Keep the outside of the windshield clean.The rain sensor is very sensitive. If the areaaround the mirror is dirty, then the wipersmay operate if dirt, mist or insects hit thewindshield.
WINDSHIELD WASHERS
Note:Do not operate the wipers on a drywindshield. This may scratch the glass,damage the wiper blades or cause the wipermotor to burn out. Always use thewindshield washers before wiping a drywindshield.
Note:Do not operate the washers whenthe washer reservoir is empty. This maycause the washer pump to overheat.
Press the end of the wiper lever to activatethe washer:
•A brief press causes a single wipewithout washer fluid.
•A quick press and hold causes thewipers to swipe the windshield threetimes with washer fluid.
•A long press and hold activates thewipers and washer fluid for up to 10seconds.
A wipe occurs a few seconds after washingto clear any remaining washer fluid. Youcan switch this feature on and off throughthe information display. See InformationDisplays (page 91).

Rear Window Wiper
Note:Make sure you switch off the wipersystem before using an automatic car wash.
Rotate the control to select:

Rear Window Washer
Rotate and hold the control to the top orbottom position to activate the rearwasher. The control returns to the 2 or 0position when you release it.

Headlamp Flasher
Slightly pull the lever toward you andrelease it to flash the headlamps.
AUTOLAMPS (If Equipped)
WARNING
The autolamps switch position maynot activate the headlamps in all lowvisibility conditions, such as daytimefog. Make sure the headlamps areswitched to auto or on, as appropriate,during all low visibility conditions. Failureto do so may result in a crash.
When the lighting control is in theautolamps position, the headlampsautomatically turn on in low light situationsor when the wipers activate.
If equipped, the following also activatewhen the lighting control is in theautolamps position and you switch themon in the information display:
•Configurable daytime running lamps.
•Automatic high beam control.
•Adaptive headlamp control.
The headlamps remain on for a period oftime after you switch the ignition off. Usethe information display controls to adjustthe period of time that the headlampsremain on. See Information Displays(page 91).
Note:With the headlamps in theautolamps position, you cannot switch thehigh beam headlamps on until theautolamps system turns the low beamheadlamps on.
Windshield Wiper ActivatedHeadlamps
The windshield wiper activated headlampsturn on within 10 seconds when you switchthe windshield wipers on and the lightingcontrol is in the autolamps position. Theyturn off approximately 60 seconds afteryou switch the windshield wipers off.
The headlamps do not turn on by wiperactivation:
•During a mist wipe.
•When the wipers are on to clear washerfluid during a wash condition.
•If the wipers are in intermittent mode.
Note:If you switch autolamps andautowipers on, the headlamps willautomatically turn on when the windshieldwipers continuously operate.

Engine Oil
If it illuminates with the enginerunning or when you are driving,this indicates a malfunction.Stop your vehicle as soon as it is safe todo so and switch the engine off. Check theengine oil level. See Engine Oil Check(page 245).
Note:Do not resume your journey if itilluminates despite the level being correct.Have the system checked by an authorizeddealer.
Fasten Safety Belt
It illuminates and a chimesounds to remind you to fastenyour safety belt.
Front Airbag
If it fails to illuminate on startup,continues to flash or remains on,it indicates a malfunction. Havethe system checked by an authorizeddealer. A chime sounds when there is amalfunction in the indicator light.
Front Fog Lamps (If Equipped)
It illuminates when you switchthe front fog lamps on.
High Beam
It illuminates when you switchthe headlamp high beam on. Itflashes when you use theheadlamp flasher.
Hill Descent (If Equipped)
Illuminates when you switch hilldescent on.
Liftgate Ajar
Lights when the liftgate is notcompletely closed.
Low Fuel Level
It illuminates when the fuel levelis low or near empty. Refuel assoon as possible.
Low Tire Pressure Warning
It illuminates when your tirepressure is low. If the lampremains on with the enginerunning or when driving, check your tirepressure as soon as possible.
The lamp also illuminates momentarilywhen you switch the ignition on to confirmthe lamp is functional. If it does notilluminate when you switch the ignition on,or begins to flash at any time, have thesystem checked by an authorized dealer.
Low Washer Fluid
It illuminates when thewindshield washer fluid is low.
Parking Lamps
It illuminates when you switchthe parking lamps on.
Powertrain Fault
Illuminates when a powertrainfault has been detected. Contactan authorized dealer as soon aspossible.

Power Distribution Box
WARNINGS
Always disconnect the battery beforeservicing high current fuses.
To reduce risk of electrical shock,always replace the cover to thepower distribution box beforereconnecting the battery or refilling fluidreservoirs.
The power distribution box is located inthe engine compartment. It hashigh-current fuses that protect yourvehicle’s main electrical systems fromoverloads.
If you disconnect and reconnect thebattery, you need to reset some features.See Changing the 12V Battery (page 253).

ENGINE COOLANT CHECK
WARNINGS
Do not add engine coolant when theengine is hot. Steam and scaldingliquids released from a hot coolingsystem can burn you badly. Also, spillingcoolant on hot engine parts can burn you.
Do not put engine coolant in thewindshield washer fluid container. Ifsprayed on the windshield, enginecoolant could make it difficult to seethrough the windshield.
To reduce the risk of personal injury,make sure the engine is cool beforeunscrewing the coolant pressurerelief cap. The cooling system is underpressure. Steam and hot liquid can comeout forcefully when you loosen the capslightly.
Do not add coolant further than theMAX mark.
When the engine is cold, check theconcentration and level of the coolant atthe intervals listed in the scheduledmaintenance information. See ScheduledMaintenance (page 443).
Note:Make sure that the coolant level isbetween the MIN and MAX marks on thecoolant reservoir.
Note: Coolant expands when it is hot. Thelevel may extend beyond the MAX mark.
Maintain coolant concentration within48% to 50%, which equates to a freezepoint between -30°F (-34°C) and -34°F(-37°C). Coolant concentration should bechecked using a refractometer. We do notrecommend the use of hydrometers orcoolant test strips for measuring coolantconcentration.
Adding Coolant
WARNING
Never remove the coolant reservoircap while the engine is running or hot.
Note: Automotive fluids are notinterchangeable. Take care not to putengine coolant in the windshield washerfluid reservoir or windshield washer fluid inthe engine coolant reservoir.
Note: Do not use stop leak pellets, coolingsystem sealants, or non-specified additivesas they can cause damage to the enginecooling or heating systems. Resultingcomponent damage may not be covered bythe vehicle Warranty.
It is very important to use predilutedcoolant approved to the correctspecification in order to avoid plugging thesmall passageways in the engine coolingsystem. See Capacities andSpecifications (page 304). Do not mixdifferent colors or types of coolant in yourvehicle. Mixing of engine coolants or usingan incorrect coolant may harm the engineor cooling system components and maynot be covered by the vehicle Warranty.
Note:If prediluted coolant is not available,use the approved concentrated coolantdiluting it to 50/50 with distilled water. SeeCapacities and Specifications (page 304).Using water that has not been deionisedmay contribute to deposit formation,corrosion and plugging of the small coolingsystem passageways.
