Battery Charge Warning Light
This light illuminates when the battery is not charging properly. If it stays on while the
engine is running, there may be a malfunction with the charging system. Contact your
authorized dealer as soon as possible. This indicates a possible problem with the electri-
cal system or a related component.
If jump starting is required, refer to “Jump Starting Procedures” in “What To Do In
Emergencies.”
Electronic Throttle Control (ETC) Warning Light

Electronic Throttle Control (ETC) Warning Light
This light informs you of a problem with the Electronic Throttle Control (ETC) system.
If a problem is detected while the engine is running, the light will either stay on or flash
depending on the nature of the problem. Cycle the ignition key when the vehicle is
safely and completely stopped and the transmission is placed in the PARK position. The
light should turn off. If the light remains on with the engine running, your vehicle will
usually be drivable; however, see an authorized dealer for service as soon as possible.
If the light continues to flash when the engine is running, immediate service is required
and you may experience reduced performance, an elevated/rough idle, or engine stall
and your vehicle may require towing. The light will come on when the ignition is first
turned to ON/RUN and remain on briefly as a bulb check. If the light does not come on
during starting, have the system checked by an authorized dealer.

Cold Weather Operation
To prevent possible engine damage while starting at low
temperatures, this vehicle will inhibit engine cranking
when the ambient temperature is less than –22° F (–30° C)
and the oil temperature sensor reading indicates an engine
block heater has not been used. An externally-powered
electric engine block heater is available as optional equip-
ment or from your authorized dealer.
The message “plug in engine heater” will be displayed
in the instrument cluster when the ambient temperature
is below 5° F (–15° C) at the time the engine is shut off
as a reminder to avoid possible crank delays at the next
cold start.
CAUTION!
Use of the recommended SAE 5W-40 synthetic
engine oil and adhering to the prescribed oil change
intervals is important to prevent engine damage
and ensure satisfactory starting in cold conditions.
Extended Park Starting
NOTE:Extended Park condition occurs when the ve-
hicle has not been started or driven for at least 30 days.
1. Install a battery charger or jumper cables to the battery to ensure a full battery charge during the
crank cycle.
2. Cycle the ignition in the START position and release it when the engine starts.
3. If the engine fails to start within 10 to 15 seconds, cycle the ignition to the STOP (OFF/LOCK) position,
wait five seconds to allow the starter to cool, then
repeat the Extended Park Starting procedure.
4. If the engine fails to start after eight attempts, allow the starter to cool for at least 10 minutes, then repeat
the procedure.
CAUTION!
To prevent damage to the starter, do not crank
continuously for more than 10 seconds at a time.
Wait 10 to 15 seconds before trying again.

JUMP-STARTING PROCEDURE
If your vehicle has a discharged battery, it can be
jump-started using a set of jumper cables and a battery
in another vehicle or by using a portable battery booster
pack. Jump-starting can be dangerous if done improp-
erly so please follow the procedures in this section
carefully.
NOTE:When using a portable battery booster pack,
follow the manufacturer ’s operating instructions and
precautions.
WARNING!
Do not attempt jump-starting if the battery is fro-
zen. It could rupture or explode and cause personal
injury.
CAUTION!
Do not use a portable battery booster pack or any
other booster source with a system voltage greater
than 12 Volts or damage to the battery, starter motor,
alternator or electrical system may occur.
Preparations For Jump-Start
The battery in your vehicle is located on the left side of
the engine compartment.

WARNING!
•Take care to avoid the radiator cooling fan when-
ever the hood is raised. It can start anytime the
ignition switch is ON. You can be injured by
moving fan blades.
• Remove any metal jewelry such as rings, watch
bands and bracelets that could make an inadver-
tent electrical contact. You could be seriously
injured.
• Batteries contain sulfuric acid that can burn your
skin or eyes and generate hydrogen gas which is
flammable and explosive. Keep open flames or
sparks away from the battery.
1. Set the parking brake, shift the transmission into gear and turn the ignition to OFF/LOCK.
2. Turn off the heater, radio, and all unnecessary elec- trical accessories.
3. Remove the protective cover over the positive (+) battery post. To remove the cover pull upward on the
cover. 4. If using another vehicle to jump-start the battery,
park the vehicle within the jumper cables reach, set
the parking brake and make sure the ignition is OFF.

Do not allow vehicles to touch each other as this
could establish a ground connection and personal
injury could result.

damage to the charging system of the booster ve-
hicle or the discharged vehicle.

Connecting The Jumper Cables
1. Connect the positive(+)end of the jumper cable to
the positive (+)post of the discharged vehicle.
2. Connect the opposite end of the positive (+)jumper
cable to the positive (+)post of the booster battery.
3. Connect the negative end (-)of the jumper cable to
the negative (-)post of the booster battery.
4. Connect the opposite end of the negative (-)jumper
cable to a good engine ground (exposed metal part of
the discharged vehicle underhood compartment)
away from the battery.
WARNING!
Do not connect the jumper cable to the negative (-)
post of the discharged battery. The resulting elec-
trical spark could cause the battery to explode and
could result in personal injury. Only use the spe-
cific ground point, do not use any other exposed
metal parts. 5. Start the engine in the vehicle that has the booster
battery, let the engine idle a few minutes, and then
turn the key to RUN position on the vehicle with the
discharged battery.
6. Once the vehicle is started, remove the jumper cables in the reverse sequence:
Disconnecting The Jumper Cables
1. Disconnect the negative (-)jumper cable from the
engine ground (-)of the vehicle with the discharged
battery.
2. Disconnect the negative end (-)of the jumper cable
from the negative (-)post of the booster battery.
3. Disconnect the opposite end of the positive (+)
jumper cable from the positive (+)post of the booster
battery.
4. Disconnect the positive (+)end of the jumper cable
from the positive (+)post of the discharged vehicle.
If frequent jump-starting is required to start your ve-
hicle, you should have the battery and charging system
inspected at your authorized dealer.

WARNING!
The air induction system (air cleaner, hoses, etc.)
can provide a measure of protection in the case of
engine backfire. Do not remove the air induction
system (air cleaner, hoses, etc.) unless such removal
is necessary for repair or maintenance. Make sure
that no one is near the engine compartment before
starting the vehicle with the air induction system
(air cleaner, hoses, etc.) removed. Failure to do so
can result in serious personal injury.
Engine Air Cleaner Filter Selection
The quality of replacement engine air cleaner filters varies
considerably. Only high quality filters should be used to
assure most efficient service. MOPAR engine air cleaner
filters are a high quality filter and are recommended.
Maintenance-Free Battery
Your vehicle is equipped with a maintenance-free bat-
tery. You will never have to add water, nor is periodic
maintenance required.
WARNING!
•Battery fluid is a corrosive acid solution and can
burn or even blind you. Do not allow battery
fluid to contact your eyes, skin, or clothing. Do
not lean over a battery when attaching clamps. If
acid splashes in eyes or on skin, flush the area
immediately with large amounts of water. Refer
to “Jump-Starting Procedures” in “What To Do In
Emergencies” for further information.
• Battery gas is flammable and explosive. Keep
flame or sparks away from the battery. Do not use
a booster battery or any other booster source with
an output greater than 12 Volts. Do not allow
cable clamps to touch each other.
• Battery posts, terminals, and related accessories
contain lead and lead compounds. Wash hands
after handling.
• The battery in this vehicle has a vent hose that
should not be disconnected and should only be
replaced with a battery of the same type (vented).
