-Depending on vehicle equipment, the in ­
str ument ill umination (need les and gauges)
may tu rn on when the lights are off and the
i gnition is sw itched on. The illumination for
the gauges reduces automat ically and even­
tua lly turns off as brightness outside in­
creases. This function reminds the driver to
turn the low beams on at the app ropr iate
time.

Coolant temperature indicator
The coolant temperatu re display (D ¢ page 10,
fig. 4 or ¢ page 10, fig . 3 only funct ions when
the ignition is switched on . To prevent engine
damage, please observe the following notes
about the temperature ranges.
Cold range
If onl y the L EDs at the bottom o f th e ga uge turn
on, the engine has not reached operating tem­ pe rature yet. Avoid high engine speeds, full ac ­
cele rat ing and heavy engine loads.
Normal range
The engine h as reached its oper ating temper a­
ture once the LEDs up to the center o f the ga uge
turn on. If
the . indicator lig ht in the instru-
~ ment cluster display turns on, the coolant tern-
~ perature is too high ¢ page 28 .

-Auxi liary headlights and other accessories in
front of the coo ling-air intake impai r the
cooling effect of the coolant. This increases
the risk of the engine overheating dur ing
hig h outside temperatures and heavy en­
gine load .
-The front spoiler a lso helps to distribute
cooling air correctly while driving. If the
spoiler is damaged, the coo ling effect will
be impaired and the r is k of the eng ine ove r­
heating wi ll increase. See an autho rized
Audi dea ler or author ized Audi Service Fa ­
ci lity for assis tan ce .
-Vehicles without a coolant temperature dis­
play: to promote a long engine service li fe,
avoidin g high engine speeds, full accelera­
tion and heavy engine loads during approx i­
mately the first 15 minutes when the en ­
gine is cold is recommended. The amount of
time that the eng ine is cold depends on the
outside temperature .

T he high beam assistant automatically turns the
high beams on or off depending on the surround­
ing conditions .
A camera on the rearv iew mirror mount can de­
tect light sources from other road users . The high
beams switch on or off automatically depending
on the posit ion of vehicles d riving ahead and on­
com ing vehicles , the veh icle speed as well as oth­
er environmenta l facto rs and traffic condit ions.
Activ ating high b eam assistant
Requirement: the light sw itch must be set to AU ­
TO, the low beams must be sw itched on, and the
high beam assistant must be sw itched on in the
Infotai nment
system ~ page 53.
~ To activate the high beam ass istant, press the
leverforward @~page52, fig . 51. The il or
ti1 indicator light appears in the i nstr ument
cl uste r display and the high beams are sw itch­
ed on or off autom atically. The

the drive r. The dr iver is still responsible for
con troll ing the headlights and may need to
switch t hem on and off manually depending
on light and visibility conditions . It may be
necessaty to operate them manua lly in s itua ­
tions such as:
- In adverse weather conditions such as fog,
heavy rain, b low ing snow or spraying water.
- On roads where oncoming traffic may be partially obscu red, such as expressways .
-If there are road users with poor lighting,
such as bicyclists .
- In tight c urves and on s teep hills.
- In poorly lit areas.
- With strong reflecto rs, such as s igns.
- If the area of the windsh ield near the sensor
is fogged over, dirty, icy or covered with a
st icker.

Move the windshield wiper lever to the corre­
sponding position:

(D -Interva l mode. To increase/decrease the w ip­
er intervals, move the switch
@ to the left/right.
In vehicles with a rain sensor, the wipers turn on
in the rain once the vehicle speed exceeds ap­
proximately 2 mph (4 km/h). The higher the sen­
sitivity of the rain sensor is set (switch @to the
right), the earlier the windshield wipers react to
mo isture on the windshield . You can deact ivate
the ra in sensor mode in the Infotainment sys­
tem, which switches the intermittent mode on.
To do th is, select:

@ -Single wipe . If you ho ld the lever in this posi­
t ion longer, the wipers switch from slow wip ing
to fast wiping .
®-Clean the windshield To eliminate water
droplets, the w indshield wipers perform one af­
terw ipe after several seconds while dr iv ing in
temperatures above 39 °F (4 °C) . You can switch
th is function off by moving the lever to posit ion
@ with in 10 seconds of the afterw ipe . The after­
wipe function is reac tivated the next time you
switch the ignition on.
Clean the headlights. The headlig ht washe r sys­
tem operates only when the low beam headlights
are on . If you move the lever in
posi tion @, the
headlig hts will be cleaned in fixed intervals .
Applies to: vehicles wi th re ar w indow wiper
@ -Wipe the rear window. The rear w iper moves
abo ut eve ry 6 seconds.
The rear wiper automatically switches on when
the reverse gear is selected and the front wind­
shield wipe rs a re on and running.
(J) -Clean the rear w indow . The number of wipes
depends on how long the lever is held in pos ition
(f) .
_& WARNING
-The rain sensor* is only in tended to assist
the dr iver. The driver may still be responsi­
b le for manually switching the wipers on
based on visibility conditions.
- The windsh ield may not be t reated w ith wa­
ter -repelling w indshield coating agen ts . Un­
favorable conditions, such as wetness, dark­
ness, and when the sun is low, can cause in­
creased glare, wh ich increases the risk of an
accident. Wiper blade chatter is also possi­ ble.
- Properly functioning windshield wiper

Starting/driving the vehicle

The vehicle is started and stopped with the
I START STOP I button. Please also read the in ­
formation under
c::> page 78, Starting the engine .
Establishing drive ready mode
See c::> A in Introduction on page 94.
Requirement: a charging cable must not be con­
nected to the vehicle
c::> page 117 and the selec­
tor lever must be in the P or N position.
- Press the brake pedal.
- Press the
I STAR T STOPI button .
When the vehicle enters drive ready mode, the
status message
e-tron READY appears briefly in
the instrument cluster display and the needle in
the power meter points to
READY c::> page 97.
Driving
The vehicle starts with the electric motor after
establishing the dr ive ready mode and if the con­
ditions for electric drive mode have been met
c::> page 100.
The conditions to drive are essentially the same
as for the automatic transmission
c::> page 85 .
You and your passengers should anticipate the
possibility of a sporty acce leration.
Ending drive ready mode
- Place the selector lever in the P position.
- Switch the ignition off with the
I STAR T STOPI
button.
Vehicle sound
The vehicle generates an electronic engine sound
so that your vehicle can be heard from the out­
side when in electr ic drive mode. The veh icle
sound automatically fades out at higher speeds
when the sounds from the tires and wind start in­
creasing.

Switching the ignition on/off
You can switch the ignition on without establish­
ing drive ready mode.
- Press the
I START STOP ! button to switch the
ign ition on and off. Do not press the brake ped­
al whi le doing this.
When the ignition is sw itched on, the needle
points at
OFF @c::>page 97, fig. 103 or OFF is
displayed @c::>page97, fig .103.
No indicator lights stay turned on when the igni ­
tion is switched off .
Ignition is switched off automatically
To prevent the vehicle battery from draining, the
ignition will switch off automatically under the
follow ing cond it ions:
- The vehicle must have already been driven.
- The vehicle is stationary.
- The gasoline engine must not be runn ing .
- The driver's door must be open.
- The driver's safety belt must be unbuckled .
- The brake pedal must not be pressed.
In this case, the activated low beam is replaced
by the parking light. The message

ter approx imately 30 minutes or when you lock

If the gasoline engine was not stopped, the mo­
