Immobilizer system
The indicator light flashes after the
power switch has been turned off to
indicate that the system is operating.
The indicator light stops flashing after
the power switch has been turned to
ACCESSORY or ON mode to indi-
cate that the system has been canceled.
■System maintenance
The vehicle has a maintenance-free type immobilizer system.
■Conditions that may cause the system to malfunction
●If the grip portion of the key is in contact with a metallic object
●If the key is in close proximity to or touching a key to the security system (key with a
built-in transponder chip) of another vehicle
The vehicle’s keys have built-in transpon der chips that prevent the hybrid sys-
tem from starting if a key has not been previously registered in the vehicle’s
on-board computer.
Never leave the keys inside the vehicle when you leave the vehicle.
This system is designed to help prev ent vehicle theft but does not guarantee
absolute security against all vehicle thefts.

Operation of each component
GS450h_300h_OM_OM30F92E_(EE)
■Electronic Key Battery-Saving Function
When battery-saving mode is set, battery de pletion is minimized by stopping the elec-
tronic key from receiving radio waves.
■Conditions affecting operation
The smart entry & start system uses weak ra dio waves. In the following situations, the
communication between the electronic key and the vehicle may be affected, preventing
the smart entry & start system, wireless re mote control and immobilizer system from
operating properly. (Ways of coping: P. 527)
●When the electronic key battery is depleted
●Near a TV tower, electric power plant, gas st ation, radio station, large display, airport or
other facility that gene rates strong radio waves or electrical noise
●When the electronic key is in contact wi th, or is covered by the following metallic
objects

Driving
GS450h_300h_OM_OM30F92E_(EE) If the hybrid system is stopped with the shift lever in a position other than P, the
power switch will not be turned off but instead be turned to ACCESSORY
mode. Perform the following procedure to turn the switch off:
Check that the parking brake is set.
Shift the shift lever to P.
Check that “Turn Off Vehicle” is displayed on the multi-information display
and then press the power switch once.
Check that “Turn Off Vehicle” on the multi-information display is off.
■Auto power off function
If the vehicle is left in ACCESSORY mode for more than 20 mi nutes or ON mode (the
hybrid system is not operating) for more than an hour with the shift lever in P, the power
switch will automatically turn off. However, this function cannot entirely prevent 12-volt
battery discharge. Do not leave the vehicle with the power switch in ACCESSORY or
ON mode for long periods of time when the hybrid system is not operating.
■Sounds and vibrations specific to a hybrid vehicle P. 79
■Electronic key battery depletion P. 136
■When the ambient temperature is low, su ch as during winter driving conditions
When starting the hybrid system, the flashing time of the “READY” indicator may be
long. Leave the vehicle as it is until the “REA DY” indicator is steady on, as steady means
the vehicle is able to move.
■Conditions affecting operation P. 155
■Notes for the push-start function P. 157
■If the hybrid system does not start
●The immobilizer system may not have been deactivated. ( P. 85)
Contact any authorized Lexus retailer or Le xus authorized repairer, or any reliable
repairer.
●Check that the shift lever is securely set in P. The hybrid system may not start if the shift
lever is displaced out of P. “Shift to P posi tion to Start” will be displayed on the multi-
information display.
■Steering lock
After turning the power switch off and opening and closing the doors, the steering wheel
will be locked due to the steering lock func tion. Operating the power switch again auto-
matically cancels the steering lock.

than P

7-2. Steps to take in an emergency
When trouble arises
GS450h_300h_OM_OM30F92E_(EE)
If the hybrid system will not start
One of the following may be the cause of the problem: ●The electronic key may not be functioning properly. ( P. 528)
● There may not be sufficient fuel in the vehicle’s tank.
Refuel the vehicle.
● There may be a malfunction in the immobilizer system. ( P. 85)
● There may be a malfunction in the steering lock system.
● The hybrid system may be malfunctioning due to an electrical problem such
as electronic key battery depletion or a blown fuse. However, depending on
the type of malfunction, an interim measure is available to start the hybrid sys-
tem. ( P. 524)
One of the following may be the cause of the problem: ● The 12-volt battery may be discharged. ( P. 530)
● The 12-volt battery terminal connections may be loose or corroded. ( P. 412)
One of the following may be the cause of the problem: ● The 12-volt battery may be discharged. ( P. 530)
● One or both of the 12-volt battery terminals may be disconnected. ( P. 412)
Contact any authorized Lexus retailer or Le xus authorized repairer, or any reliable
repairer if the problem cannot be repaired , or if repair procedures are unknown.
Reasons for the hybrid system not starting vary depending on the situation.
Check the following and perform the appropriate procedure:
The hybrid system will not start even though the correct starting proce-
dure is being followed. ( P. 217)
The interior lights and headlights are dim, or the horn does not sound or
sounds at a low volume.
The interior lights and he adlights do not turn on, or the horn does not
sound.
