SWITCHING THE REAR WINDOW WIPER
ON/OFF
WARNING
In freezing temperatures the washer solution
may freeze on the windshield and obscure your
vision which may lead to an accident. Warm
the windshield with the defroster before you
wash the windshield.
CAUTION
•Do not operate the washer continuously for
more than 30 seconds.
•Do not operate the washer if the window
washer fluid reservoir is empty.
•Do not fill the window washer reservoir tank
with washer fluid concentrates at full
strength. Some methyl alcohol based
washer fluid concentrates may permanently
stain the grille if spilled while filling the
window washer reservoir tank.
•Pre-mix washer fluid concentrates with wa-
ter to the manufacturer’s recommended lev-
els before pouring the fluid into the window
washer reservoir tank. Do not use the win-
dow washer reservoir tank to mix the
washer fluid concentrate and water.

Boperates when the
ignition switch is in the ON position for the rear
window, and (if equipped) for the outside rear
view mirrors.
The defroster is used to reduce the moisture,
fog or frost on the rear window surface and on
the outside mirror surface to improve the rear
view.
When the defroster switch
is pushed, the
indicator light illuminates and the defroster
operates for several minutes. After the preset
time has passed, the defroster will turn off
automatically. To turn off the defroster manu-
ally, push the defroster switch

light in the switch illuminates. The climate
control system switches to the following func-
tions:
•High airflow
•High temperature
•Air distribution to the windshield and front
side windows
•Air recirculation mode off
NOTE
The “Windshield demisting” function automati-
cally sets the blower output to the optimum de-
misting effect. As a result, the airflow may in-
crease or decrease automatically after the
button is pressed
NOTE
You can adjust the blower output manually while
the “Windshield demisting” function is in opera-
tion: by adjusting the airflow control for the air-

Automatic headlight mode
light setting is automatically selected according
to the brightness of the ambient light (excep-
tion: poor visibility due to weather conditions
such as fog, snow or spray):
•Ignition switch in ACC or ON position: the
side lights are switched on or off automati-
cally depending on the brightness of the
ambient light.
•With the engine running: if you have
switched on the daytime driving lights func-
tion in the vehicle information display, the
side lights and low beam headlights are
switched on or off automatically depending
on the brightness of the ambient light.
To switch on automatic headlight mode:turn the
light switch to
WARNING
When the light switch is set to
low-beam headlights may not be switched on
automatically if there is fog, snow or other
causes of poor visibility due to the weather
conditions such as spray. There is a risk of an
accident
In such situations, turn the light switch to
.The automatic headlight feature is only an aid.
The driver is responsible for the vehicle lighting
at all times.
The daytime driving lights improve the detect-
ability of your vehicle during the day.
WARNING
When the daytime running light system is ac-
tive, tail lights on your vehicle are not on. It is
necessary at dusk to turn on your headlights.
Failure to do so could cause an accident injur-
ing yourself and others.
When the side lights and low-beam headlights
are switched on, the green
(side lights)
and(low-beam headlights) indicator
lights in the combination meter light up.
Low-beam headlights
When the ignition is switched on and the light
switch is in theposition, the side lights
and low-beam headlights are switched on even
if the light sensor does not sense dark ambient
light conditions. This is advantageous when
there is fog or rain.To switch on the low-beam headlights:
•Switch the ignition switch to the ON posi-
tion, or start the engine.
•Turn the light switch to. The greenindicator light in the combination me-
ter lights up.
Side lights
NOTE
Always park your vehicle safely and sufficiently
lit according to legal standards. To reduce the
chance of a discharged vehicle battery, avoid the
continuous use of the
sidelights or park-
ing lights for several hours.
To switch on:turn the light switch to
. The
greenindicator light in the combination
meter lights up.
Parking lights
Switching on the parking lights ensures that the
corresponding side of the vehicle is illuminated.

ADAPTIVE FRONT LIGHTING SYSTEM
(LED HEADLIGHT ONLY) (IF EQUIPPED)
The Adaptive Front Lighting System is a system
that adjusts the headlights automatically to suit
the prevailing driving and weather conditions. It
offers advanced functions for improved illumi-
nation of the road surface, e.g. depending on
the vehicle speed or weather conditions. The
system includes the active light function, cor-
nering light function and freeway mode. The
system is only active when it is dark.
You can activate or deactivate the “Adaptive
Front Lighting System” function using the ve-
hicle information display (seeSwitching the
Adaptive Front Lighting System on/offearlier in
this section)

•In very rare cases, High beam Assist recog-
nizes road users too late or not at all. In this,
or in similar situations, the automatic high
beam headlights will not be deactivated or
activated regardless. There is a risk of an
accident.
•Always carefully observe the traffic condi-
tions and switch off the high beam head-
lights in good time.
CAUTION
High beam Assist cannot compensate for road
and weather circumstances while driving. The
system saves the driver from having to operate
the switch. The driver always remains respon-
sible for choosing the correct light setting.
Specific situations in which to operate the
headlight switch manually:
•In heavy rain, snowy conditions. (general
poor visibility and bad weather conditions).
•When the vehicle sensors are dirty, covered
or broken.

3. Theindicator
light in the vehicle information display lights up
when it is dark and the light sensor switches on
the low-beam headlights.
If you are driving at speeds above approxi-
mately 28 MPH (45 km/h) the headlight range is
set automatically depending on the distance
between the vehicle and other road users.
If you are driving at speeds above approximately
34 MPH (55 km/h) and no other road users are
detected, the high beam headlights are switched
on automatically. The
indicator light in the
combination meter also lights up.
If you are driving at speeds below approxi-
mately 28 MPH (45 km/h) or other road users
are detected or the roads are adequately lit The
high beam headlights are switched off auto-
matically. The
indicator light in the

tor light in the vehicle information display re-
mains lit.
To deactivate
:
Move the combination switch back to its normal
