Messages in the instrument cluster display
If the active lane assist sw itches off automatical­
ly , the indicator light in the display turns off and
one of the follo wing messages appears:
rl1 Audi active lane assist: currently unavaila­
ble . Camera view restricted due to surround­
ings. See owner's manual
This message appears if the camera is unable to
detect the lines. This could happen if:
- The camera window
¢page 113, fig. 106 is
dirty or covered in ice. Clean this area on the
windshield
r:::> page 337 .
-The camera fie ld of view is fogged over. Wait
until the fog has cleared before switching the
active lane assist on aga in.

What you should know
Maintaining the starting ability is the highest
priority.
A lot of stress is placed on the battery when driv­
ing short distances, in traffic, and at cold times
of the year . A lot of energy is used but little is
generated. It is also critical when the engine is not runn ing but elect rical equipment is switched
on. I n this case, ene rgy is used but none is gener­
ated.
In s ituations l ike this, energy management will
actively regu late the distribution of ene rgy.
Long pe riods without use
If you do not drive your vehicle for several days or
weeks, e lectrical equipment is gradually scaled
back or switched off . This reduces energy use and
ensu res the veh icle w ill be able to start afte r long
pe riods of time. Some convenie nce functions,
such a s in te rior lighting or powe r seat adjust­
men t, may not be available under certa in c ircu m­
stances . These convenience functions will be
ava ilable again once you switch the ign ition on
and start the engine .
With the engine switched off
The ba tte ry will d rai n if you use Infota inment
functions s uch as listen ing to the rad io whi le the
engine is switched off .
I f t he vehi cle's ability to start may be impaired by
the energy use, a mess age will appear in the In­
fotainment system disp lay . The message indi ­
cates that the system will sw itch off automatica l­
l y soon . If you would like to continue using the
f u nctions, yo u m ust start the eng ine.
With the engine running
A lthough elec trical energy is gene ra ted wh ile
d riving, the ba ttery can drain . This can happen
when little energy is generated, and m uch is used
and the charge leve l of the battery is not optima l.
To restore the ba lance o f energy, components
that requ ire large amo unts of energy a re tempo­
rari ly sca led back or switched off. Heating sys­
tems in particu lar require a great deal of energy .
If you notice, for example, that the seat heating *
Intelligent Technology
or rear window defogger is not work ing, t hen it
has been temporarily limited o r switched off.
These systems are availab le aga in as soon as the
energy supply has been restored .
In add ition, yo u may notice tha t the idle speed
has slig htly increased. That is normal and no
ca use for concern . Due to the increased id ling
speed, the additional required energy will be generated and the battery will be charged .

E v ent Data R eco rder
This vehicle is eq uipped with an Event Data Re ­
corder ( EDR) . The ma in purpose of an EDR is to
record, in certain crash or near crash-like situa­
t ions, such as an airbag deployme nt or hitt ing a
road obstacle, data that w ill ass ist in understand­
ing how a vehicle 's systems performed . T he EDR
is des igned to record data related to vehicle dy­
nam ics and safety systems for a short per io d of
t ime, typ ic all y 30 seconds or less . T he ED R in this
vehicle is designed to record such data as:
- How va rious systems in your vehicle were oper ­
ating;
- Whethe r or not the d rive r and passenger safety
be lts were buckled/fas tened;
- How far (if at all) the driver was depressing the
accelerator and/or bra ke pedal; a nd ,
- How fast the vehicle was traveling .
These data can help p rovide a bette r understand­
ing of the circumstances in w hich crashes and in­
juries occur . NOTE: EDR data are recorded by your
vehicle on ly if a non-tr ivial crash situation occurs ;
no data are reco rded by the EDR un der no rmal
driv ing cond itions and no persona l da ta (e.g.,
name, ge nder, age, and cr ash location) are re­
corded. However, ot her parties, such as law en ­
forcement, co uld combine the EDR data with the
type of perso nally identifying data routinely ac­
quired d uring a crash investigation .
T o read d ata recorded by an EDR, special eq uip­
ment is required, and access to the vehicle or the ..,.

A WARNING
- Brake fluid is poisonous. It must be stored
only in the closed orig inal container out of
the reach of chi ldren!
- B rake failure can resu lt from old or inappro­
pr iate brake flu id. Observe these precau­
t ions:
- Use on ly brake fluid that mee ts SA E speci ­
fi cation) 17 0 3 and confo rms to Fede ral
Motor Ve hicle Standard 116. Always check
wit h your authorized Audi dealer to make
sure you are using the correct brake fluid.
The cor rect type o f brake fluid is a lso indi­
cated on the brake fluid reservoir.
- The brake fluid must be new. Heavy use of
the brakes can cause a vapor lock if the
brake flu id is left in the system too long.
This ca n ser iously affect t he efficiency of
the bra kes as well as your safety. This
could result in an acc ident.

