clos- ing or tilting down, travel is sto pped and the moon roof opens slightly.
■Sunshade
The sunshade can be opened and closed manually. However, the sunshade will open automatically when the moon roof is opened.
■Door lock linked moon roof operation
●The moon roof can be opened and closed using the mechanical key.* ( P. 579)
●The moon roof can be opened and closed using the wireless remote control.* ( P. 144)
*: These settings must be customized at any authorized Lexus dealer or repairer, or
another duly qualified and equipped professional.
■If the moon roof does not close normally
Perform the following procedure:
Stop the vehicle.
Press and hold th e “CLOSE” switch.*The moon roof will close, reopen and pause for approximately 10 seconds. Then it will close again and stop at the completely closed position.
Check to make sure that the moon roof is completely closed and then release the switch.
*: If the switch is released at the incorrect time, the procedure will have to be performed
again from the beginning.
If the moon roof does not fully close even after performing the above procedure cor-
rectly, have the vehicle inspected by any authorized Lexus dealer or repairer, or another duly qualified and equipped professional.

■Closing the moon roof
●The driver is responsible for moon ro of opening and closing operations. In order to prevent accidental operation, espe cially by a child, do not let a child oper-
ate the moon roof. It is possible for children and other passengers to have body parts caught in the moon roof.
●Check to make sure that all passengers do not have any part of their body in a posi-
tion where it could be caught when the moon roof is being operated.
●When using the wireless remote control or mechanical key and operating the moon roof, operate the moon roof after checking to make sure that there is no possibility of
any passenger having any of their body part s caught in the moon roof. Also, do not let a child operate moon roof by the wireless remo te control or mechanical key. It is pos- sible for children and other passengers to get caught in the moon roof.
●When exiting the vehicle, turn the power switch off, carry the key and exit the vehiclealong with the child. There may be accidental operation, due to mischief, etc., thatmay possibly lead to an accident.
■Jam protection function

●The jam protection function may not work if something gets caught just before the
moon roof is fully closed. Also, the jam protection function is not designed to operate while the moon roof switch is be ing pressed. Take care so that your fingers, etc. do not get caught.
NOTICE
■To prevent damage to the moon roof
●Before opening, make sure that there are no foreign objects such as stones or ice around the opening.
●Do not hit the face or edge of the moon roof with hard objects.
■Operating the moon roof
There is the possibility that water or rain will get into the vehicle if you operate the moon roof after a rainfall, snowfall or car wash. Wipe the moon roof dry with a cloth
before operating it.

With the brake pedal depressed, shift the shift lever to D. (P. 222)
Release the parking brake. ( P. 230)
Gradually release the brake pedal and gently depress the accelerator pedal
to accelerate the vehicle.
With the shift lever in D, depress the brake pedal.
If necessary, set the parking brake.
If the vehicle is to be stopped for an extended period of time, shift the shift lever to P. ( P. 222)
With the shift lever in D, depress the brake pedal.
Set the parking brake ( P. 230), and shift the shift lever to P (P. 222).
Press the power switch to stop the hybrid system.
Lock the door, making sure that you ha ve the electronic key on your person.
If parking on a hill, block the wheels as needed.
Make sure that the parking brake is set and shift the shift lever to D.
Gently depress the accelerator pedal.
Release the parking brake.

Check that the parking brake is set.
Check that the shift lever is in P.
Firmly depress the brake pedal.
and a message will be displayed on the multi-information display.
If it is not displayed, the hybrid system cannot be started.
Press the power switch shortly and
firmly.
When operating the power switch, one short, firm press is enough.
It is not necessary to press and hold the switch.
If the “READY” indicator turns on, the
hybrid system will operate normally.
Continue depressing the brake pedal until the “READY” indicator is illumi-
nated.
The hybrid system can be started from any power switch mode.
Check that the “READY” indicator is illuminated.
The vehicle will not move when the “READY” indicator is off.
Stop the vehicle completely.
Set the parking brake ( P. 230), and shift the shift lever to P.
Press the power switch.
Release the brake pedal and check that the display on the meters is off.
Power (ignition) switch
Performing the following operations when carrying the electronic key on your
person starts the hybrid system or changes power switch modes.

■Auto power off function
If the vehicle is left in ACCESSORY mode for more than 20 minutes or ON mode (the hybrid system is not operating) for more than an hour with the shift lever in P, the power switch will automatically turn off. However, th is function cannot entirely prevent 12-volt
battery discharge. Do not leave the vehicle with the power switch in ACCESSORY or ON mode for long periods of time when the hybrid system is not operating.

When starting the hybrid system, the flashing time of the “READY” indicator may be long. Leave the vehicle as it is until the “REA DY” indicator is steady on, as steady means
the vehicle is able to move.

