The front passenger air bag is designed to au-
tomatically turn OFF under some conditions.
Read this section carefully to learn how it op-
erates. Proper use of the seat, seat belt and
child restraints is necessary for most effective
protection. Failure to follow all instructions in
this manual concerning the use of seats, seat
belts and child restraints can increase the risk
or severity of injury in an accident.

The indicator lamps inform you whether the
front-passenger front air bag is disabled or
enabled.
Turn the key to the ACC or ON position in the
ignition switch. The system carries out a self-
diagnosis.
The and AIRBAG ON> indicator lamps must light up si-
multaneously for approximately six seconds.The indicator lamps display the status of the
front-passenger front air bag:
• lights up: the
front-passenger front air bag is enabled. If, in
the event of an accident, all deployment
criteria are met, the front-passenger front air
bag is deployed.
• lights up: the
front-passenger front air bag is disabled. It
will then not be deployed in the event of an
accident.

If the automatic front-passenger air bag deacti-
vation system detects that:
•The front-passenger seat is unoccupied, the
indicator lamp
lights up after the system self-test and re-
mains lit. This indicates that the front pas-
senger front air bag is disabled.
•The front-passenger seat is occupied by a
child in a rearward-facing child restraint sys-
tem, the indicator
lamp lights up after the system self test and
remains lit. This indicates that the front-
passenger front air bag is disabled.
If the indicator
lamp remains off and/or the BAG ON> indicator lamp lights up, do not
install a rearward facing child restraint sys-
tem on the front passenger seat. For further

this section.
•The front-passenger seat is occupied by a
child in a forward-facing child restraint sys-
tem, either the or
indicator lamp
lights up and remains lit after the system
self-test depending on the result of the clas-
sification. The result of the classification is
dependent on, among other factors, the child
restraint system and the child’s build.Move the front-passenger seat as far back as
possible. SeeChild restraintsearlier in this
section.
•The front-passenger seat is occupied by a
person with a smaller build (e.g. a teenager
or small adult), either the BAG ON> or indi-
cator lamp lights up and remains lit after the
system self test depending on the result of
the classification.
– If the indicator
lamp lights up, move the front-passenger
seat as far back as possible. Alternatively,
a person with a small build can sit on a
rear seat.
– If the indicator
lamp is lit, a person with a smaller build
should not use the front-passenger seat.
•The front-passenger seat is occupied by an
adult or a person with a build corresponding
to that of an adult, the ON> indicator lamp lights up after the system
self-test and remains lit. This indicates that
the front-passenger front air bag is enabled.If the automatic front-passenger front air bag
deactivation system is malfunctioning, the red
restraint system warning lamp in the
combination meter and the BAG OFF> indicator lamp light up simultane-
ously. The front-passenger front air bag is dis-
abled in this case and does not deploy during
an accident. Have the system checked as soon
as possible by qualified technicians. It is rec-
ommended that you visit an INFINITI retailer for

front passenger air bag to be automatically turned OFF. For small adults it may be turned OFF, however if the occupant takes his/her
weight off the seat cushion (for example, by not sitting upright, by sitting on an edge of the seat, or by otherwise being out of position),
this could cause the sensor to turn the air bag OFF. Always be sure to be seated and wearing the seat belt properly for the most effective
protection by the seat belt and supplemental air bag.
If additional forces are applied to the seat, the system may interpret the occupant’s weight as lower than it actually is.
1. Stop the vehicle in a safe area away from traffic as soon as possible, paying attention to road and traffic conditions.
2. Secure the vehicle against rolling away.
3. Switch the ignition off.
4. Have the occupant on the front-passenger seat step out of the vehicle.
5. Make sure that the seat is unoccupied, close the front passenger door and switch on the ignition.
6. Observe the indicator lights in the center console and the vehicle information display and check the following.
