Windshield wiper service position/blade
replacement position
• To bring the wipers into the service position ,
turn the ignition off and move the windshield
wiper lever into position @~
page 56, fig. 55.
• To bring the wipers into the starting position,
switch the ignition on and move the windshield
wiper lever into position @~
page 56, fig. 55
for at least two seconds .
You can also turn the service position on or off in
the Infotainment system :
• Switch the windshield wipers off (position @
~page 56, fig. 55).
• Select : th e IMENU i button> Vehicle> left con­
trol button >
Service & checks > Wiper change
position .
Removing the wiper blade
• Fold the windshield wiper arm away from the
windshield.
• Press the locking knob
(D ~ fig. 56 on the wiper
blade . Hold the wiper blade firmly.
• Remove the wiper blade in the direction of the
arrow .
Installing the wiper blade
• Insert the new wiper blade into the mount on
the wipe r arm @until it clicks into place.
• Place the wiper arm back on the windshield.
• Turn the service position off.
A WARNING
For safety reasons, the wiper blades should
be replaced once or twice each year .

-Only fold the windshield wipers away when
they are in the service position. Otherwise,
you could damage the paint on the hood or
the windshield wiper motor.
- You should not move your vehicle or operate the windshield wiper lever when the wiper
arms are folded away from the windshield.
The windshield wipers would move back in­
to their original position and could damage
the hood and windshield.
- To help prevent damage to the wiper sys­
tem, always loosen blades which are frozen
to the windshield before operating the wip­
ers.
- To help prevent damage to the wiper
blades, do not use gasoline, kerosene, paint
thinner, or other solvents on or near the
wiper blades.
- To help prevent damage to the wiper arms
or other components, do not attempt to
move the wipers by hand.
{l) Tips
-You can also use the service position, for ex­
ample, if you want to protect the windshield
from icing by using a cover.
- You cannot activate the service position
when the hood is open.

(EPA) and Transport Canada may not corre­
spond to your actual consumption on the
road, which will vary depending upon vehicle
load and speed, road and weather conditions,
trip length, etc.
Steering
Adjusting the steering wheel position
The steering wheel position is adjustable up and
down and forward and back .

Driving
.. Push the lever against the steering column un­
til it is secure.
A WARNING
Incorrect use of the steering wheel adjust­ ment and an incorrect seating position can
cause serious injuries.

- Only adjust the steering column when the
vehicle is stationary so that you do not lose
control of the vehicle.
- Adjust the driver's seat or steering wheel so
that there is at least a 10 in (25 cm) dis­
tance between your chest and the steering
wheel. If you do not maintain this distance
I
you will not be properly protected by the air­
bag system.
- If your physical characteristics prevent you
from sitting at least 10 in (25 cm) or more
away from the steering wheel, see if your
authorized Audi dealer or authorized Audi
Service Facility can provide adapters that
will help.
- If your face is level with the steering wheel,
the airbag does not provide as much protec­
tion during a collision. Always make sure that the steering wheel is level with your
chest.
- Always hold the steering wheel with your
hands in the 9 o'clock and 3 o'clock posi­
tions to reduce the risk of injury if the airbag
deploys.
- Never hold the steering wheel in the 12
o'clock position or with both hands on the
rim or the center of the steering wheel.
Holding the steering wheel incorrectly sig­
nificantly increases the risk of injury to the
hands, arms and head if the airbag deploys.

Driving Starting the engine when there is a
malfunction
It may not be possible to start the engine under certain circumstances, for example if the battery
in the vehicle key is drained, if interference is af­
fected the key or if there is a system malfunc­
tion.

Start/Stop system
Description

The Start/Stop system can help increase fuel
economy and reduce CO2 emissions.
l ) Market -spe cific

In Start/Stop mode, the engine shuts off auto ­
matically when the vehicle is stopped, such as at
a traffic light. The ignition remains switched on
during this stop phase. The engine will restart automatically when needed.
The Start/Stop system is automatically activated as soon as the ignition is switched on.
Basic requirements for Start/Stop mode
-The driver's door must be closed.
- The driver 's seat belt much be fastened.
- The hood must be closed .
- The vehicle must have driven faster than
2 mph
(3 km/h) since the last time it stopped .
- A trailer must not be hitched to the vehicle .
If you leave the vehicle during a stop phase, the
engine can be restarted within approximately 30
seconds if the following requirements are met:
- The driver's door must be closed , the driver
must be wearing the safety belt and the brake
pedal must be pressed . Or:
- The driver's door must be closed, the brake
pedal must be pressed and a gear must be se­
lected.

Electromechanical
parking brake
Operating
The electromechanical parking brake replaces
the hand brake.