Brake fluid w ill damage the pa int of yo ur vehi­
cle.
@ For the sake of the environment
Because of the prob lem of proper disposal of
brake flu id as we ll as the special tools re­
quired and the necessary expertise, we rec­
ommend tha t you have the brake fluid
changed by your author ized Audi d ealer.
Battery
General information
Unde r normal operating conditions, the battery
i n your Audi does not need any maintenance.
W ith
high outs ide temperat ures o r long da ily
d rives we recommend that you have the electro­
lyte leve l checked by an a uth orized Audi dea le r or
qua lified wor kshop. The e lectroly te leve l should
a lso be checked each time the batte ry is ch a rged
¢ page 314.

Have t he battery chec ke d when yo u take yo ur ve ­
hicle in for service . You are we ll advised to re­
place a battery that is o lder than 5 yea rs .
With ce rta in types o f airbag deployment, t he
b atte ry is disconnected from the veh icle elect ri­
ca l system for safety reasons ¢.&

Disconnecting the battery terminals
Some ve hicl e fu nctions (power window regula ­
tors, for examp le) are lost if the batte ry te rm i­
nals a re disconnected . These f unc tions have to be
relearned after the battery term inals are con­
nected again . To p revent this, the battery should
o nl y be disconnected from the vehicle electrical
system when absolute ly necessary for repairs.
Vehicles not driven for long periods
If you do not d rive yo ur vehicle ove r a period of
severa l days o r weeks, electr ica l components are
grad ua lly cut back or switched of f. T his reduces
energy consumpt ion and maintains start ing ca­
pability over a longer period ¢
page 138.
Some of the convenience functions may not oper­
ate, such as the inter ior lights or the power seat
adjustment . The convenience functions will be
available again w hen you turn on the ignit io n and
start the eng ine .
Winter operation
Dur ing the winte r months, battery capacity tends
to decrease as tempe ratures drop. This is be ­
ca use more power is also consumed while start­
i ng, and t he headlights, rear w indow defogger,
etc ., are used more often.
Avo id unnecessary powe r consumption, partic u­
l a rly in city traffic or when traveling o nly short
distances . Let your author ized Audi dealer check
the capacity of the vehicle battery before win ter
sets in ¢
page 314 . A well charged battery will
n ot only p reve nt sta rting prob lems when the
we ather is co ld , but will also last longer.

avoid scratches, move the scraper only in
one direction and not back and forth.
- Never remove snow or ice from door win­
dows and mirrors using warm or hot water
because this could cause cracks to form.
- To avoid damage to the rear window de­
fogger, do not apply any stickers on the
heating wires on the inside of the window.
- Decorative part .s/trim
- Never use chrome care or cleaning prod-
ucts .
- Paint
- To reduce the risk of scratches, the vehicle
must be free of dirt and dust before pol­
ishing or waxing .
- To prevent paint damage, do not polish or
wax the vehicle in direct sunlight .
- To reduce the risk of paint damage, do not
polish away rust spots.
- Remove cosmetics and sunscreen immedi­
ately- these could damage the paint.
- Displays/instrument cluster
- The displays/instrument cluster and the
trim surrounding them must not be
cleaned with dry cleaning methods be­
cause they could be scratched.
- Make sure that the instrument cluster is
switched off and has cooled off before
cleaning it.
- Make sure no fluids enter the spaces be­
tween the instrument cluster and the
trim, because that could cause damage.
- Controls
- Make sure that no fluids enter the con-
trols, because this could cause damage.
- Safety belts
- Do not remove the safety belts to clean
them.
- Never clean safety belts or their compo­
nents chemically or with corrosive fluids
or solvents and never allow sharp objects
to come into contact with the safety belts.
This could cause damage to the belt web­ bing.
- If there is damage to the webbing, the
connections, the retractors or the buckles,

have them replaced by an authorized Audi
dealer or authorized Audi Service Facility.
- Textiles/artificial leather/ Alcantara
- Never treat artificial leather/Alcantara
with leather care products, solvents, floor
polish, shoe polish, spot remove or similar
products.
- Have a specialist remove stubborn stains
to prevent damage.
- Never use steam cleaners, brushes, hard
sponges, etc . when cleaning.
- Do not turn on the seat heating* to dry the
seat .
- Objects with sharp edges, such as zippers
or rivets on clothing or belts, can cause
damage to the surface.
- Open hook and loop fasteners, for exam­
ple on clothing, can damage seat covers .
Make sure hook and loop fasteners are
closed .
- Natural leather
- Never treat leather with solvents, floor
polish, shoe polish, spot remover or simi­
lar products.
- Objects with sharp edges, such as zippers
or rivets on clothing or belts, can cause
damage to the surface .
- Never use steam cleaners, brushes, hard

- To help prevent the leather from fading,
do not leave the vehicle in direct sunlight
for long periods of time. If leaving the ve­
hicle parked for long periods of time, you
should cover the leather to protect it from
direct sunlight.

- Insects are easier to remove from paint that
has been freshly waxed.
- Regular waxing can prevent rust spots from
forming.
