Owner’s tool kitThe owner’s tool kit should be stored
separately from the vehicle. However,
there are two hexagon wrenches
stored under the passenger seat. (See
page 4-36.)
The service information included in this
manual and the tools provided are in-
tended to assist you in the performance
of preventive maintenance and minor
repairs. However, additional tools, such
as a torque wrench, are necessary to
perform certain maintenance work cor-
rectly.TIPIf you do not have the tools or experi- ence required for a particular job, have
a Yamaha dealer perform it for you.

TIPSkip steps 5–7 if the oil filter cartridge isnot being replaced. 5. Remove the oil filter cartridge with an oil filter wrench.TIPAn oil filter wrench is available at aYamaha dealer.
6. Apply a thin coat of clean engine oil to the O-ring of the new oil filter
cartridge.
TIPMake sure that the O-ring is properlyseated.
7. Install the new oil filter cartridge with an oil filter wrench, and then
tighten it to the specified torque
with a torque wrench. 8. Install the engine oil drain bolt and
its new gasket, and then tighten
the bolt to the specified torque.
9. Refill with the specified amount of the recommended engine oil, and
then install and tighten the oil filler
cap.

Checking the steeringWorn or loose steering bearings may
cause danger. Therefore, the operation
of the steering must be checked as fol-
lows at the intervals specified in the pe-
riodic maintenance and lubrication
chart. 1. Raise the front wheel off the ground. (See page 7-36.)

2. Hold the lower ends of the frontfork legs and try to move them for-
ward and backward. If any free
play can be felt, have a Yamaha
dealer check or repair the steering.

Checking the w heel bearingsThe front and rear wheel bearings must
be checked at the intervals specified in
the periodic maintenance and lubrica-
tion chart. If there is play in the wheel
hub or if the wheel does not turn
smoothly, have a Yamaha dealer check
the wheel bearings.

Replacing the fusesThe main fuse and ABS motor fuse are
located under the rider seat.
To access the ABS motor fuse1. Remove the passenger seat andrider seat. (See page 4-36.)
2. Remove the panel by removing the screws. 3. Remove the starter relay cover by
pulling it upward.
The fuse boxes, which contain the fus-
es for the individual circuits, are located