■If the hybrid system does not start
●Check that the shift lever is securely set in P. The hybrid system may not start if the shift lever is displaced out of P.
●The immobilizer system may not have been deactivated. ( P. 95)

■Steering lock
After turning the power switch off and openin g and closing the doors, the steering wheel will be locked due to the steering lock func tion. Operating the power switch again auto- matically cancels the steering lock.
■When the steering lock cannot be released
■Steering lock motor overheating prevention
To prevent the steering lock motor from over heating, operation of the motor may be sus- pended if the hybrid system is turned on an d off repeatedly in a short period of time. In
this case, refrain from operating the power switch. After about 10 seconds, the steering lock motor will resume functioning.
“Steering Lock active” will be displayed on the
multi-information display.
Check that the shift lever is in P. Press the power switch while turning the steering wheel left and
right.

■When “Check Entry & Start System” is displayed on the multi-information display
The system may be malfunctioning. Have the vehicle inspected by any authorized Lexus dealer or repairer, or another duly qua lified and equipped professional immediately.
■If the “READY” indicator does not come on
In the event that the “READY” indicator does not come on even after performing the proper procedures for starting the vehicle, contact any authorized Lexus dealer or
repairer, or another duly qualified and equipped professional immediately.
■If the hybrid system is malfunctioning

■Operation of the power switch
●If the switch is not pressed shortly and firmly, the power switch mode may not change or the hybrid system may not start.
●If attempting to restart the hybrid system immediately after turning the power switch off,
the hybrid system may not start in some cases. After turning the power switch off, please wait a few seconds before restarting the hybrid system.
■If the smart entry & start system has been deactivated by a customized setting

WARNING
■When starting the hybrid system
Always start the hybrid system while sittin g in the driver’s seat. Do not depress the accelerator pedal while starting the hybrid system under any circumstances.
Doing so may cause an accident resu lting in death or serious injury.
■Caution while driving
If hybrid system failure occurs while the ve hicle is moving, do not lock or open the
doors until the vehicle reaches a safe and c omplete stop. Activation of the steering lock in this circumstance may lead to an accide nt, resulting in death or serious injury.
■Stopping the hybrid system in an emergency
If you want to stop the hybrid system in an emergency while driving the vehicle, press and hold the power switch for more than 2 seconds, or press it briefly 3 times or morein succession. ( P. 529)
However, do not touch the power switch while driving except in an emergency. Turning the hybrid system off while driving will not cause loss of steering or braking control, however, power assist to the steering will be lost. This will make it more difficult to steer
smoothly, so you should pull over and stop the vehicle as soon as it is safe to do so.

■Registering air conditioning settings to electronic keys (vehicles with driving position
memory)
●Unlocking the vehicle using an electronic key and turning the power switch to ON
mode will recall that key's registered air conditioning settings.
●When the power switch is turned off, the cu rrent air conditioning settings will automati-
cally be registered to the electronic key that was used to unlock the vehicle.
●The system may not operate correctly if more than one electronic key is in the vicinity or
if the smart entry & start system is used to unlock a passenger door.
●The doors that can recall the air conditioning setting* when unlocked using the smart
entry & start system can be changed. For details, contact any authorized Lexus dealer
or repairer, or another duly qu alified and equipped professional.
*: The doors that can recall the driving position memory are changed at the same time.
■Using automatic mode
Fan speed is adjusted automatically according to the temperature setting and the ambi-
ent conditions.
Therefore, the fan may stop for a while until wa rm or cool air is ready to flow immediately
after is pressed or “AUTO” is selected.
■Fogging up of the windows
The windows will easily fog up when the hu midity in the vehicle is high. Turning
(“A/C”) on will dehumidify the air from the ou tlets and defog the windshield effectively.
●If you turn (“A/C”) off, the windows may fog up more easily.
●The windows may fog up if the recirculated air mode is used.
■Outside/recirculated air mode
●When driving on dusty roads such as tunnels or in heavy traffic, set the outside/recircu-
lated air mode button to the recirculated air mode. This is effective in preventing out-
side air from entering the vehicle interior . During cooling operation, setting the
recirculated air mode will also cool the vehicle interior effectively.
●Outside/recirculated air mode may automati cally switch depending on the tempera-
ture setting or the inside temperature.
■Automatic mode for air intake control
In automatic mode, the system detects exhaust gas and other pollutants and automati-
cally switches between outside air and recirculated air modes.
When the dehumidification function is off, and the fan is operating, turning automatic
mode on will activate the dehumidification function.
■Operation of the air conditioning system in Eco drive mode
In Eco drive mode, the air conditioning system is controlled as follows to prioritize fuel
efficiency:
●Engine speed and compressor operation controlled to restrict heating/cooling capac-
ity
●Fan speed restricted when automatic mode is selected
To improve air conditioning performanc e, perform the following operations:
●Adjust the fan speed
●Turn off Eco drive mode
