•The vehicle generally moves or pulls in the
direction of the flat tire.
•Do not rapidly apply the brakes.
•Do not rapidly release the accelerator
pedal.
•Do not rapidly turn the steering wheel.
1. Remain calm and do not overreact.
2. Maintain a firm grip on the steering wheel
with both hands and try to hold a straight
course.
3. When appropriate, slowly release the accel-
erator pedal to gradually slow the vehicle.
4. Gradually steer the vehicle to a safe location
off the road and away from traffic if possible.
5. Lightly apply the brake pedal to gradually
stop the vehicle.
6. Turn on the hazard warning flashers and
contact a roadside emergency service to

DRINKING ALCOHOL/DRUGS AND
DRIVING
WARNING
Never drive under the influence of alcohol or
drugs. Alcohol in the bloodstream reduces co-
ordination, delays reaction time and impairs
judgement. Driving after drinking alcohol in-
creases the likelihood of being involved in an
accident injuring yourself and others. Addi-
tionally, if you are injured in an accident, alco-
hol can increase the severity of the injury.
INFINITI is committed to safe driving. However,
you must choose not to drive under the influ-
ence of alcohol. Every year thousands of people
are injured or killed in alcohol-related acci-
dents. Although the local laws vary on what is
considered to be legally intoxicated, the fact is
that alcohol affects all people differently and
most people underestimate the effects of alco-
hol.
Remember, drinking and driving don’t mix! And
that is true for drugs, too (over-the-counter,
prescription, and illegal drugs). Don’t drive if
your ability to operate your vehicle is impaired
by alcohol, drugs, or some other physical con-
dition.
DRIVING SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
Your INFINITI is designed for both normal and
off-road use. However, avoid driving in deep
water or mud as your INFINITI is mainly de-
signed for leisure use, unlike a conventional
off-road vehicle.
Remember that 2–wheel drive vehicles are less
capable than all-wheel drive (AWD) models for
rough road driving and extrication when stuck
in deep snow or mud, or the like.
Please observe the following precautions:
WARNING
•Spinning the front wheels on slippery sur-
faces may cause the AWD warning message
to display and the AWD system to automati-
cally switch from the AWD to 2WD mode.
This could reduce the traction. Be especially
careful when towing a trailer. (AWD models)
•Drive carefully when off the road and avoid
dangerous areas. Every person who drives
or rides in this vehicle should be seated
with their seat belt fastened. This will keep
you and your passengers in position when
driving over rough terrain.

FEB SYSTEM LIMITATIONS
WARNING
Listed below are the system limitations for the
FEB system. Failure to operate the vehicle in
accordance with these system limitations
could result in serious injury or death.
•The FEB system cannot detect all vehicles
under all conditions.
•The radar sensor does not detect the follow-
ing objects:
–Pedestrians or animals
–Oncoming vehicles
–Crossing vehicles
•The radar sensor has some performance
limitations. For stationary vehicles, the FEB
system will not function when the vehicle is
driven at speeds over:
–Approximately 31 MPH (50 km/h) for the
Autonomous braking function.
•The radar sensor may not detect a vehicle
ahead in the following conditions:
–Dirt, ice, snow or other material covering
the radar sensor.
–Interference by other radar sources.
–Snow or heavy rain.
–If the vehicle ahead is narrow (e.g. mo-
torcycle).
–If the vehicle ahead is in a different lane.–Under strong radar reflections, for ex-
ample, in a multi-level parking garage.
–New vehicle or after a maintenance of
the FEB system. For additional informa-
tion, seeBreak-in schedulelater in this
section
–When driving on a steep downhill slope
or roads with sharp curves.
–When towing a trailer.
•In some road or traffic conditions, the FEB
system may intervene unnecessarily or give
an unnecessary warning. Always pay care-
ful attention to the traffic situation. Do not
rely solely on the distance warning function
and terminate the intervention if necessary.
•Braking distances increase on slippery sur-
faces.
•The system is designed to automatically check
the sensor’s functionality, within certain limi-
tations. The system may not detect some forms
of obstruction of the sensor area such as ice,
snow, stickers, for example. In these cases, the
system may not be able to warn the driver prop-
erly. Be sure that you check, clean and clear the
sensor area regularly.
•Excessive noise will interfere with the warn-
ing chime sound, and the chime may not be
heard.

CAUTION
•Always connect positive+to positive+and negative-to body ground (for ex-
ample, strut mounting bolt, engine lift
bracket, etc.) – not to the battery’s negative

