DOOR CENTRAL LOCKING/UNLOCKING
Locking from the outside
The doors will be locked only if all doors are shut. If
one or more of the doors is open after button
is pressed on the remote control fig. 57,
the direction indicators will flash quickly for around
three seconds. You can lock all the doors by turning
the key clockwise in the driver's door.
Pressing button
on the remote control twice in
quick succession to activate the dead lock device
(see "Dead lock").
Unlocking from the outside
Press button
briefly to unlock all the doors,
switch on the ceiling lights temporarily anddouble-flash the direction indicators. Turn the key
anticlockwise in the driver's door to unlock all
the doors.
SLIDING SIDE DOORS
(for versions/markets, where provided)
WARNING
Before opening a door, ensure that you
can do it in safety conditions.
Make sure that the right sliding side door
is all closed before refuelling to prevent
damage to the door and to the sliding
locking system with fuel filler cap open, activated
during refuelling operations.

WARNING
The right sliding side door cannot be
opened with the fuel flap open during
refuelling.
On Cargo versions, the sliding side door is fitted
with a spring-loaded latch that stops the door from
opening any further. To lock it, simply push the
door as far as it will go; to unlock it, pull forward
firmly.
In any case, make sure that the door is properly
hooked to the system which keeps the door fully
open.
WARNING
Do not leave the sliding side door open
when the vehicle is parked on a
gradient . A knock could release the latch leaving
the door free to move.
WARNING
Before leaving the vehicle parked with
sliding doors open, always check that
the latch is engaged.Opening/closing from the outside
Opening: turn the key in the lock and pull the handle
fig. 58 in the direction shown by the arrow, then
slide the door towards the rear of the vehicle until it
locks into place and can go no further.
Closing: push the handle A fig. 58 towards the front
of the vehicle. Turn the key with metal insert in
the closing direction.
Opening/closing from the inside
Opening: pull lever A fig. 59 and slide the door
towards the rear of the vehicle until it can go no
further.
Closing: press device A fig. 60 and close the door
sliding it towards the front of the vehicle.

The tailgate can be opened at any time if the doors
are unlocked.
To open it, enable the handle, opening one of the
front doors or unlocking the doors with the remote
control or using the key without remote control.
The tailgate unlocks also by pressing the
button
on the remote control.
To close the tailgate use handle B fig. 64.
Do not tr y to close the tailgate by
pressing on the side shock absorbers C
fig. 64. Also be careful not to knock the
side shock absorbers when you load the boot , to
avoid damaging them.
EMERGENCY OPENING FROM THE INSIDE
In the event of an emergency, you can open the
tailgate from inside as follows:
Open the sliding side door and fully fold the rear
seats;
from inside the boot, press lever A fig. 65 and
open the tailgate.
WARNING
If you are travelling in areas with few
filling stations and you want to
transport fuel in a spare tank, comply with the
law by using only an approved, suitably secured
tank. In the event of a collision the fire risk is
increased all the same.
WARNING
Never exceed the maximum allowed
load in the boot (see "Technical
Specifications" section). Also make sure that the
objects you place in the luggage compar tment
have been properly secured, to avoid them from
being thrown forward consequent to sudden
braking and injuring your passengers.

WARNING
The ultimate responsibility when
parking and carrying out other
dangerous manoeuvres still rests with the
driver.When parking, make sure that no-one is
standing in the area, especially children or
animals. Parking sensors are designed to assist
drivers; however, you must always concentrate
fully during potentially dangerous manoeuvres,
even if carried out at low speeds.
START&STOP SYSTEM
(for versions/markets, where provided)
INTRODUCTION
The Start&Stop device automatically stops the engine
each time the vehicle is stationary and starts it
again when the driver wants to move off. This
improves the efficiency of the vehicle by reducing fuel
consumption, the emission of harmful gases and
noise pollution.
OPERATING MODES
Engine stopping mode
WITH MANUAL GEARBOX
With the vehicle stationary, the engine stops with
the gearbox in neutral and the clutch pedal released.
WITH ROBOTISED GEARBOX
The engine cuts out if the vehicle stops with the
brake pedal pressed.
This condition can be maintained even if the brake
pedal is not depressed, if the gear lever is in position
N.
NoteThe engine can only be stopped automatically
after a speed of about 10 km/h is reached, to prevent
the engine from being repeatedly stopped when
driving at walking pace.
The engine being stopped is signalled by the icon
fig. 95 on the display, depending on the trim level.

