4. Fit the replacement battery in the vehicle.
REINITIALISATION PROCEDURE AFTER
BATTERY RECONNECTION
If the battery has been reconnected, check the
following items:
•Clock setting (if so equipped). For details,
seeClockin the2. Instruments and con-
trolssection, or the separately provided
navigation system Owner’s Manual, or the
audio device descriptions inAudio system
(if equipped)in the4. Display screen,
heater and air conditioner, and audio sys-
temsection.
•Reset the desired radio stations to the
preset station buttons. For details, see the
audio device descriptions in the “4. Heater
and air conditioner, and audio system”.
JUMP-STARTING
If jump-starting is necessary, seeJump
startingin the6. In case of emergencysec-
tion. If the engine does not start by jump
starting, the battery may have to be replaced. It
is recommended that you visit an INFINITI re-
tailer for this service.
WARNING
Be sure the ignition switch is in the OFF posi-
tion before servicing drive belt. The engine
could rotate unexpectedly.
1. Visually inspect each belt for signs of un-
usual wear, cuts, fraying or looseness. If the
belt is in poor condition or loose, have it
replaced or adjusted. It is recommended that
you visit an INFINITI retailer for this service.
2. Have the belts checked regularly for condi-
tion and tension in accordance with the
maintenance schedule as shown in a sepa-
rately provided Warranty Information and
Maintenance booklet.

DRIVE BELT
8-12Do-it-yourself
Confirm the following for the TPMS:
WARNING
•The use of tires other than those recom-
mended or the mixed use of tires of different
brands, construction (bias, bias-belted or
radial), or tread patterns can adversely af-
fect the ride, braking, handling, VDC sys-
tem, ground clearance, body-to-tire clear-
ance, tire chain clearance, speedometer
calibration, headlight aim and bumper
height. Some of these effects may lead to
accidents and could result in serious per-
sonal injury.
•For 2WD models, if your vehicle was origi-
nally equipped with 4 tires that were the
same size and you are only replacing 2 of
the 4 tires, install the new tires on the rear
axle. Placing new tires on the front axle may
cause loss of vehicle control in some driving
conditions and cause an accident and per-
sonal injury.
•If the wheels are changed for any reason,
always replace with wheels which have the
same off-set dimension. Wheels of a differ-
ent off-set could cause premature tire wear,
degrade vehicle handling characteristics,
affect the VDC system and/or interferencewith the brake discs. Such interference can
lead to decreased braking efficiency and/or
early brake pad wear. For additional infor-
mation on wheel off-set dimensions, refer to
Wheels and Tiresin the9. Maintenance
and Schedulessection.
•When a replacement tire is mounted or a
wheel is replaced, the TPMS will not func-
tion and the low tire pressure warning light
will flash for approximately 1 minute. The
light will remain on after 1 minute. Contact
an INFINITI retailer as soon as possible for
tire replacement and/or system resetting.
•Replacing tires with those not originally
specified by INFINITI could affect the proper
operation of the TPMS.
•The TPMS sensor may be damaged if it is
not handled correctly. Be careful when han-
dling the TPMS sensor.
•When replacing the TPMS sensor, the ID
registration may be required. It is recom-
mended that you visit an INFINITI retailer for
ID registration.
•Do not use a valve stem cap that is not
specified by INFINITI. The valve stem cap
may become stuck.
•Be sure that the valve stem caps are cor-
rectly fitted. Otherwise the valve may be
clogged up with dirt and cause a malfunc-
tion or loss of pressure.
•Do not install a damaged or deformed wheel
or tire even if it has been repaired. Such
wheels or tires could have structural dam-
age and could fail without warning.
•The use of retread tires is not recom-
mended.
•For additional information regarding tires,
refer toImportant Tire Safety Information
(US) orTire Safety Information(Canada) in
the Warranty Information Booklet.
Care of wheels
•Wash the wheels when washing the vehicle
to maintain their appearance.
•Clean the inner side of the wheels when the
wheel is changed or the underside of the
vehicle is washed.
•Do not use abrasive cleaners when washing
the wheels.
•Inspect wheel rims regularly for dents or
corrosion. Such damage may cause loss of
pressure or poor seal at the tire bead.