•Be sure that the jumper cables do not touch
moving parts in the engine compartment
and that the cable clamps do not contact
any other metal.
9. Start the engine of the other vehicle

let it run for a few minutes. Keep the engine
speed at about 2,000 rpm.
10. Start the engine of your vehicle
Bin the
normal way.
CAUTION
Do not keep the starter motor engaged for
more than 10 seconds. If the engine does not
start right away, place the ignition switch in
the OFF position and wait 10 seconds before
trying again.11. After starting the engine of your vehicle,
carefully disconnect the negative lead and
then the positive lead (
4→3→2→
1).
12. Remove and dispose of the cloth that was
used to cover the ventilator holes as it may
be contaminated with corrosive acid.
13. Install the ventilator caps (if equipped).
14. Close the hood.
NOTE
For models which incorporate the Idle Stop/
Start System:
•Ensure that the battery fitted is the special
battery that is enhanced with regard to the
charge-discharge capacity and life perfor-
mance. Avoid using any other battery for the
Idle Stop/Start System, as this may cause
early deterioration of the battery or a mal-
function of the Idle Stop/Start System. It is
recommended that a Genuine INFINITI bat-
tery is fitted. For more information, it is
recommended you contact an INFINITI re-
tailer.
•If the battery terminal is disconnected (for
battery replacement, etc.) and then recon-
nected, there may be some delay before the
Idle top/Start System reactivates.Do not attempt to start the engine by pushing
the vehicle.
CAUTION
•Automatic Transmission (AT) model cannot
be push-started or tow-started. Attempting
to do so may cause damage to the transmis-
sion.
•Three-way catalyst equipped models
should not be started by pushing. Attempt-
ing to do so may cause damage to the three-
way catalyst.
•Never try to start the vehicle by towing it;
when the engine starts, the forward surge
could cause the vehicle to collide with the
tow vehicle.
PUSH STARTING

When towing your vehicle, all jurisdictions and
local regulations for towing must be followed.
Incorrect towing equipment could damage your
vehicle. Towing instructions are available from
an INFINITI retailer. Local service operators are
generally familiar with the applicable laws and
procedures for towing. To assure proper towing
and to prevent accidental damage to your ve-
hicle, INFINITI recommends having a service
operator tow your vehicle. It is advisable to
have the service operator carefully read the
following precautions.
WARNING
•Never ride in a vehicle that is being towed.
•Never get under your vehicle after it has
been lifted by a tow truck.
CAUTION
•When towing, make sure that the transmis-
sion, axles, steering system and powertrain
are in working condition. If any of these con-
ditions apply, dollies or a flatbed tow truck
must be used.
•Always attach safety chains before towing.
TOWING RECOMMENDED BY INFINITI
INFINITI recommends towing your vehicle based
upon the type of drivetrain. Please refer to the
diagrams in this section to ensure that your
vehicle is properly towed.

CAUTION
NEVER tow automatic transmission (DCT) mod-
els with the front wheels on the ground or with
all four wheels on the ground (forwards or
backwards), as this may cause serious and ex-
pensive damage to the transmission. If it is
necessary to tow the vehicle with the rear
wheels raised, always use towing dollies un-
der the front wheels.
Four-Wheel Drive (4WD) models
INFINITI recommends that towing dollies be
used under the front or rear wheels when
towing your vehicle or the vehicle be placed on
a flatbed tow truck as illustrated.
CAUTION
Never tow 4WD models with any of the wheels
on the ground. Doing so will cause serious and
expensive damage to the drivetrain.
Vehicle recovery (freeing a stuck
vehicle)
WARNING
To avoid vehicle damage, serious personal in-
jury or death when recovering a stuck vehicle:
•Contact a professional towing service to
recover the vehicle if you have any ques-
tions regarding the recovery procedure.
•Tow chains or cables must be attached only
to the vehicle recovery hooks or main struc-
tural members of the vehicle.
•Do not use the vehicle tie downs to tow or
free a stuck vehicle.

•Only use devices specifically designed for
vehicle recovery and follow the manufactur-
er’s instructions.
•Always pull the recovery device straight out
from the front of the vehicle. Never pull at an
angle.
•Route recovery devices so they do not touch
any part of the vehicle except the attach-
ment point.
If your vehicle is stuck in sand, snow, or mud,
and the vehicle is unable to free itself without
being pulled, use the recovery hook stored in
the vehicle trunk.
WARNING
•Use the recovery hook only. Do not attach
the pulling device to any other part of the
vehicle body. Otherwise, the vehicle body
may be damaged.
•Use the recovery hook to free a vehicle only.
Never tow a vehicle using only the recovery
hook.
•The recovery hook is under tremendous
stress when used to free a trapped vehicle.
Always pull the pulling device straight out
from the vehicle. Never pull on the recovery
hook at an angle.
Securely install the recovery hook (stored in the
vehicle trunk) to the attaching mount located on
the front or rear bumper.
Make sure that the recovery hook is properly
secured in its storage location after use and the
license plate is properly reinstalled before driv-
ing the vehicle.
Rocking a stuck vehicle
WARNING
•To avoid potential injury, stand clear of a
stuck vehicle.
•Do not spin your tires at high speed. This
could cause them to explode and result in
serious injury. Parts of your vehicle could
also overheat and be damaged.If your vehicle is stuck in sand, snow, mud, etc.,
use the following procedure:
1. Turn off the Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC)
system.
2. Make sure the area in front and behind the
vehicle is clear of obstructions.
3. Turn the steering wheel right and left to
clear an area around the front tires.
4. Slowly rock the vehicle forward and back-
ward.
•Shift back and forth between R (Reverse)
and D (Drive).
•Apply the accelerator as little as possible to
maintain the rocking motion.
•Release the accelerator pedal before shifting
between R (Reverse) and D (Drive).
•Do not spin the tires above 35 MPH (55
km/h).
5. If the vehicle cannot be freed after a few
tries, contact a professional towing service
to remove the vehicle.
