If a message regarding a blocked sensoror camera appears in the informationdisplay, the radar signals or camera imagesare obstructed. The radar sensor is locatedbehind a fascia cover near the driver sideof the lower grille. With an obstructedradar, the Pre-Collision Assist system doesnot function and cannot detect a vehicle
ahead. With the front camera obstructed,the Pre-Collision Assist system does notrespond to pedestrians or stationaryvehicles and the system performance onmoving vehicles reduces. The followingtable lists possible causes and actions forwhen this message displays.
ActionCause
Clean the grille surface in front of the radaror remove the object causing the obstruc-tion.
The surface of the radar in the grille is dirtyor obstructed in some way.
Wait a short time. It may take severalminutes for the radar to detect that thereis no obstruction.

FOUR WHEELS
Emergency Towing
In the event your vehicle becomes disabled(without access to wheel dollies,car-hauling trailer, or flatbed transportvehicle), it can be flat-towed (all wheelson the ground, regardless of thepowertrain/transmission configuration)under the following conditions:
•The vehicle is facing forward so that itis towed in a forward direction.
•Place the transmission in position N. Ifyou cannot move the transmission intoN, you must override it and enable stayin neutral mode. Failing to do so mayresult in damage to the transmission.See Transmission (page 170).
•Maximum speed is 35 mph (56 km/h).
•Maximum distance is 50 miles (80kilometers).
Recreational Towing
Note: Put your climate control system inrecirculated air mode to prevent exhaustfumes from entering your vehicle. SeeClimate Control (page 116).
Follow these guidelines if you have a needfor recreational (RV) towing. An exampleof recreational towing would be towingyour vehicle behind a motorhome. Theseguidelines are designed to ensure that yourtransmission is not damaged.
Your vehicle can be towed with all fourwheels on the ground using the NeutralTow feature, or with all four wheels off theground using a vehicle transport trailer. Ifyou are using a vehicle transport trailer,follow the instruction specified by theequipment provider.
Neutral Tow
If you tow your vehicle with all four wheelson the ground:
•Tow only in the forward direction.
•Release the parking brake.
•Place the vehicle in Neutral Tow modeby doing the following:
•Put the ignition in accessory mode(ignition on, engine off). SeeKeyless Starting (page 141).
•Select the neutral tow option in theinformation display.
•When prompted by the informationdisplay, press the brake pedal andselect Neutral on the transmission.Make sure the parking brake is off.If done successfully, a confirmationmessage appears in the display.
•Shut the ignition off. See KeylessStarting (page 141). If the processis completed successfully, the N onthe transmission slowly blinks anda confirmation message appearsin the display.
•Do not exceed 70 mph (113 km/h).
•Start the engine and allow it to run forone minute at the beginning of eachday. With the engine running and yourfoot on the brake, shift into position Dand then into position R before shiftingback into position N.

Towing

BREAKING-IN
You need to break in new tires forapproximately 300 miles (480kilometers). During this time, your vehiclemay exhibit some unusual drivingcharacteristics. The engine also needs tobreak in. Avoid hard accelerations anddriving too fast for the first 1000 miles(1600 kilometers). If possible, avoidcarrying heavy loads up steep gradesduring the break-in period.
ECONOMICAL DRIVING
Your fuel economy depends on:
•How you drive your vehicle.
•How you maintain your vehicle.
•The conditions you drive your vehiclein.
You may improve your fuel economy bykeeping these in mind:
•Drive your vehicle at reasonablespeeds. Traveling at 65 mph(105 km/h) uses about 15% less fuelthan traveling at 75 mph (121 km/h).
•Drive at steady speeds withoutstopping.
•Anticipate stops. Slowing down yourvehicle may eliminate the need to stop.
•Keep the tires properly inflated and useonly the recommended size.
•Switch off the heater if you do not needit. When you have the heater on, keepit at the lowest blower andtemperature setting necessary to becomfortable.
•When it is cold outside, park in a sunnylocation or a climate-controlledenvironment. This may save fuel byreducing the energy needed to heat thecabin.
•Switch off the air conditioning if you donot need it. When you have the airconditioning on, keep it at the lowestblower and highest temperaturesetting necessary to be comfortable.
•When it is hot or sunny outside, parkingin a shaded or climate-controlledenvironment will save fuel by reducingthe energy needed to cool the cabin.
•For Plug-In Hybrid vehicles, usepreconditioning to improve your fueleconomy. See High Voltage Battery(page 162).
•Switch off the heated seats if you arenot using them.
•Switch off the defroster when you nolonger need it for visibility.
•For Plug-In Hybrid vehicles, plug in andrecharge the high voltage batterywhenever possible.
•Use ECO Cruise Control, especially inhilly terrain. See Cruise Control (page195).
•Shift into low gear (L) when enhancedengine braking is needed. Otherwise,use drive gear (D) shift position.
•Combine errands and minimizestop-and-go driving. A warmed upengine works more efficiently. Whenrunning errands, go to the farthestdestination first and then work yourway back home.
•Close the windows for high-speeddriving.
•Use the recommended engine oil. SeeCapacities and Specifications (page306).
•Perform all regularly scheduledmaintenance. See ScheduledMaintenance (page 466).
•Use the coach and brake coach displayto get feedback on your economicaldrive style. See Information Displays(page 94).