"'To release the parking brake, press the brake or
accelerator pedal while the ignition is switched
on and press the button at the same time(®).
The LED in the button and the indicator light in
the display turn off.
Your vehicle is equipped with an electromechani­
cal parking brake . The parking brake is designed
to prevent the vehicle from rolling unintentional­
l y and replaces the hand brake .
In addition to the normal functions of a tradi­
tional hand brake, the electromechanical parking brake provides various convenience and safety
functions .
Emerg enc y braking function

-
- Do not press the acce lerator pedal inadver-
tently when the vehicle is stationary, the en­
gine is running and a gear is selected. Oth­
erwise, the vehicle will start to move imme­
diate ly and this could result in an accident .
- If the power supply fails, you cannot set the
parking brake if it is released . In this case,
park the veh icle on leve l ground and secure
it by p lac ing the selector leve r in the P posi­
tion. See an authorized A udi dealer or au ­
thorized A udi Se rvice Fa cil ity for assis tance.
(D Tips
- Occasional noises when the parking brake is
set and released are normal and are not a
cause fo r concern.
- The pa rking brake goes through a self-test
cy cle at regu lar inte rvals when the vehicle is
stopped . Any no ises asso ciated wi th th is are
normal.
- If there is a powe r failure, the parki ng brake
canno t be set if it is rele ased, and i t will not
re lease if it is set ~& . See an a uthorized
Audi dealer or authorized Audi Service Fa­
cility for assistance.
- If the parking brake is malfunctioning, the
LED in the
C® button blinks . It may not be
possible to set the parking brake . If the
park ing brake is set, use the hill start assist
to release it

is running in emergency mode.
Kick-down
Kick-down enables maximum acceleration.
When you press the accelerator pedal down be­
yond the resistance point, the automatic trans­
mission shifts down into a lower gear and the en­
gine utilizes its full power, depending on vehicle
speed and engine RPM. It shifts up into the next
higher gear once the maximum specified engine
RPM is reached .
A WARNING
Please note that the wheels could spin on
slick or slippery roads when kick-down is ac­
tive.
Launch control program
The launch control program provides the best
possible acceleration when starting from a stop.
Requirement: The engine must be at operating
temperature and the steering wheel must not be
turned .

Driving
A WARNING
-Always adapt your driving to the traffic flow.
- Only use the Launch control program when
road and traffic conditions allow it and oth­
er drivers will not be endangered or both­
ered by your driving and the vehicle's accel­
eration.
- Please note that the drive wheels can spin
and the vehicle can break away when sport
mode is switched on, especially when the
road is slippery.
- Once the vehicle has started moving, press
the
1 .$ OFFI button briefly to turn the sport
mode off.
(D Tips
- The transmission temperature may increase
significantly after using the launch control
program. If that happens, the program may
not be available for a few minutes. It will be
available again after a cool-down period.
- When accelerating using the launch control
program, all vehicle parts are subject to
heavy loads. This can lead to increased
wear.
Transmission malfunction

In curves

When driving into a curve<=> fig. 91 and ou t of a
curve, the adaptive cruise control may react to a
veh icle in the neighboring lane and apply the
brakes . You can prevent that by pressing the ac­
celerator pedal b rief ly.
Stationary vehicles

Adaptive cruise control can react to a limited ex­
tent to stationary vehicles

low . For example, if a vehicle that was already
detected @turns or changes lanes, the adaptive

Indicator lights and messages in the instrument
cluster display inform you about the cu rrent sit­
uation and setting .
An add itional indicator appears in the Head-up

Setting the distance

.. To increase or reduce the distance in incre­
ments, tap the switch upward/downward
again . The distance between the two vehicles
will change in the instrument cluster display.
When approaching a veh icle driving ahead, the
adapt ive cruise control system brakes to match
that vehicle's speed and then adjusts to the set
d istance. If the vehicle driv ing ahead accelerates,
then the adaptive cruise cont rol w ill also acceler­
ate up to the speed that you have set.
Assist
The higher the speed, the greater the distance
c:> &. The Distance 3 setting is recommended.
That is equal to the general recommendation of "ha lf the speed shown on the speedometer" .
T he distances provided are specified values. De­
pending on the driving situation and how the ve­
hicle ahead is driving, the actual distance may be
more or less than these target distances.
If you change the time gaps, the newly set value
appears brief ly in the instrument cluster display
II for example for Distance 3. This only occurs if
Driver assist is current ly not shown in the display
c:> page 98, fig. 94 .
Distance 1: this setting corresponds to a distance
of 92 feet (28 meters) when traveling at 62 mph
(100 km/h), or a time distance of 1 second .
Distance 2: this setting corresponds to a distance
of 118 feet (36 meters) when traveling at 62
mph (100 km/h), or a time distance of 1.3 sec­
onds.
Distance 3: this setting corresponds to a distance
of 164 feet (SO meters) when traveling at 62
mph (100 km/h), or a time distance of 1.8 sec­
onds.
Distance 4: this setting corresponds to a distance
of 210 feet (64 meters) when traveling at 62
mph (100 km/h), or a time distance of 2 .4 sec­
onds.
Distance 5: this setting corresponds to a distance
of 328 feet (100 meters) when traveling at 62
mph (100 km/h), or a time distance of 3 .6 sec­
onds.
A WARNING
-When setting the distance, the driver is re-
sponsible for adheri ng to any applicable legal
regulations.

- Distance
3 is set automatically each time
you switch the ignition on. If you would like
to set another distance as the standard set­
ting, you can have the
Adaptive cruise con­
trol
menu enabled by an authorized Audi