during the first period of use, to initialize the
system.
In the above cases the warning light fig. 95 flashes
and, where provided, an information message is
displayed.
RESTARTING CONDITIONS
For reasons of comfort, limiting pollutant emissions
and safety purposes, the power unit can restart
automatically without any action on behalf of the
driver if certain conditions are met, including:
battery not sufficiently charged;
reduced braking system vacuum, e.g. following the
brake pedal being pressed repeatedly;
vehicle in motion, for example when driving on
hilly roads;
stopping the engine through the Start&Stop
system for more than about three minutes.
automatic climate control system for adjusting the
thermal comfort level or to enable MAX-DEF
function. With a gear engaged, the engine can only
be automatically restarted by fully depressing the
clutch pedal. The driver is asked to perform this
operation through the warning light fig. 95 flashing in
the instrument panel and, where provided, the
message in the display.
NoteIf the clutch is not pressed, when the three
minutes have elapsed since the engine was stopped,
the engine can be restarted only by using the key.NoteIn cases when the engine stops and this is not
desired, due for example to the clutch pedal being
released sharply with a gear engaged, if the
Start&Stop system is active, the engine can be
restarted by fully depressing the clutch pedal or by
placing the gear lever in neutral.
SAFETY FUNCTIONS
In engine cut-out conditions through the Start&Stop
system, if the driver unfastens his/her seat belt and
opens the driver or the passenger door, the engine
can only be restarted using the key. The driver is
notified of this condition both by a buzzer and the
flashing of the fig. 95 warning light on the instrument
panel and, where provided, an information message
on the display.
"ENERGY SAVING" FUNCTION
(for versions/markets, where provided)
If, as a result of automatic engine restarting, the
driver does not carry out any action on the vehicle
for an extended period (about 3 minutes), the
Start&Stop system stops the engine definitively, to
prevent fuel consumption. The engine can only
be started using the key in such cases.
NoteIn any case, it is possible to keep the engine
running by deactivating the Start&Stop system.

IMPORTANT
WARNING
Before opening the bonnet , make sure
that the vehicle is switched off and
the key is in the OFF position. Follow the
instructions on the label on the front
crossmember. It is advisable to extract the key
when there are other people in the vehicle.
WARNING
The vehicle should always be evacuated
after the key has been removed or
turned to the OFF position.When refuelling,
make sure that the car is switched off with the
key in the OFF position.
WARNING
For vehicles with robotised gearbox, in
the event of automatic engine stopping
with the car on a slope, the engine should be
restarted by moving the gear lever towards (+)
or (-) without releasing the brake pedal. For
vehicles with robotised gearbox and Hill Holder
function, in the event of automatic engine
stopping with the car on a slope, the engine
must be restarted by moving the gear lever
towards (+) or (-) without releasing the brake
pedal, so that the Hill Holder function, active
only with the engine running, becomes
available.
WARNING
If climate comfort is to be favoured, the
Star t&Stop system can be disabled,
for a continuous operation of the climate
control system.

REFUELLING THE VEHICLE
PETROL ENGINES
Use unleaded petrol only, with octane number
(R.O.N.) not lower than 95.
IMPORTANT For the correct operation of the
engine, exclusively use metallic additive free fuels,
that can be recognised by the description “Metallic
Additive Free”. Furthermore, using even small
quantities of fuels with metallic additives, which can
be recognised by the description “Containing
metallic additive”, can irreparably damage the
catalytic converter.
IMPORTANT An inefficient catalytic converter leads
to harmful exhaust emissions, thus contributing to
air pollution.
IMPORTANT Never use leaded petrol, even in small
amounts or in an emergency, as this would damage
the catalytic converter beyond repair.
DIESEL ENGINES
Operation at low temperatures
If the outside temperature is very low, the diesel
thickens due to the formation of paraffin clots with
consequent defective operation of the fuel supply
system.
In order to avoid these problems, different types of
diesel are distributed according to the season:summer type, winter type and arctic type
(cold/mountain areas). If refuelling with diesel fuel
whose specifications are not suitable for the usage
temperature, it is advisable to mix TUTELA DIESEL
ART additive in the proportions shown on the
container with the fuel. Pour the additive into the
tank before the fuel.
When using or parking the vehicle for a long time in
the mountains or cold areas, it is advisable to refuel
using locally available diesel.
In this case, it is also advisable to keep the tank over
50% full.
For diesel engines, use only diesel fuel for
motor vehicles in accordance with EN590
European specifications.The use of other
products or mixtures may damage the engine
beyond repair and consequently invalidate the
warranty, due to the damage caused. If you
accidentally introduce other types of fuel into the
tank, do not start the engine. Empty the tank. If
the engine has been run for even an extremely
limited amount of time, you must not only drain
the fuel tank, but the rest of the supply circuit
as well.

REFUELLING CAPACITY
To fill the tank completely, top up twice after the
first click of the trigger. Further top-ups could cause
faults in the fuel feeding system.
FUEL FILLER CAP
Opening
1) Open the flap A fig. 102 by pulling it outwards,
keep the cap B fig. 102 still, insert the ignition key in
the lock and turn it anticlockwise.
2) Turn the cap anticlockwise and remove it.
The cap has a device C fig. 102 that attaches it to the
flap so it cannot be lost. When refilling, attach the
cap to the flap, as illustrated.
Closing
1) Fit the cap (complete with key) and turn it
clockwise until it clicks once or more.2) Turn the key clockwise and extract it, then close
the flap.
The hermetic seal may cause a slight increase in
pressure in the tank. A suction noise when you
release the cap is therefore entirely normal.
Do not place naked flames or lit
cigarettes near to the fuel filler: fire risk.
Keep your face away from the fuel filler
to prevent breathing in harmful vapours.