HAZARD WARNING FLASHERS
Note:If used when the vehicle is notrunning, the battery will lose charge. Theremay be insufficient power to restart yourvehicle.
The hazard warning button islocated on the instrument panel.Use it when your vehicle iscreating a safety hazard for othermotorists.
•Press the button to turn on the hazardwarning function, and the front andrear direction indicators will flash.
•Press the button again to turn themoff.
FUEL SHUTOFF
WARNING
Failure to inspect and, if necessary,repair fuel leaks after a collision mayincrease the risk of fire and seriousinjury. Ford Motor Company recommendsthat the fuel system be inspected by anauthorized dealer after any collision.
In the event of a moderate to severecollision, this vehicle has a fuel pumpshut-off feature that stops the flow of fuelto the engine. Not every impact will causea shut-off.
Should your vehicle shut off after acollision, you may restart your vehicle.
For vehicles equipped with a key system:
1. Switch off the ignition.
2. Switch on the ignition.
3. Check the information display for theReady to Drive light as the gasolineengine may not start, but the electricmotor may be running. If you do not seethe Ready to Drive light, repeat Steps1 and 2 up to two more times.
For vehicles equipped with a push buttonstart system:
1. Press the push button start to switchoff the ignition.
2. Press the brake pedal and press thepush button start to switch on theignition.
3. Check the information display for theReady to Drive light as the gasolineengine may not start, but the electricmotor may be running. If you do not seethe Ready to Drive light, repeat Steps1 and 2 up to two more times.

Roadside Emergencies

POST-CRASH ALERT SYSTEM
The system flashes the direction indicatorsand sounds the horn (intermittently) in theevent of a serious impact that deploys anairbag (front, side, side curtain or SafetyCanopy) or the safety belt pretensioners.
The horn and indicators will turn off when:
•You press the hazard control button.
•You press the panic button on theremote entry transmitter (if equipped).
•Your vehicle runs out of power.
SPINOUT DETECTION
If your vehicle detects a spinout and itcomes to a stop, the hazard warningflashers turn on. A spinout detectedmessage appears in the informationdisplay. The message may not appear ifyour vehicle runs out of power.
After your vehicle's hazard warningflashers turn on, you can switch them offby:
•Pressing the hazard warning flasherbutton.
•Pressing the remote control unlockbutton.
•Pressing the remote control panicbutton.
•Switching the ignition on and off twice.
TRANSPORTING THE VEHICLE
If you need to have your vehicle towed,contact a professional towing service or,if you are a member of a roadsideassistance program, your roadsideassistance service provider.
We recommend the use of a wheel lift anddollies or flatbed equipment to tow yourvehicle. Do not tow with a slingbelt. FordMotor Company has not approved aslingbelt towing procedure. Vehicledamage may occur if towed incorrectly, orby any other means.
Ford Motor Company produces a towingmanual for all authorized tow truckoperators. Have your tow truck operatorrefer to this manual for proper hook-upand towing procedures for your vehicle.