MAINTENANCE SERVICE MESSAGES
The maintenance service interval display in-
forms you of the next service due date.
NOTE
The maintenance service interval display does
not show any information on the engine oil level.
The vehicle information display shows a service
message for a few seconds, e g:
•[Service A In .. days]
•[Service A Due]
•[Service A Exceeded by .. days]
Depending on the operating conditions of the
vehicle, the remaining time or distance until the
next service due date is displayed.
The letter indicates which service is due. A
stands for a minor service and B for a major
service. A number or another letter may be
displayed after the letter.
Only for certain countries: the position after the
letter A or B indicates any necessary additional
maintenance work. If you notify an INFINITI
retailer of this display, you will receive a state-
ment on the associated costs. The maintenance service interval display does
not take into account any periods of time during
which the battery is disconnected.
Maintaining the time-dependent service sched-
ule:
Note down the service due date displayed in the
vehicle information display before disconnect-
ing the battery.
or
After reconnecting the battery, subtract the
battery disconnection periods from the service
date shown on the display.Hiding service messages

Information about service
Resetting the maintenance service interval dis-
play:
CAUTION
If the maintenance service interval display has
been inadvertently reset, this setting can be
corrected at an INFINITI retailer.
Have service work carried out as described in
the Maintenance Schedule. This may other-
wise lead to increased wear and damage to the
major assemblies or the vehicle.
An INFINITI retailer will reset the maintenance
service interval display after the service work
has been carried out. You can also obtain
further information on maintenance work, for
example.
Special service requirements
:
The prescribed service interval is based on
normal operation of the vehicle. Service work
will need to be performed more often if the
vehicle is operated under arduous conditions or
increased loads, for example:
•Regular city driving with frequent intermedi-
ate stops
•If the vehicle is primarily used to travel short
distance
9-8Maintenance and Schedules
For Canada:
If you believe that your vehicle has a defect
which could cause a crash or could cause injury
or death, you should immediately inform Trans-
port Canada in addition to notifying INFINITI.
If Transport Canada receives complaints, it may
open an investigation, and if it finds that a
safety defect exists in a group of vehicles, it
may request that INFINITI conduct a recall cam-
paign. However, Transport Canada cannot be-
come involved in individual problems between
you, your retailer, or INFINITI.
You may contact Transport Canada’s Defect
Investigations and Recalls Division toll free at
1-800-333- 0510. You may also report safety
defects online at:

roadsafety (English speakers) or www.tc.gc.ca/
securiteroutiere (French speakers).
To notify INFINITI of any safety concerns please
contact our Consumer Information Center toll
free at 1-800- 361-4792.WARNING
A vehicle equipped with All-Wheel Drive (AWD)
should never be tested using a two wheel dy-
namometer (such as the dynamometers used
by some states for emissions testing), or simi-
lar equipment. Make sure you inform test facil-
ity personnel that your vehicle is equipped
with AWD before it is placed on a dynamom-
eter. Using the wrong test equipment may re-
sult in transmission damage or unexpected ve-
hicle movement which could result in serious
vehicle damage or personal injury.
Due to legal requirements in some states and
Canadian Provinces, your vehicle may be re-
quired to be in what is called the “ready
condition” for an Inspection/Maintenance (I/M)
test of the emission control system.
The vehicle is set to the “ready condition” when
it is driven through certain driving patterns.
Usually, the “ready condition” can be obtained
by ordinary usage of the vehicle.
If a powertrain system component is repaired or
the battery is disconnected, the vehicle may be
reset to a “not ready condition”. Before taking
the I/M test, check the vehicle’s inspection/
maintenance test readiness condition. Place the
ignition switch in the ON position without start-ing the engine. If the Malfunction Indicator Light
(MIL) comes on steady for 20 seconds and then
blinks for 10 seconds, the I/M test condition is
“not ready”. If the MIL does not blink after 20
seconds, the I/M test condition is “ready”.
It is recommended you contact an INFINITI re-
tailer to set the “ready condition” or to prepare
the vehicle for testing.
